What is everyone doing this weekend?

I am spending most of Saturday in a driving class. I am finally going to tackle my horrid fear of driving (at the too old age of 28). The one good thing about hating my job is it has motivated me to work on this problem. Afterwards, my sister and I are going to the Pioneer Woman Mercantile store.

Sunday, I think we are going to just grill out and hide eggs for the nephew.

Book club - May poll CLOSED

Poll is closed!

The winner is Dragon Wizard by Andrew S. Swann, so that's what we'll be reading for May. For those who do not know, it's the third in a trilogy, and the BC has already read the other two books (Dragon Princess and Dragon Thief).

Please tell me what you think of checkbox voting. Personally I kinda like it - it takes some of the pressure off, and I noticed the results were closer this time than they usually are. We may try it again next month, but any feedback is appreciated!

Additionally, here is what I'm thinking, so far, for April discussion: we'll have our first post on Sunday (it'll be April 30) and I'll post two more times, on Monday and Tuesday, to try to catch anyone who couldn't make it Sunday. I'll link back to the previous day(s) AND repost my own thoughts/questions. (People will be encouraged to comment on the current thread, even in response to something on an older thread, just to keep it all in one place.) You can go to any or all of these discussions. Thoughts?

Don't forget we are reading Night Watch by Terry Pratchett this month!

I really liked checkbox voting, even though I didn't vote for the winner - I'm glad that I got to vote for a variety of books that I wanted to read, and I also feel like it's easier to see how broad-based a book's support is. It's a lot harder to be salty about something winning or losing, you know?

What date did we decide for the Night Watch discussion, by the way?

I didn't like it. It was more trouble than it was worth. I voted for the book I liked and didn't see any need to try and upvote others to freeze another book out.

Could you write up your club leader's discussion starter and give it to Case in advance to put up with the rest of the post? That way we can get any discussion started when it posts and not worry about it lagging, then dwindling and dying as everyone moves on.

I liked the checkbox voting. It was nice to simply vote for the books I wanted to read without having to sort out what to vote for that actually has a chance to win like I did previously.

April 30 sounds good to me for the discussion.
