If we hear of someone having sex that we think of as young, what we do is check their age and oh they're 18? totes fine to have sex with all the peoples then. Wait they're underage by a week? no they're pure innocent children we must protect

Ugh, the sexualization of minors is what turned me off of manga for like 8 years. It's a nasty, incredibly common part of the genre. I'm back into manga now but I'm choosy as hell about what I read and watch.

It's less about the under-age thing, and more about the girls as fuck-holes thing. Literally no shits are given about the J-Beib or the R-Patts clocks. Shit, Look at the visceral reaction of MLP porn compared to... Fuck throw a fucking stone in any fandom featuring cute under-age boys. Who else was in the Gundam Wing fandom here? It is a double standard? Sure. Is it a problem? I kinda don't think so.

I don't necessarily have a problem with manga depicting sexuality, except that it so rarely does genuinely. And I say this as a total manga nerd. Most of the time its teen girls, often drawn as young looking as possible, portrayed as sex objects for the audience, rather than teen girls taking charge of their sexuality. You rarely see a genuine story about high school sexuality - nothing about two teens stumbling through their first time, awkwardly trying to own their sexuality, whatever, it's almost always virginal except when it's blatantly pornographic. Sexy manga high school girls are usually for the reader's benefit, its not about the girl.

Plus, I did mention the whole young thing, too, right? I don't personally want to see anything explicit about people under 18, even though I respect that they do have sex (and sexual urges), I'd rather not be shown. I definitely do not want to see a girl that looks eleven, whether she is or not, looking sexualized.

I don't like people sexualizing just barely legal girls (or boys) either.

The point (to me) isn't whether teens will have sexual experience. Many will--with people about their own age. Fumbling, awkward first love experiences that will hopefully help them become mature.

But I know I personally wasn't mature enough to have sex when I was underage or even when I was 18.

And I think it's gross when adults want to have sex with people who are still mentally immature. Yes, I think 18 is in that range. Study up on the maturity of the brain at various ages, see what I'm talking about.

I'm guessing by the secret that you're a guy? You probably don't understand the full pressure of the male gaze/sexualization/underage skeeviness that many women have had to experience and navigate all their lives. It's twisted as fuck.

But don't worry, get your jollies from anime. At least that's pretend. :D

Correction: most people find the sexualization of underage children skeevy period. (But only overt sex-having sexualization, not subtle sexualization like child-size bikinis or "underwear" that's for all intents and purposes lingerie, or actresses in Disney channel movies aimed at tweens behaving like adults. SJW's have completely taken comic books, and are working on video games. 2020 will mark the year when SJW's target anime. Mainstream attention will go to Japan for the Olympics and mainstream media will introduce the uninitiated to anime and Japanese culture. Outrage will spark about sexualizing those poor cartoons and demand for policed art will be loud, exactly how it happened for comic books and now video games. You think anime is mainstream now? You have no idea.

Sadly, I think there are a lot of people who, while trying to identify some kind of fundamental external arbiter for why these kids "shouldn't" be having sex or whatever, grasp onto the age of consent as the absolute thing.
I have seen conversations about shipping which devolve into wank over the character being 16 and how that's the legal age of consent in X country, when that's really not what the conversation should be about at all. It obscures the issue.

It is okay to like a certain character because of the role they have on the show or how they are developed, but to like them because they are an undeveloped little girl is just disgusting. It is really annoying seeing pedophillic tendencies seep into my anime. Stop making older characters look like they are nine years old and stop sexualizing little kids.

There should be no reason why a person with a healthy disposition should be attracted to children. If a person finds attraction in a child, then something is very wrong biologically.

Attraction is rooted in the biological need to propagate the species and children cannot fulfill the role of propagating the species. Thus, persons are only supposed to be attracted to potentially fertile persons.

Girl in the secret is obviously not a child, so there's nothing wrong with thinking that she's hot.

I've never complained about Japanese stuff sexualizing 16 or 17 year olds, because that's never been the ages I've seen treated in creepy ways. The creepy treatment I've seen in Japanese media has been of characters with ages like 13 and 14.

It is rare that anime, outside of hentai, portrays prepubescent girls in a 'sexual nature.' Just because they are cute doesn't mean they are being sexualized.

As for teengers being portraying in a 'sexual' nature. Teenagers are sexual. Deal with it. Live action shows portray teenagers in sexual ways. Teenagers are also the prime audience for anime, not 40 year old men.
