Non-fiction book recs?

I'll start: I just finished The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women, which was about women who worked painting radium on clock dial faces and wound up becoming severely ill and usually dying. They had to fight very hard to get any compensation from the company that employed them. It was extremely depressing but very interesting, and also very well-researched.

Anyone else have any non-fiction recs? (You can throw in fiction recs too if you really feel like it.)

Since ignoring her and trying to avoid contact with her as much as possible isn't doing the trick, is there a diplomatic way to say "I'd rather shoot myself in the face than listen to you yammering on about your personal life. You're at a work setting, act like it."

I have friends who are only there when things are bad. Mostly sites like LJ and FB since it's harder to pull that off IRL. I have LJ friends who only comment if I'm sad. It's almost like some of them want me to be sad.

i realize its better than not having anyone comfort me, but I want friends there for me when I need a good laugh, too.

Someone is out in the alley behind the house trimming back the pomegranite--except it's a month or two until they're ripe. I get it, you hate trees, but whoever you are, you're an asshole.

Weirdest thing you've found in your garden/near your place?

I was hanging the laundry up in the garden a few months back and saw something bright pink in the grass. Got a bit closer and it was a huge rabbit vibrator. I confirmed that it definitely didn't belong to anyone in my household and we still can't figure out how it ended up on our side of the fence or whose garden it came from. Funny but also mystifying. I said to my partner that maybe it's some weird southwest version of the mafia, like maybe we pissed someone off and instead of a horse head in the bed we get sex toys in the grass.

I just got offered a mod position :/

I've been spending a lot of time on one particular subreddit. And I hit a point where I thought, OK, I give up, I'm being obsessive about this, and it's sucking up my time.

I kind of wanted to quit.

So, of course, today they offered me a chance to be a mod.

I've never been a mod. I don't know how to be a mod. I think I will get tired of it. I'm not really on there all the time, anyway, and I don't want to be. I don't think I want to be a mod, but mostly I don't have any idea how that works. I can't even tell what all the mod functions are on the application.

Is this an opportunity I should take? Is the opportunity to learn something worth it?
