seaQuest

I made a secret about this ages ago, but I would love a new reboot of seaQuest DSV! It has such potential as a really fun plot, even if the first go round was a bit of a mess.

My Life in Film (it stared a pre fame Andrew Scott), one season of six episodes isn't enough :( I love it.

Alcatraz - just want it long enough for answers. Firefly - same thing; Book's backstory, more info about River but I don't need 10 more seasons. I know some of that gets answered in the graphic novels and that's great but I'd rather watch it being acted out.

I'd love to see what any of the Deep Space Nine characters are up to.

Buffy spin-offs or sequels, yes please.

Legend of the Seeker or Galavant.

American Vandal

Seriously, one of the best shows to come out of Netflix and it deserved more than 2 seasons.

Anno 1790. They wrote a second season. It was going to have a werewolf in it. But it was cancelled and I'm never going to see it. *sigh*

Childless cat owners

(Anonymous) 2024-09-11 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Do any of you think certain segments of society are doubling down on shaming people who don't want heterosexual marriage with children for some... ulterior motive?

Especially women, though it's not completely limited to them.

Between J. D. Vance yapping about childless cat ladies, Harrison Butker telling a whole class of women that their marriage and children will be more important than any other accomplishments, and assloads of online comments that imply that NOT being married and having kids is the ultimate failure for a woman (along with being a single mom, of course!). And I swear people are getting more homophobic again (not that it ever went away, but I see it so often now).

Yeah this has been growing for several years now. The conservative religious right is making a lot of progress, sadly.

Though to be perfectly honest I'm not sure if the percentage of people who believe this have grown or if the people who have always believed this stuff have just gotten louder and more secure in speaking up and pushing their agenda openly in the mainstream.

I don't think there is more of it, just Trump and Republicans have emboldened people to be more open about it. Plus Covid just...broke some people's brains.

Gotta have more kids to become wage slaves to be crushed in the gears of industry to make money for the rich. Can't do that if women are all uppity and insisting on controlling their own bodies.

Re: Childless cat owners

(Anonymous) 2024-09-11 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
The ironic part is usually these are the same people crying and wringing their hands over things "for the sake of the children."

People who don't want kids should not be having kids, for the sake of the children. No child should be unwanted.

Re: Childless cat owners

I think that a lot of people are getting louder about their existing beliefs, and I think there is a process of ideological radicalization going on - in other words, things that were previously inchoate prejudices and emotional feelings have been turned into conscious ideological beliefs.

At the end of the day, these peoples' core value is for a rigidly hierarchical, caste-based society with them on the upper rungs. As social liberalism around women and LGBTQ people (in particular) has increased, they've become more and more at odds with American culture and society, and they've grown more conscious of how desperately at odds their desires are with American culture and society. And so they are more and more open at directing invective at women and minorities.

Is this really a mystery in 2024?

These fuckers want to control the breeding masses, and that gets more difficult the more we refuse to conform to their antiquated vision.

I'm pretty sure it's tied into the racist Great Replacement Theory (which is part of Leon Skum's creepy breeding fetish).

What's on your mind fellow F!Sers?

(Anonymous) 2024-09-11 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I agreed to go out to dinner and it has been pushed back and now we are not meeting til 8pm and y'all I am usually in bed reading by 8pm. I am, at heart, a little old lady that prefers early bird specials and early bedtimes and early awake times. Ugh. I know I'll have a good time, but ugh.

Question to americans

(Anonymous) 2024-09-12 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
I probably should spend less time in reddit. But I often see phrases like "it's only an 8 hour drive you can make it in one day two ways" (16 hours?!!) or "I drive every day more" etc etc. And at this point of my life more than 3 hour drive is probably an overnight stay for me. I've spent in the car whole day not once and I used trains that go for days. Etc. But it just sucks so much. So are they just being overconfident and hyperbolic or is it really normal to make a day trip with hours and hours of driving? And I am just old.
