That's nice to hear. I find Aussie media really white too if I'm watching Channel Nine, but there are Aussie programs on SBS that aren't, and I know Home and Away had some token characters chucked in there, which isn't ideal but it's a step.

As someone who has lived here all their life I find that with our history with Aboriginal people is like - we're either really bloody embarrased OR we have our head in the sand about it and are quite defensive when questioned on the subject.

The refugee situation - I - yeah =( and =/ I can't believe how backwards some people think especially after I moved from Labor-supported Canberra to Liberal-supported Perth.

I agree with you, some people do find it very hard/don't have the time to lose weight, but for others it is a result of laziness and overeating. I gained weight that way, and I'm trying to lose it now.

It is possible to buy cheap healthy food. As long as there are more calories/fat going out than going in, you don't need to exercise at all.

YANA :(

Oh, I see. That makes more sense.

I'm Australian too and this hasn't really been my experience, though. I have heard of this kind of thing happening, but perhaps I'm watching different tv channels or circulating in different communities to you or perhaps I'm just naive but your comment sounds kinda exaggerated.

Mind you, I watch the Chaser and they do make fun of Austalian idiots being idiotic in the way you described, so, idk, we're not all like that I guess?

Skinny =/= Healthy.

A common misconception, I don't blame you.

Has it also got something to do with the Hallyu wave been very consumer-based and about 1000% more expensive in JP than SK?

I love Tohoshinki but bloody hell, the difference in price between their Korean album and Japanese album is startling. Mind you, it may have more to do with how the profits are distributed.

But dressing up and play acting is half the fun~~~!

Actually I think the word 'muggle' might be leaking into main media as a kind of joke word. I heard it the other day - where? - was it family guy or american dad or...?

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Psh, don't pity him. He saw it as a vehicle to push his name out there and he did a LOT of indie movies in the meanwhile to get actor's cred, all in order to get meatier acting parts like Like Water for Elephants. He did not go in completely blind.

That said, he don't deserve the cray-cray fans though.

I've lived in both countries. Can I think rejoicing over an earthquake that killed thousnads of people is wrong now?

you've never been in the T&B threads right after a new episode airs, then.

But there is plot, tho? Perhaps everyone forgot that Cain has been asked by the Fighter commander to perform a secret mission and he was succesful - and we don't know what that is yet. Meanwhile Abel has daddy issues and furthermore volunteered to go on a deathly mission into enemy territory - at this point he hasn't told Cain yet - how will Cain react? Since Cain likes the thrill of battle perhaps his and Abel's bond with be strengthened once they get back into flight. Also, the Navigator commander seemed keen - far too keen - knowing that Abel had chosen to go to the front lines. There's also two other characters who are vying for the leads' attentions, one of which can't talk properly and is socially awkward and the other whose life had been saved by Abel, so he feel indepted and perhaps a little bit in love.

But actually, I read this comic for the porn. I think I've reread the first sex scene 10874237937 times. Why complain when there's a comic out there with detailed porn and detailed characters?

Yep as an IT person sitting on the laptop all day only helps those thighs get meatier.

But honestly, 1 hour exercise a day three times a week + healthy diet is all it took for all my weight to drop off. I know when I was fat doing exercise seemed like the hardest thing is the world but now that I'm healthy I can't help but think, 'this is easy, why did I never do it before?'.

Jesus Christ, her hair is disgusting.

I think you missed the bit before that where they said they caused drama.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
No, they can adopt a White POV of other races. But can they actually be racist? No, they don't have any real privilege that comes with being racist. They might have the 'model minority' privilege but like passing privilege, it's not real and is only used more to discredit other minorities by White people than anything. They can be prejudiced though.

Most native Japanese most likely never met a Black person in their lives, if they do, it's rarely more than a minor encounter. So where is their usual exposure of Black people? Through media. And when media rarely portray your race outside of harmful stereotypes, people are going to think that's how all Black people act. Hell, if they met and befriend a Black person, they will still think that what the media shows is true and you are just an anomaly. Fuck, some of my friends who are Asian-Americans who live in NYC think this bullshit, it's no surprise Asians outside of America act the way they do.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't recall saying that skinny = healthy. What I said was meant more along the lines of morbid obesity =/= healthy. People with BMI's between 19-29 are generally healthier than those with BMI's greater than 31 (less risks).

And I understand the underprivileged argument. I really do. I came from a poor family who cooked unhealthy shit everyday. Ended up having a BMI of 33 by age 21. It was hard but I'm down to a 26 right now (2ish years later) and loving it. My regime wasn't even that special or intense. It wasn't the first time I tried losing the weight either. I just woke up earlier, ate healthier well portioned meals 3-4 times a day, and went biking whenever I had the time (morning or afternoon).

I mean fuck it it's your body. If you wanna keep sitting on your ass, eating, and being depressed about your weight but not doing anything about it (like I was) then go ahead. Hf having a heart attack before the age of 30 thanks to the f.a.m. and pseudoscience.

um, we are two different anons, but I like the other anon !!

*hugs other anon, unless you're not OK with it*

do you mean to suggest that we should for some reason tolerate on the internet what we wouldn't tolerate in real life? awfulness on the internet is just as bad as awfulness in real life.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
no, it's okay! the troll looks pretty happy, and, um, maybe I'll get through to xir?

I doubt that many people hate Brienne as a character, they just hate her as a POV character because they find her chapters unbearably boring. So it's less "I hate Brienne because she did this or that" than "GODS NO I DON'T WANT TO READ ANOTHER THIRTY PAGES OF NOTHING HAPPENING!" ;) So in this case I think it's less people hating a female character than people just disagreeing on which chapters are interesting and which aren't.
