44. What's with the either-or mentality? It's like every single fucking person in Disney fandom wants the CG people on one side and the traditional 2D animation people on the other side and never the twain shall meet. I think they're blaming the fact that Disney is in a slump ANYWAY on the rise of computer animation, because...it's not Pixar's fault that all Disney did for a few years was churn out new cheapquels. CG isn't going to ruin hand-drawn animation as an art form. And yes, they can coexist. Need I remind you that the animator you're so angry with worked on Aladdin? Which used some pretty innovative computer-animation tricks itself? I think good things can be done with both, and people need to stop painting CG animation as a horrible new thing that will burn Disney traditions to the ground.

I think you're missing my point... I'm not specifically talking about Disney. I mean in general. I'm a fan of CG, but it IS making things hard for 2D animators. It's getting harder for us to get jobs. "Kid's" animation aside (i.e. Disney and Nickelodeon), animators are getting less and less work in commercial jobs. Small studios are closing all over the place because no one wants hand-drawn for advertising anymore.

I know about the mix of CG in Aladdin (and Beauty and the Beast, and Hercules, Treasure Planet, etc). Please don't talk down to me.

Although honestly, fandomsecrets is pretty tame. I'd say it's more ljsecret or the original postsecret project where the real reasons for guilt come out to play.

I don't mean to play the messiah and forgive everyone's transgressions, I just see a lot of guilt when I'm around here, and there's not a lot to be guilty about. That was merely what I wanted to say. That won't stop anyone, I'm sure, but I stand behind the f!s community.

You know, usually, I'm all for fandom-related complaining, especially the wanky sort. It entertains me as long as I don't get involved in it (which might say something about me and my ability to be easily entertained, but that's currently irrelevant). But this is getting really old. You don't like the guy? Okay. Don't watch the dubs of the anime he's done. I empathize with you, I really do; I am unable to enjoy the dubs of Naruto, Bleach, or Tsubasa Chronicle because I dislike several of the voices, and they're some of my favorite shows. But you won't see me going on and on about how they suck everywhere I go. Why can't more people just opt not to watch it and go out of their way to recommend the Japanese version to people instead of constantly complaining about how "so-and-so's voice ruined the show for me"?

Sorry if this sounds bitchy; it wasn't meant that way. It just irritates me to see people complaining all the time about the same exact thing.

26. Near fans unite! I loved him pretty much right away when I first read the manga (snark FTW!), but I have to admit, the reaction to the one-shot makes me happy. Now I get to be like, "I told you he was going to grow up smokin' hot." :) And less character-bashing is always good.

7. I know how you feel. I always feel that way after Makoto Shinkai's movies, actually -- it never ends well, and to love like that seems terribly painful, but at the same time it seems so beautiful that it seems like it would be worth it, even if it does hurt.

If I'm mistaken and the picture's not from a Makoto Shinkai movie (I'm not quite certain -- I've only watched them once each, because... I guess I don't feel like making myself cry that often) ... sorry, ignore me?

It's funny that your teacher is holding it up as an example of anti-colonialism -- both my high school English teacher and my post-colonial lit professor saw it as quite the opposite, and went on about how it was reinforcing stereotypes of Africans as barbaric savages and Africa as a dark and evil wilderness in which civilization of any kind could not survive and so on and so forth. That's true to a certain degree, of course, but I think that's a little unfair, because for its time it was pretty progressive, and it does have an anti-colonial message, even if it... okay, I'm sorry, I'll stop now. f!s is not the place for srs literature discussions.

18. Eh, I liked him well enough in FMA. Preferred him to the original seiyuu, actually. Yes, I know, it's horrible blasphemy to like a dub actor better than the Japanese VA. You can all commence with telling me how wrong I am now. Anyway, I haven't seen him in anything else, I don't think, so I don't really know, but... although he may be a douche, I don't think he's quite as much of a talentless hack as people make him out to be.

(I probably shouldn't have touched that one, huh?)

41. Oh god, Nuriko. ;_; Though I was so pissed off about what the author did to him right before (the whole "surprise surprise, I'm a straight man and not a transwoman at all!" thing) that I wasn't quite as upset by his death as I would've been otherwise.

I preferred him to the original seiyuu in FMA, too, and Romi Paku is my favorite voice actress of all time. I just thought he fit that role better. So you're not alone.

I think I had a minuscule identity crisis when I admitted to myself that the series wasn't as good as fandom had made it out to be. I can say now with minor twitching that, yes, the quality really went down, to me it was with HBP, that's when I realized how shock full of cliches the books were and how thoroughly predictable they had become.

61. I don't know about anyone else, but this secret reeks of elitism to me. Was the FF bashing really necessary? Also, it's pretty pretentious of you to assume that the only reason people like newer games is the graphics. Maybe they really do like how the games play, just like how you like all those games in your secret? It looks like nowadays that the good old games of yore are becoming overrated in order to counteract the popularity of the newer games.

Words change and mean different things to other people. What is old school to you may not old school to someone else. Old school is not just a word to describe older games, it also has to do with the fond attachment we have to them. My first gaming system was the Sega Genesis. My cousin had one and I was all about Sonic. According to my parents, every time we'd go to my cousins, all I'd talk about on the way home was Sonic. Hell, I'm not sure if I was even aware of the existence of NES and SNES at that age. Breath of Fire IV was my first introduction to RPGs. Sonic and Breath of Fire IV are my old school, and even though they were made a long time ago, (lots of them before Sonic's time for sure) NES and SNES games feel like a newer thing to me. When I first played Kirby's Adventure a few months ago, it felt like a brand new shiny thing to me, no different from were I to head on down to the store and buy the latest graphically stunning new release. The same holds true for other people, such as ones who started with the Playstation or the Nintendo 64. To them, FFVII is their old school. Super Mario 64 is their old school.
