But what I like about omega-verse fic isn't pregnancy (well, not primarily), and lubricating anuses not really at all. What I like about omega-verse fic is heat and knotting, and then pregnancy to a much lesser extent. Which is why I read het omega-verse fic when I can find any.

It's almost the same for me.

I love the worldbuilding possibilities and some other aspects of omegaverse, but I hate mpreg and don't really like knotting so I can never find some omegaverse fic I really enjoy and as much as I want to write something, I'm pretty sure removing knotting and mpreg will end in no one reading it or in many complains for false omegaverse.

Honestly, the self-lubricating thing is too much for my suspension of disbelief to cope with, regardless of how else you subverted the genre. Too much of it showing up erroneously in badfic and yaoi manga means that even with a rational explanation behind it, I'm going to be eye-rolling away.

I am the exact opposite. I do like the dupconny bits but I am not a great fan of knotting and the rest. But rock on, the main reason the alpha omega stuff is around is because most of the fandom can find at least something they like in it. There are plenty of people who love the same aspects ofit that you do.

Because honestly, those are my same problems with ABO fic. I LOVE the worldbuilding aspects of it, but the way dubcon, codependency, and a lot of other problems are effectively inherent to most people's versions of ABO just drives me nuts, so I usually don't read it.

My favorite part about A/B/O is actually the idea of heats+knotting, and I usually bypass any of the pregnancy tropes entirely. Still, a A/B/O with good worldbuilding would be right up my alley. :D

I like A/B/O with plenty of world-building and having more story involved than just "Alpha and Omega meet, omega goes into heat and gets fucked by Alpha!". If the fic also tries to mitigate the dub-con aspects, all the better.

If you have a creative interpretation, I'd encourage you to write anyway. Variations on tropes are a good thing, especially if you have your own ideas on how to deal with the more questionable aspects (like the dub-con and codependency).
