katiemariie: Screencap of Stark in his cell in the Gammak base, pointing manically. The text, "my side your side" surrounds him. (My side your side!)

Farscape fandom has the same problem. The canon is full of kinky alien sex, but 90% of the fanworks are the two straight human(ish) leads kissing and cuddling. Like, the show has a dude with tentacles, a plant woman who orgasms from strong exposure to light, her boyfriend who just so happens to made up of light, and a villain who wears a gimp suit 24/7 and is occasionally led around on a leash. I don't know what went wrong.

I don't mind most of the outfits, but I want to know who the hell approved Noe. Not just Noe's clothes, but Noe in general.

Yes, that is a more plausible scenario.

However, you mentioned the surrogate. Maybe the writer likes the idea of the parents being able to just have the kid without needing to get a third person involved. Or complicated medical processes and technology, for that matter. Fictional straight couples can just fuck and boom, she's pregnant; maybe people like the idea of fictional gay and/or lesbian couples being able to do the same thing.

Ugh, dmw didn't notice the word "least". So much for the powers of observation.

Poirot, season 11? IDK what it was - just bleak. Especially The Mystery of the Blue Train. I loved it as a book, but the screen version was one of the dullest Poirot episodes.

there were a few such fics in the Kim Possible fandom (where Shego/Kim was more or less tied with Ron/Kim for most popular pairing), if you'd be interested.

I'm sure there were some in fanfiction.net and maybe also in adultfanfiction.net

Throw it all out the window and do what feels right and isn't hurting anybody else /shrug

I didn't know they were doing another one. That's awesome!! Love this app!

Season 8 of That '70s Show. I think I hated every second of that season. It was just such a mess. Donna and Randy, Randy, Fez and Jackie, the prostitute, the overuse of Leo, barely any Kelso, no Eric...just...ugh.

I guess Season 6 of Doctor Who. Just a complete and total butchering of everything that I absolutely adored about Season 5, my favorite season. River's character, Amy and Rory's romance, hammering again and again the exact same themes and lessons of Season 5.

do you have dogs you loved like family members? that seems to be what does it

(same with the one with fry's brother; if you have siblings it increases the chance of it hitting a nerve)

Nope, when I'm not on the pill my cycle completely reverses.... by that I mean I will bleed horribly, and suffer anemia and terrible cramps for over three weeks out of four, have about 4 or 5 days where life it tolerable and then it all goes to hell again.

Epilogues in fiction

(Anonymous) 2013-03-10 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Does anyone else really hate them? Especially the misty-eyed "LOOK AT HOW HAPPY EVERYONE IS [X AMOUNT OF TIME] LATER" ones, ugh.

This is really sad. I'm sorry someone said that and I'm sorry you feel unlikable and neglected. I'm not going to give you unsolicited advice so here's this:

(Anonymous) 2013-03-10 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Cranky Doctor is very cranky!

But yeah, I just took a Doctor Who community off my friends list because I was getting tired of the complaints about River about Angels in Manhattan about the 11th Doctor's behavior in episodes and whatever else! The thing is I don't even disagree with half the complaints (or when I do it's not to the same degree) I'm just really fucking tired of hearing it. Whatever I'm focusing on the Classic serials anyway for now just to get some peace.

It depends on how you look at it. I've seen some speculation in fandom that Aya hasn't actually fed on inhabited planets - every time she's accused of mass-murder, she deflects with "you have no conception of what I'm doing mortal blah blah blah". It's possible she stayed true to her statement that going planet-by-planet was too inefficient and she focused on feeding off uninhabited worlds until she found a way to end life in the universe in one fell swoop. Which she has.

If so, if she can be stopped from ending the universe, the worst follow-through to her name is what happened on the Star Sapphire world.

Even if that's not precisely the case, I find it suspicious how utterly irredeemable Aya is being painted as. This show is good with misdirection, as we learned in the first episodes with Razer.

It depends. Sometimes they feel like tacked on bullshit, and sometimes it's just the thing needed for the story to feel complete.

I don't hate them. I think they provide closure. I really didn't hate Harry Potter's epilogue at all, although I think the book would have been stronger without it. I guess it was more for Rowling's sake, than ours. So people would leave her alone about where they ended up. So she could canonize what she wanted to happen to these characters.

But I do tend to find them a bit trite. The Hunger Games' epilogue felt kind of distasteful to me.

[personal profile] intrigueing 2013-03-10 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, liking realistic fic and not liking unrealistic fic is totally fine, and realistic fics can be really amazing when done thoroughly, but that doesn't mean it's OOC to ask for a level of suspension-of-disbelief that doesn't go beyond the level of suspension of disbelief the canon material already requires. Honestly, you're...just not gonna find much sympathy if you bother shippers (of any pairing in any fandom) with this kind of stuff. It's not that they don't acknowledge it or see it, it's that they're not interested in it and will probably feel rather insulted by someone questioning them about it as if it's really never occurred to them. Just a heads up.

I still find the non-homestuck discussions hilarious myself.

[personal profile] sugar_spun 2013-03-10 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, every time I find places like that, they just go overboard with the ridicule, and they start making fun of legitimate issues and just start conflating SJWs with feminists in general or anyone who supports civil causes.

Re: Epilogues in fiction

(Anonymous) 2013-03-10 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
It depends. It's nice to have a well-rounded ending. But sometimes it's just... too much, it pulls the story, stretches it too thin. See: Mockingjay.

I sometimes look at the IM convos I have with my partner about WoW and realize what gibberish it must look like to outsiders.

But it's sort of hard for me to really be baffled by fandoms? Like, I'm used to it, so I understand that other fandoms have lingo and jargon that I'm not familiar with, and I happily chalk it up to that and go about my business. I can see something and be like, "I don't understand this," and move on. It's not like some great mystery to me, and I don't feel any need to figure out what people are talking about, especially when I'm wholly unfamiliar with the subject content. I guess this makes me weird? idk

Re: Green Lantern (Spoilers!)

(Anonymous) 2013-03-10 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe. Razer said she has murdered millions of people-seems a little weird of him to say that if he wasn't sure.
