Maybe my standarts are too high.

Re: About the het vs. slash vs. femmeslash vs. gen thing

For me it's about time. Guy on guy slash is my preferred genre, and if given the choice between all of them with just half an hour to read a fic in, I'm going to choose my preference obvs. It doesn't mean I'm unwilling to read others, just that I have preferences and and a non-infinite amount of time.

Go anon!

But.... that sounds pretty feminist? The fact that you want the female character as an awesome character rather than just a fanservicy character?

Also a bit unrelated but I didn't know you could play as a female character. This pique my interest in the game.

Prentiss ♥♥ Good for you!

I'm not feminist or anything

Every time I see that sentiment I die a little inside.

Not really. It's more like a religious person blinking and going "I believe in God. What are you doing calling me a Christian and saying I share all of your beliefs?"

And the "not calling yourself gay" rather makes my point for me. When trying to reach as many people as possible (say, to give health information to any who might need it) people tend to use the term "men who have sex with men." Precisely because some people have what you or I might call "gay sex", but for whatever reason don't identify with the label.

So thanks for making my point for me, anon. Totally agree that words have meanings -- and totally tired of people making "feminist" mean everything!

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
didn't you know? feminist is a bad word.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Jared isn't nearly as bulked up as he was in season two. I definitely agree about the sideburns, oh my god. As for Jensen, I don't think it's fear of saying the wrong thing, I think it's an intense need for privacy - I have no idea why, but it seems so strong that it makes me think there is a specific reason or event that caused it. I agree that we definitely don't know the real guy behind the actor. Then again, I think Jared is too far on the other side of the coin. He definitely overshares.

Having said that, I love these two guys as if they were my own brothers. I have no idea why they caught me so strongly, but there you go.

Ungoogleable names are really tough! I write up mini profiles/reviews of all the Jpop groups who come to this one festival (Tokyo Idol Festival) and some of the group names are really hard. One group is just named fine. Another group is named choice? (question mark included in the name).

My theory is that they do it to piss off music commenters/bloggers ;)

Family dinner for me :( But Yaaaay Canada day! (there are cup cakes).

Regarding 2 - that's where I'm at now - though technically that's only because I'm mostly skimming over the sex because sex does nothing for me. But yes, if the plot is a good one (and the characters are mostly in-character) I will read pretty much anything. There just needs to be a larger amount of plot than sex.

I don't think it's that she's a woman, I think it's that she's a very famous figure in the feminist movement. If somebody's disappointed with a big figure in their movement, they're probably going to feel like they're not a good whatevermovementist. I don't think her gender has much to do with OP's concerns, besides in how it relates to what Gloria's doing politically and what OP believes in.

I'm glad you figured that out and looked into why you were doing that! Not a lot of people in fandom do that, so it's good that you did what you did.

And Pepper and Natasha are amazing <3

I'm planning on marathoning Leverage this summer, so maybe my opinion will change after I watch it, but I think he's kind of ugly. The actors playing Hardison and Parker are more attractive to me.

I think the fighting is stupid, but everyone has their preferences and there's nothing wrong with that. I'll read fic as long as it's good too, but sometimes I'm in the mood for a specific type of fic, and will go looking for, say, lesbian sexytimes only.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
If a person doesn't like homophobes, they still might not be gay/LGBT/insert-other-label right activists. That's what the term feminist reminds me of, by the way. There are many reasons why some people may choose to call themselves feminists, but I usually find that it's because they're actively working on creating equal rights for women.

I'm female and I believe in equal rights, but I don't call myself a feminist. I'm thinking equalist might be a good term except it was coined by villains first.

It was, even with the unclear reasoning/indeterminate time period between Noatok's running away and the Equalist movement.

I like "manly" things, why can't guy like "girly" things?

(Anonymous) 2012-07-01 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with breaking social norms. I remember reading the author pages of Fruits Basket and Kare Kano where the author talked about the male fans who sent letters detailing how embarressed they were buying the books. They are great stories so it makes me sad that (mostly) guys pressure each other about things like this. You are not alone in your feelings and you are no less masculine for liking things that have a largely female audience.

The pretty decent sized fandom I've seen (at least through my sister, who ships them like crazy) seems to indicate you're not alone. :)

I find it strange that you claim to be into old Marvel comics, then go on to list all these things about Peter you dislike -- stuff that I really don't think are applicable to older Spider-Man comics. Horrible teamplayer? I seem to recall him working just fine with Daredevil (yes, he threw a fit that one time, but I think we can cut him some slack due to the fact he'd just been blinded), Wolverine, Black Cat, etc. And let's not forget everyone he worked with during both Secret Wars! Rude? Not that I can particularly remember, aside from times when he was under extreme pressure. Interrupting funerals? I have absolutely no idea what this is a reference to, but I'd love to know!

All that said, it's not like I particularly love Peter. No, the one I loved was Ben. Quit reading Spider-Man comics the day they killed him off, despite having been following it since the very start.
