Hey guys, I'm looking all over for a place to download two music albums -- "Kinetic Voyage" and "Ain't That Just the Way" by Barbi Benton. I would simply buy them but they were never released on CD, just vinyl... I've tried googling, torrents, DC++, and so on.

I'll be grateful even if it's just a couple of songs (already have the title track from the latter though)!

So I have the cold from hell and I can't concentrate on my work for uni, which is why I've been re-watching The Big Bang Theory (don't judge). And all of a sudden I have this thought that hey, I don't know why I didn't notice before, but I know where all the Sheldon/Penny shippers come from, and now I'm reading anything Sheldon/Penny on AO3! Some of it is sugary sweet romance stuff, and terribly OOC, but some is actually really good and WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME?

Haha. I literally could not have been more wrong in my predications.

They set up the friend to have a selfless (well, mostly selfless) wish as a possibility, whilst leaving Madoka with the trivial wish and the straight forward desire to becoming a magical girl, and be special. A plot arc that in no way comments upon the audience, I'm sure.

When blondie bound Senjougahara I thought this is going to go badly, there is no way this hubris is not going to bite you in the ass, and the minute she started crying with joy I knew she was fucked. Still, whilst it's a solid twist, it's not unique to kill off a seemingly central character to demonstrate that shit is about to get real - and I'm interested to see how it plunges new depths in heartbreaking as has been suggested to me, or meets its 'need to watch' label.

I'll be interested to see whether they have Madoka and her friend eventually decide go back to pursuing a goal of being magical girls (well rather her friend does it for the boy, because he becomes sicker/she has some touching scenes of how much he hates his condition and Madoka tags along still idealising the role) or Kyubey keeps trying to force them into it, until they have to relent.

The former seems like it would resonate more effectively later on, but the latter has this cat being a massive dick, and despite doing very little so far I am loving that element that they are managing to get across of him (her? it?).

How do you guys feel about the butt-monkey trope?

The butt-monkey trope (you can find it on TVTropes but DON'T click any of the links or you'll be there forever), is basically when a character suffers constant injuries, misfortunes, and embarrassments over and over again. It's different from the woobie because while the the things that happen to woobies are supposed to be sad and painful, the things that happen to butt-monkeys are supposed to be funny, although they can still be sympathy-inducing.

However, I know some people who rage over their favorite character being given the butt-monkey treatment and it sometimes being perceived as being insensitive to a character's pain or meant to insult and mock a character, so what do you think, F!S?

Anon who was interested in the HP story involving the memory modification of the Dursley's coming off for some with the end result was worse abuse, the fic is called "Nightmares of Futures Past", and it's a supremely YMMV fic about Harry time travel traveling. It was started before the seventh book came out, so there's extremely!badguy!Snape, who regularly mind rapes his students, along with actual sociopath ala Hot Fuzz Dumbledore.

If you can get past that, though, IMO, it's not that bad. A bit weird, but not bad, though IMO the abuse can get over the top at times.

Comics question!

My partner is looking to get into comics (DC and Marvel; I think the Avengers and X-Men are what he's looking at in particular) and has no idea where to start. I know the New 52 exists in part to help introduce new people w/o subjecting to huge amounts of backstory, but I've also heard a lot of problematic things about them, along with that the writing on many of the comics is OOC and sucktastic. Are any of them worth following?

Looking for new fandoms

At this point, I'm not even reading fanfiction because I ship stuff anymore, I'm just reading it for my boy-on-boy romantic fix. The only character I even remotely care about in any of my fandoms anymore is Gabriel from Supernatural. And yeah, I'm having a lot of fun looking up gen fic for him right now.

I want to get into a new fandom so badly. Is Elementary any good and if yes, what about it do you commend?

And what is Homestuck about and should I get into it?

Any fantasy book series you'd recommend?

It's like this crazy fucking mashup of Thief, Deus Ex, Bioshock and Half-Life 2. I regret not buying a physical copy because I want to stick it in my pants.
