You must be new to the fandom. Everyone hated Jo and Anna and Ruby until they were killed off and no longer a threat.

Exactly what I was coming here to say. They hated on Jo so badly that she ended up getting written out of the show. And now they're patting themselves on the back for liking the characters acting like they aren't a bunch of misogynistic assholes. It's really disgusting.

Which is why I am glad I am very, very late to fandom because now I can enjoy them all I want while everyone else has (mostly) moved on... Because I really don't understand that sentiment. :P

Mostly yes. Not literally everyone, though. The girls did have fans. I got into the fandom late, but I loved Jo from the beginning, loved Ruby as a character (and straight up loved her until she turned evil), and liked Anna (and thought what they did to her was horribly OOC).

I'm not even sure that a majority of fans like that. Certainly the loudest. But it is hard to know for the fans who aren't actually in the fandom.

From what we have seen of her I can tell ya'll right now that she's boring and completely disinterests me. Just shut up with the whole 'you don't this female character so you must be misogynistic to some extent' bullcrap.

I haven't watched the show since the season 5 finale but this doesn't surprise me one bit. Almost any new female character the show introduced (back when I watched it) who wasn't already dead (Mary, Jessica) was automatically hated by a chunk of the fandom. (Note that I said 'almost any' and 'chunk'. I'm trying to give people credit here. And I won't speak to what's happened in the last 2 seasons, as I haven't watched them or seen the fandom reaction outside of my flist.)

But I love how the fandom 'loves' all those women now that they're dead. When I actually tried to take part in the fandom during seasons 4 and 5, all I ever heard was how horrible/awful/gross Ruby 2.0 and Anna were and how everyone wished they'd just die already. I don't think EVERYONE in the fandom felt that way but a HUGE number of the VOCAL fans were calling for their deaths and it cracks me up that fandom now supposedly 'loved' them.

Jo always seemed to have her fair share of fans and haters, though the number of her fans seemed to increase after her death. I think Ellen was the one 'not dead since the pilot' exception? I don't really remember anyone out-and-out hating on her the way I'd seen with the others.

Also note: I realize there is a small but devoted section of female character/femslash fans who have always supported these ladies. But as this section always seemed incredibly small, I'm not sure how they fit into the fandom majority or if their opinions were/are ever heard.

The only female character I actively disliked was Ruby 2.0, but that's because I didn't like the actress. That said, the more I hear about SPN fandom, the more I'm glad I just watch the show.

All the comments I've seen have been people wondering where she went, if she knows that Emanuel isn't her husband amnesiac anymore, if she knows where he is and visits anyway, etc.

How have you managed to miss that half the fandom jumps on anything that could possibly endanger anything to do with the twue wuve between their ship that's never going to happen? It happened with Jo, Ruby, Anna and it'll happen with Daphne. Fuck, the only reason it didn't happen with Madison was because she was killed in the same episode.

Okay - Daphne had, like, 2 minutes of screen time. I really don't see why anyone would hate her based on just that. That being said, yes, she was married to Cas, and I can see how that would cause some fans to dislike her...but that's not really her, because we know ZERO about her.

I started watching the show in S6 (and marathoned the earlier seasons) and liked most of the females on the show. I loved Jo, right from the start, and was beyond sad when she was killed off (something I had no idea was coming). I LOVED Bela. Yeah, she acted pretty shitty towards the guys, but she was snarky and badass and I kind of loved that. I mean, she wasn't really a good person, but I thought she made a great character.

I really liked S3 Ruby, and was willing to give S4 Ruby a chance until it was revealed that, in fact, she'd screwed over Sam and kind of the whole world. Honestly, if fans hated her just for that reason, it would be one thing. I have a feeling it's much more than that, though.

Female characters in SPN is just a topic that it's so hard to say anything about. Are they just crappily written? Are they killed/written off because fans hate them? Do fans hate them because they're crappy or because the fans are misogynistic and crazy? NO IDEA. Personally for the most part I like them well enough, but I wish they weren't all DEAD right now. And I do think some fans have misogynistic attitudes, but it's certainly not everyone, and I hate that stereotype of the fandom.

I... didn't actually see any hate for her? Well I'm sure there was somewhere but y'know (though if you wanna go for the misogyny angle, I saw a lot of Sera Gamble hate). Like, even coming from the Cas-loving side of the fandom, the worst I saw was outrage at him being married. Which uh, I think was quite justified, considering how utterly bizarre it is.

Seriously, if she doesn't turn out to be like, a leviathan or an angel or something, idek show, what the fuck are you on. The worst part is that considering season 7? I bet she's just a 'normal' human.

Girl goes hiking at a reservoir, finds a wet naked guy (then again if he looked like that maybe I'd put a ring on it too) who can't remember anything, takes him home rather than go to a hospital or the police, and marries him few months later? And no one comments on how weird this is? And then no one thinks to tell the poor woman, oh by the way your husband's been committed.

My love letter to the Supernatural Fandom: Without a doubt, I realize that the SPN fandom has some members who are fucked up. But, in the long run, I am going to go on the record and say that I think IT WAS ALL WORHT IT!! Fuck it, I don't even care! Yes, some of the man-nips and the fics scare the shit out of me. But on the other hand, some of the fiction is AMAZING. I'm going to ask, because I honestly don't know: Has there EVER been a fandom that has been recognized so much on screen by the actual show? I can't help it, I *adore* the meta stuff! Again, I realize that some of the episodes that reference fandom have been problematic (turning Becky in to a potential mystical roofie-rapist in season 7, anyone? YUCK), but c'mon, most of the meta episodes have been AWESOME! The Monster at the End of the Book? That shit was amazing y'all!

I get pissed off because all of the female characters die too, but c'mon, EVERYONE dies! This is totally a TV trope – no one can be happy until the last episode, or it's not good TV!!! (Or some bullshit like that). I ship 1) Dean / Faith the Vampire Slayer (yep that makes no sense but that's my OTP) 2) Dean / Castiel (and, like #1 that's never gonna be cannon, so) and # 3 Dean / Jo , why did she have to die??? She really would have been perfect for him! I actually kind of liked Lisa, but at the end of the day what did they have in common? I feel bad for wanting the bland Shakespeare romantic comedy ending where everyone is paired off, but as the series is ending, and I know Dean wants a family, I wish he had someone kick-ass like Jo to “settle down” with, where it would be settling, but not really...

As for Sam, I was always so mad that they had to have Ruby end up bad. Why couldn't a demon seek redemption?? I wanted her to be good, but that didn't happen, and I was really dissapointed that the show was going to cut out the female character AGAIN. Although, I began to care less with Ruby V2. Genevive is gorgeous, and their (Jared+ Genevive's) kids are gonna be gorgeous, but imho she wasn't a great actress. I mean it's hard to pick up a character from another actress, but it almost seemed like she didn't even try to study what the original actress (whom I liked) did and keep a constant thread...

So yeah, SPN fandom has some... issues. But it's HUGE. How is it NOT going to have some ups and downs? I take the ups with the downs. Seven seasons in, I can still say I'm enjoying the show. How many shows can you say that about? And I can find awesome fic anytime I want. Hell yeah, THANK YOU SUPERNATURAL FANDOM!

I'm not in the SPN fandom and I'm not even hardcore into the show, but I enjoyed it more or less. Watched the first five seasons. But I don't like the female characters, with the exception of Ellen. Here's why - I find them bland and boring. Jo? A pretty blonde face with a character that felt as though the writers were trying to stuff her with awesome, and it didn't feel genuine (though yeah, I bawled when she died.) Ruby? I liked her first actress all right, but loathed her second actress - found her to be really awkward when she was supposedly badass. Bela, um, was just a walking stereotype of a cat burglar. The only thing I liked about her character was the fact that she died - I don't mean that badly, just in that it was the only thing in her story that grabbed at me as real and raw. None of the female characters, besides Ellen, struck me as real people. more like models fresh off the catwalk dropped into scenes of being super heroines, or taking erotic baths...

But here's the thing. I don't like any of the characters, men included, besides Sam and Dean, and I watched it pretty much for them alone. Furthermore, I don't think the writing is honestly good enough to carry most of the characters it tries to introduce. sorry. I found it really annoying when other characters were tried to be introduced as regular cast members because generally they were just so bland, and I liked the focus of the brothers.

Dunno what you're talking about, frankly. As a character, she was kind of pointless and puzzling but i haven't seen one iota of 'hate'.

And - everyone in fandom did not/does not hate on the women of Show. The haters are just the loudest and most obnoxious.
