I don't think it's sexist. I think it's just a preference. If it is sexist than I am sexist too because I feel exactly the same way. You have articulated why I am a het-shipper perfectly. And I am in my twenties so I don't think it is an age thing.

I've honestly never thought to compare Tracie Thoms to Fredi Walker! I guess because I like both of their voices, in that they each have different strengths they bring to the character. Their performances are different, of course, but not in a bad way.

I didn't like Sophia, and I doubt her equivalent in SO4 is going to be hot stuff either (although just from looking at Wikipedia it looks like she has more personality than Sophia, which is a plus). But going into a game intending and apparently hoping to dislike a character is still stupid, and for once it has nothing to do with sexism. Seriously, why would you try to make yourself enjoy the game less?

But just so I don't lose my horrible reputation as an evil fandom feminist, let me toss this in: we already have complaints about the obligatory healer/damsel in distress character, but not about "Edge Maverick"? Seriously?

To be honest, so far my favorite character is Lymle (another who everybody bitches about). She's freaking hilarious, though.

116: I am TOTALLY with you OP. It's my favorite movie of all time, and that scene is beyond beautiful. (I never cried when Jack died in the movie, but I cry like a baby when I see Andrews standing in the smoking room, or when you see all of the bodies in the water.)

101. I've written slash and yaoi for years and can probably count on both hands the number of flames I've gotten. It's not because my stuff wasn't popular, it's because I posted it in the right places, where people cared and less haters would be reading.

Even prostitutes that aren't upset about their lot in life/enjoy what they do (in b4 "no hooker EVER enjoys being in the sex industry, EVER, and if she thinks she does, she's just conditioned by the patriarchy to think so") would agree with that. Prostitution is kind of the antithesis of a committed relationship. But you're also dealing with fiction. And if someone wants to write fiction about it, so long as they understand it's not real life, then I really don't get the problem with it... I mean, just because someone write/enjoys reading something, you can't take that to represent their views on the real life situation.

101 Flamed just for writing slash, or for other reasons? At any rate, I sort of agree; I think who gets flamed or has wank all around them is only 25% behavior and 75% how many people pay attention to that person.

118 Well, that trope is a lot bigger than some fanfic artists. I mean, that's so embedded in the culture there's a half dozen movies other than Pretty Woman that use it. That said, I can't stand the whole rent boy slash thing, because it's sort of lame, but it lets people ratchet up the h/c. yawn.

161 ITA. I've seen Rent four times, the first time with the original cast and the second time just after DR-V left the cast and she was so awful as Mimi, seriously. That second girl who came in was tons better, and I enjoyed the show much more the second time (the rest of the cast was still there).

168 Where is your line between criticism and bashing? I know there is a lot of bashing, but in my experience there are a lot of people who don't want to hear a single word said against a creator. As for being grateful, I show my gratitude in the way that matters most—by purchasing their product. I bought a lot of books and DVDS for canons I adore, and I don't think I owe the creators more than that.
