What non-canon slash pairings do you think are almost-canon?

(Anonymous) 2014-03-10 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Are there two same-gendered characters in a story that you feel are obviously gay, even without wearing slash goggles, but it's never confirmed? Not necessarily your ships, you just feel like there is no way the creator was oblivious to this pairing.

I'll start

Quatre/Trowa from Gundam Wing. No female love interests, weird close relationship and... Quatre being so... gay. Pretty sure there was a scene where Quatre pictures Trowa when thinking of people he cares about most.

Like a lot of fans, I genuinely think that Princess Bubblegum and Mareceline are ex-girlfriends

Light and L from Death Note. I had trouble seeing Light as anything but gay, and the majority of the plot is them having brain!sex. Plus there's some weird little hints here and there (notably no cameras are in the bedroom that Light and L share during the handcuff arc) and Misa even, in canon, suggests L is gay for Light. And there's no denial. I don't know, they are probably the gayest non-canon pairing that I could imagine.

Fang and Vanille from Final Fantasy XIII just can't be... not lesbians. Though I ship Fang and Lightning more, Fang and Vanille are just canon in my head.

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club.

and yes, it's on purpose. :P

Kakashi and Gai.

Even with how Kakashi acts like Gai's a bother or ignores him, they act like an old married couple. I wouldn't be suprised if they were in a relationshop together.

I don't ship it personally but Fushimi/Yata from K.

-spoilers, I guess- The reason Fushimi quit being part of the Red Clan was because he got all jealous about how much Yata admired Mikoto and he's pretty clearly obsessed with him. Given the creators' bent, I assume his fixation is romantic.

The only ones I can think of were actually semi-confirmed. Nevermind, I thought of a bunch more as I was writing this.

Chad and Ryan from High School Musical. They sang about "showing you how I swing" and then they switched clothes. Semi-confirmed because I do believe Lucas Grabeel was playing Ryan as gay, and in the stage adaptation the director made it canon by showing pictures of guys in Ryan's locker.

Julian and Garak in DS9. Because the actors were playing it that way but the writers/network/whatever put a stop to that. And then gave Julian a really, really close bromance with Miles. And I'm sure they knew what that looked like, considering Miles even said on a couple of occasions he wished his wife was more like Julian. And Star Trek pretty much invented slash, so. Yeah.

Also I'm pretty sure the actress who played Romulan Senator lady was playing her as having a crush on Kira. In any case they had mad chemistry.

Marceline and Bubblegum, yes, pretty sure that's endorsed by people who work on the show/comics.

Glinda and Elphaba although the author of the book is gay, and I'm pretty sure he has said that it was there. As for the musical, I think Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth both said if things had gone differently, they would have been together.

Jet was in love with Zuko, you cannot convince me otherwise.

Gimli and Legolas totally married.

Pintel and Ragetti from Pirates of the Caribbean. Captain Jack Sparrow and Cutler Beckett were totes exes.

In Harvest Moon 64, I was always pretty sure that Rick (the hardware store guy) was gay, from the way he would act when you showed him the blue feather, and the fact that he never settled down. And then you have Cliff, obviously unhappy in his marriage with Anne. I kinda always figured he was really in love with Rick (who happens to be Anne's cousin, iirc.) Yes, they probably had a secret thing.

As Told By Ginger. Miranda wants Courtney all to herself, Courtney is in love with Ginger, who might not be straight, but is oblivious to Courtney's feelings. Carl is gay. Blake is also gay. Macie is gay and eventually she and Courtney get married and go to France together. But now I am getting too much into my own shipping preferences. Courtney being in love with Ginger was definitely intentional on someone's part.

eta: Both Johanna and Madge from The Hunger Games. They just pinged me. Shame they never met.

HG Wells and Myka Bering from Warehouse 13. From what I've read, the actresses decided to play it like they're in love and it shows.

Doctor/Master. It was canon for a little bit there with Scream of the Shalka before New Who came along. And I mean even in New Who I have trouble seeing their interactions as platonic.

Merlin & Arthur. They were never canon but they really could have been with the way they were written.

Before Resident Evil 6? I had all my money on Chris/Wesker, with it being a one-sided lust on Wesker's part.

I always got that impression from House and Wilson.

Has no one said Tiger and Bunny yet?! Not canon. But soooo implied. When Tiger's in Barnaby's arms, almost dead, pretty sure he says something like "You have long eyelashes" or something.

Nothing will ever convince me that Richard from Tales of Graces is NOT gay and in love with Asbel. I mean, not only is he the only male party member who doesn't have a canon love interest and shows no interest in women in general, there's all of the "that's what I love about him" and the "my dear Asbel" and the "please keep him safe" and the face-touching and the fact that the trigger for him going full yandere is Asbel disagreeing with his actions.

And then I read the novels (written by the same writer who wrote the game script) and they crank it up to eleven. Add in that he also specifically came out and debunked Pascal being interested in girls that way but never said a word about Richard and you can't tell me that he didn't do it on purpose.

Since somebody posted the Ban & Ginji picture somewheres in here-

Ban/Ginji and Kazuki/Juubei from GetBackers. In the anime at least, they were platonic life partners at the very least.

Big fat spoiler

Mr. White and Mr. Orange from Reservoir Dogs. I wasn't even trying to ship people in this movie, but it still takes more mental gymnastics for me to not see those two as having a secret relationship off-screen.

Well, think Napoleon/Illya totally had a thing for each other. The constant grooming (hair, suit adjustments...) flirtatious banter, jealousy ... yes. Though rather than say they were both gay, I'd say Napoleon was about a 2 on the Kinsey scale, while Illya was more of a 5. (Yes, I know, stupid scale, but it was the 60s!)

Tokito and Kubota from Wild Adapter. They are pretty much canon without ever stating so explicitly. I'm also very sure that's on purpose.

Heine and Badou from DOGS as well.
