This is only really tangentially related to your comment, but it's a bit of a pet hate of mine:

I am really sick of people ragging on Martha about "being insensitive about someone who is effectively dead" or whatever.

Because until Utopia all she knows is that Rose is happy and with her family. How the fuck is she supposed to know that Rose didn't leave willingly?

And once she actually hears what happens to Rose in Utopia, she never says a single thing about her again.

Moral of this story: Just because you know the backstory doesn't mean the characters do.

(I had the same issue with stupid fanfics where the Doctor got angry at Martha or calling him a "plus one". It was getting angry at a character for backstory she had no idea about, and I was so glad that the Doctor had no problems with using it for Astrid as well)

God, those were moronic. Yes, the Doctor is going to remember something he said to Rose five minutes after she joined him on the TARDIS, and is going to flip a bitch at Martha using the same perfectly common phrase - that makes total sense.

I'm curious as to why people seem to think it's Martha Rose would be jealous of, though, considering Martha's in a relationship and won't be the main companion if they meet in season 4 - is Donna being completely counted out because she's omg liek old!!1! ?

Am I the only person who likes H/G specifically because it was left a bit more to the background?

Because I've gotten so sick of my other fandoms making everything all about the OTPs that I kind of love having a fandom where friendship is more important that romantic love.

(I also want to find post-DH fic that is also more about frienship than shipping, and it's damned hard)

But it wasn't left in the background. It was practically the entire plot of HBP for the Gryffindors. It's just that any development was left out, so there was far too much 'Harry has a terrible metaphor in his chest' and 'Ginny had a personality transplant' and not enough 'Wow, I really believe these people could make a marriage work when one of them seems to like his wife because she's hot and agrees with him alot, and the other wanted him as soon as she knew he was famous.'

*huggles OP* This secret makes me sad. I know how you feel, but you really do not want obsessive terrifying self-loathing sadomasochism. Things may be bad, but I promise you, you will not always be alone, and you will find someone who loves you without being all freakish and destructive.

This book - seriously - is one of the best I've ever read. Because of Kurtz, and Marlowe's narration, and the increasingly claustrophobic atmosphere. And I'm eternally grateful my teachers never wanted me to analyze it, because the impact would lessen and that would make it meaningless.

Yeah, like with me, who was not only assigned to read and analyze it in two separate English classes (within the same year), but both classes also assigned it as a mandatory paper topic. :(
