I think she's a horrible writer, and plagiarism sucks. That being said, the reactions to her are so extreme compared to the things that she did that I've started having the urge to defend her. And I don't want that urge. But the rabid hate is getting old. I've yet to see evidence that she plagiarized in her published works, and even so plagiarism while a bad thing isn't something that deserves quite this level of hate.

I can see that. Although . . . among the people I've met who only wanted to write because of some fantasy of being A Writer were some of the most prolific writers I've come across.

It's just that they were prolific but horrible.

I suspect that there are a lot of people who really aren't writers who actually do produce a lot specifically because they don't have any kind of internal quality-control.

None of them could take criticism or improve, though.

So, awful teacher's assistant situation here. Three weeks, still awful (also I my pay is about $200 less than I expected).

BUT I was offered a job my a family member. I would be earning $600 more with MORE hours and like 100% less stress. But, they want me to start on the 14th. So if I give my notice tomorrow, it will only be a week notice.

I would also feel bad because the teacher is leaving for one or two months because of surgery and I would be leaving them like 5 days before he leaves. But I despise this job and honestly, have no control over the classroom.

Should I take this new job (which i will enjoy much better) and leave the teaching job in a lurch? And it one week's notice okay?

I think you misread what anon said. Her HP fanfics were full of punchlines, and sometimes entire paragraphs & even one several-page sequence, lifted from other works. She gave very few, very vague citations for this hot mess. She then based her original works off these non-original fanfics.

I don't think they can hit them with lawsuits. Fines maybe, and repercussions (like not allowing them to sell Nintendo stuff), but only if they can actually verify that the store broke street date. I imagine it's not that easy, either - here in Canada, independent/mom and pop stores do it way more often than, say, ann EB Games would.

The simultaneous release isn't even the problem - why do stores have the games over two weeks early? No wonder some stores broke street date...

I agree with everyone who's saying "go read the transcripts," but if you really want some way to not zone out on the actual podcast, have you tried listening while doing something else? I get super bored with most audio unless I'm either driving or doing a sudoku or actively eating dinner or something else low-brainpower. Paradoxially, it actually helps me focus more on the podcast than when I'm just sitting there listening.

Agreed. She seems pretty damn slimy, but ultimately she's far from the worst thing ever. If your view of fiction has been RUINED 4EVER!! by a scummy plagiarist being a scummy plagiarist, you're what is properly called oversensitive.
