From long experience: unfortunately, you should probably stop waiting. Also, take this as a lesson and never prepare anything for those friends again. Not saying stop being their friend, they're probably fun to hang out with when it happens to work out that way, but stop expecting them to be reliable or to be able to commit to anything of importance.

It sucks, and it sucks that people are this way. However, if you do prep anything for other friends in the future, remember the ones that DO show up, because those people generally will show up and mean it when they say they will.

OP, if I made plans with a casual acquaintance and they went out and spent money fulfilling those plans based on my expressed wish and then I flaked, I'd be fucking mortified. SO many apologies, offers of at least a partial monetary reimbursement if I couldn't follow through with my end of the bargain, and I'd make damn sure it didn't happen again short of an emergency on my part.

For a casual acquaintance. If I did this to a friend, it'd be one of those embarrassing regrets I have for the rest of my life that wakes me up at 4am.

Please. This is a good life lesson everyone should learn: figure out who your real friends are and don't spend precious resources on people who let you down like this. You don't have to cut them out of your life or hate-text them, but scale waaaaaaaay back on your involvement and investment (both monetary and emotional!) unless they can prove they're worth it. Invest in people who are there for you.

Your friends sound like shitty friends. I'm sorry Secret OP. I don't know if they're worth dropping, but I would at least tell my friends that I don't want to hear any requests or ideas for my future projects anymore because this most recent one was wasted time and money.

It took me awhile to realize that some friends aren't worthy of your creative efforts. I had a friend who I wrote fics for and they were usually the person with the least to say about the fic once I finished and posted said fics.
It felt great to get positive feedback from strangers and other friends gushing over my fic, but they were often dulled with a disappointment because the friend I'd written the fic for had a tepid reaction to the fic (if at all).

I’m not saying this is what happened… but I did have a friend who put a ton of prep into little videos to “set the scene” for a game, and no prep whatsoever into the game itself. The plot made no sense and he was not the kind of GM who could read the room and adjust when people were frustrated. The videos were great, the game sucked. We gave it a few sessions and let it fizzle.

But “old school Sesame Street music” implies there is new style Sesame Street music. I’m torn between curiosity and the certainty that I will hate it. Mostly I just think it shouldn’t have changed because of course it was perfect (she says despite not hearing it anytime in the last 45 years).

I know quite a few older people into Stray Kids, ranging from 40s to late 60s. And unlike a lot of kpop fans, they don't seem to be screamingly awful. Maybe it's something about the group, or maybe the age of the fans!
