Yeah, of all the slash writers that I know, which is a bit, though limited to a few fandoms, not one of them has admitted to anal sex (and they're almost all exclusively straight women)

Depends on what corners of fandom you lurk in. It's really hard to get an overall view of the whole of fandom when it's so fragmented.

As a rule of thumb, fanfic writers tend to be older than their readers. If you said 99% of fanfic readers, perhaps.

Fanfic writers tend to be older and have had more time to try a variety of sexual activities. Of the fanfic writers I've read who write anal sex? I'm guessing quite a few have tried it.

Not gonna lie, I was always fine with basing the sex (butt- and otherwise) in my fic on other fic, fandom discussions, and internet-based research in general.

But now I'm working on an original novel that I'd like to publish when it's done, and I'm finding myself feeling massively insecure about the porny bits. Even though there's plenty of other stuff in there that I also don't have much or any personal experience with. D:

One of my dearest friends is a gay man that finds the absolute obsession with "preparation" hilarious. He's told me about the many times he and his boyfriend couldn't be assed (har!) with it, and just used whatever happened to be nearby at the time as some form of lube to get straight to the ramming. My personal favorite statement: "Beer was a bad idea."

I'm female. I've written slash and done anal stuff. I've also read Minotaur's sex tips.

The funny thing is, you can have all kinds of sexual experience and it can be different from what others have experienced. And I'm not talking about anatomy fail (though some people don't have typical anatomy), I'm talking about lube (yes, sometimes actual people use not-so-great substitutes for lube and they don't end up horribly damaged) or stretching (sometimes, actual people are fine without it) or sensations or whatever.

Assuming that most slash fic writer are also female, they can have anal sex every hour on the hour, they're still never going to be able to know what it feels to do so with a prostate.

Should they have some kind of implant or transplant before they're qualfiied to write men having anal sex?

What about those who write about clitoral orgasms who've never had a clitoris, what should they do?

Eh. Pretty much all my female friends (who I'm close enough to that I would hear about it) have at least tried anal sex. Many of them love it. I don't think it's nearly as uncommon as people think.

Yeah, as I've gotten older and more experienced, it's become clear that a lot of fic authors just... don't know a lot about sex. Some of it is rule of porn, which I'm fine with - some of the, uh, more realistic aspects of anal sex are not terribly sexy - but some of it just makes me wonder if they understand how human bodies fit together. Research is a fine substitute, but reading other anatomically creative fanfiction isn't actually research.

Also, the prostate is not a bundle of nerves. It is a gland. That's still my ultimate pet peeve.

Me, too, anon. Mostly because OH THE PAIN THE PAIN. If it's painful, I'd say don't do it. I've never had a lick of pain. But also because of how most never include the butt cheeks as part of the affair. It's like the asshole is just hanging out on a flat surface. Also, rimming scenes tend to be unrealistic as well because of same and the strength of the sphincter. Rimming is plain exhausting. But fun.
