I'm gonna go with: almost every female character ever.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-21 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
no no no that is part of the fun!! I watch top gear for:
- jokes & funny interacting from the presenters
- awesome travel scenes and crazy travel experiences
- beautiful shots of cars and driving and raving about cars

all three are equally important to me.

[identity profile] 21lights.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad she's gone too. Thrilled, actually. Cuddy and Huddy was handled horribly over the last few years and it's the reason I stopped watching. Having said that, I don't think the show is going to be good again. It's too late for that and they've made mistakes other than Huddy. The show's still going to suck IMO.

I'm a bit surprised by some of the angry reactions to this secret. The OP presumably likes the series so much that they will be upset if they can't share it with their own kids, and has written a hyperbolic secret about it: on its own, that's hardly a sign of something they ought to be hit for, to take as a sign they shouldn't ever have kids, or to mentally rewrite the secret as "my worst fear as a parent will be if the kids don't like HP..."

[identity profile] to-question.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Why not? It was a gorgeous scene that portrayed honest love.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
This. My first time was GREAT tbh. no one believes me it seems but its true. No pain, no blood, no awkwardness and i came. I was 17 so I had the benefit of age and still the benefits of being young, drunk, high sex drive and reckless -- also i had an amazing boyfriend i was in love with and who loved me back which imo (and i'm sure ppl will argue) makes a difference for a first time. It differs with everyone. I've only known one other friend who had as great a first time as me, and she was 16. Everyone else has been "s'alright" to "omg it HURTS!" to "oh god he's such an asshole!!" so just cuz it was awkward for you OP doesn't mean it is for everyone. so tl;dr It's not unrealistic for it to be good, just less common. maybe some of those fics u read ARE based on their RL experience just as you like ones based on yours. everyone is different. no two people are the same. not on fire.

also it gets better. way better. everyone i know who had mediocre to bad first times agrees.

I mean really just enjoy smut for what it is. If you're not speaking of smut than I can see where you're coming from i suppose. but smut is smut.

same anon...

Actually, I was trying to mock the other anon by coming up with something absurd. Sorry you took it seriously.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-21 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
maybe in the same way that verbally/emotionally harassing/coercing someone into sex isn't technically "forcing" them either

[identity profile] azaelers.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
It's explicitly stated in the books (by Molly, IRRC) that during the first War, people got married and had kids sooner than usual because they never knew what day would be their last.

[identity profile] stepstostars.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, yeah I can understand where the concern for genetic engineering/selection/etc. could come from, it's just that I've seen so many poorly argued "AHH, SCIENCE = BABADHORRIBLE" arguments, aggh.

Any power that can do good can also do harm, but it just seems people won't even allow research into these subjects because of that tiny possibility of the worst-case scenario shown in movies/books/etc. o__x;

Yes, the process of adoption is way more difficult than the process of making a baby (in most cases), so they probably wanted you very much.

I will also second (or eighth, or whatever it is by now) the motion to find someone to speak to about your feelings. I have lots of adopted family members, so I can say from experience that no matter how much you know "intellectually" that your parents love you, it can help a lot to talk out your feelings about the whole situation with an independent person.

A+ USE OF GIF

So many really great secrets from fandoms I am not in today...

[identity profile] joshua-glass.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe we can bribe them with chocolate to have common sense when it comes to genetic selection? XD

But yeah, I am all for curing things. Coming from someone who has maybe a handful of working organs, fixing genetic issues would be awesome. XD

(Anonymous) 2011-08-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Well, each to their own, but I gotta say that I prefered the HBP kid over the CoS guy, and not just because of the age difference. I don't think that HBP kid was creepy, just rather self-satisfied with a "wiser than his years" vibe.

The CoS guy was never charming or charismatic either. Just sort of sullen. And expositionary.

Expositionary = forced to speak a lot of explanatory dialogue in a non-convincing way.

[identity profile] johnnyabatti.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
I actually laughed so hard at this. I was thinking about this today. About an hour ago actually. And I totally could have written this secret myself.

I actually can't believe this secret is here right now. I've always hated it when people are like "omg my day = made teehee" but I totally understand it now. Jesus, this is great.

[identity profile] 21lights.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
I had the same experience with Full House. I can remember loving it when I was a kid. A few years ago when I tried to watch it, I was horrified. Was it always so cheesy and terrible? Why didn't six year old me realize this?

[identity profile] mskye.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
All you can really do is try not to be a dick. I mean, everyone acts like an asshole sometimes, but you know.

The problem is that, yes, there are people out there who will have no problem being a dick to you, even if you don't deserve it. And there are obsessive weirdos out there who hold crazy grudges and hound people for them. What you need to realize is that nobody takes these bullies seriously! They just come across as pathetic, really. If you encounter one, just hold your head up high and don't give them the satisfaction of acknowledgement.

Think of it this way. We are all nerds here. You'll find more people who will be able to relate to you then you'll find people who want to bully you (if you attract any bullies at all!). Just don't take yourself too seriously and you'll be fiiiiine.

[identity profile] johnnyabatti.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. Fuck that Usagisalami bullshit. I'm actually mad at people who call her that. I feel like they think they're better because they're used to calling her by her "true name". Motherfuckers.

[identity profile] hikari87.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
Can safely say you've never commented on any of mine, but that's a pretty lulzy MO

Re: op

[identity profile] time-ambassador.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
"A vagina does not a woman make."

MTE. I'm sure Buck Angel can attest to that fact, too.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-21 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Cool story bro.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-21 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
yes

it is totally unreasonable for somebody to worry that they won't be able to share things they enjoy and are important to them with their children

they totally said that their kids liking harry potter was the most IMPORTANT THING EVER to them

[identity profile] johnnyabatti.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad someone said it.

[identity profile] johnnyabatti.livejournal.com 2011-08-21 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't that how it's pronounced lmao
