They way they always have to criticize and point out all the flaws in TV shows and movies so they can prove... whatever it is they're trying to prove. That they're smarter than the creators, that they're cool enough to notice, that they're above all of us idiots who enjoy it anyway, whatever.

I'm not asking geeks to be fashionable or anything, but at the very, very least use deodorant and bathe yourself regularly. You're part of the reason I don't go to cons.

Guys, can we all dial down the loving descriptions of weaponry and brutal wounds please. It is getting creepy at times the way so many nerds are just so into military power fantasies and revenge-torture stories. It'd just be supergreat if you could dial down the amount of revenge-rape stories too, that gets thrown around too.

Not criticising you specifically, but I find a lot of nerds who complain about other nerds have literally zero perspective outside their tiny subculture and group of other nerdy friends.

The type of conservative, possessive nerd that has claimed ownership over a fandom, especially older ones that have been semi-forgotten for a while (like Deus Ex, or Fallout before Fallout 3 came out) and gets furious at the announcement of new material in their fandom. The type who take a new sequel as being a personal attack on everything they stand for.

I know I harp on Thief fandom a lot but my experience with them has been so overwhelmingly negative it's colored my views on retro gaming fandom AND nerd culture in general.

People who just CANNOT ACCEPT that not every geek will love the sacred cow geek media that everyone can never say a word against. Not everyone likes Pixar films, Star Wars, Marvel or Tolkien. Flying off the handle as soon as anyone dislikes any aspect of them is just insufferable.

For example, like the ones who go on and on about how "OMG! I loooooove Star Wars!!!" and when you ask them "Oh, who's your favorite character?" they stare at you blankly or they say something like "I love Queen Leia!" or "Captain Kirk! :D"

No, I'm not on of those "You're not a REAL fan if you don't..." type people (ugh), but if you claim to love something so much, at least learn the basics.

Comics-fandom specific: Frank Miller worshippers. Yes, he's done some shit that was good (NOT AMAZING, but good, and was new and different at the time it came out so therefore it was important) but guess what, he's done a ton of shit that was FUCKING ATROCIOUS. and honestly his view of Batman as this unstoppable tank who's always fucking angry and obsessively WORKS ALONE and, for the World's Greatest Detective, really only detects by punching people until they yell out the answers he needs...is basically DIRECTLY fucking responsible for the entire feel and ethos of Batman v Superman. You like that movie? No, huh? WELL, IT'S LITERALLY SNYDER AND GOYER'S VERSION OF THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS. ENJOY.

I'm mad about it. he's coming to the con in my city in a few months and I knowwwwww I'll be surrounded by fanboys who don't seem to think it's a problem that in Miller's mind, Bruce Wayne and Marv from Sin City are the exact same dude.

Actually, someone posted a half joking comment to a typical book nazi GoT article on io9 recently and it ended somewhere along the lines of "and OMG who the fuck reads the same book 10 times, fucking dorklord". I really wanted to applaud.
