127 - Hey, I agree with you! The manga (and the movie that followed it a bit closer) just didn't appeal to me at all. Okay, granted I didn't read it till the end but I found the humour and stuff kinda boring. I preferred the dripping-with-teh-emo-and-sadness anime! It felt nicer.

But then of course I am far from a hardcore fan of VoH... and it's been some time since I watched it too.

Heh. Actually, I write the characters I LIKE being raped.

"Non Con" would be an excellent name for an actual convention. I'd attend. *snrk*

If fandom/1 friend is really all it takes, your problems are either not that serious, or not actually resolved in any significant way.

Yeah, I thought the same thing when I was a teenager, but when I hit my mid 20's and still wanted to check out, it occurred to me that maybe something a little more substantial was needed (professional help). It just took me a retardedly long time to figure that out, b/c I wanted to believe that other things (fictional things) were enough. And so I was miserable and ashamed for much longer than necessary.

What I hate, is when people discourage others from getting help they may actually need.

152's OP

(Anonymous) 2008-06-21 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I wanted to "check out" for years before I met this person. Believe it or not, even after years, things can make a turn for the better if you wait it out.

(Also, let's just say that one friend seems like a lot when you had none before.)

[identity profile] onidori.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
111. I don't think it does.

112. It's a little sad that I knew what that was when I saw that.

124. I'm not in the mood to put in my retarded two cents (I don't think it matter after all those other comments posted), so I'll just go with that I agree. -.-

136. But they're DRAWINGS. D:

141. .....Is that Ecco? That's the only dolphin game I know of.

141 OP

(Anonymous) 2008-06-21 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. And it IS damn scary. :/

143, 144

(Anonymous) 2008-06-21 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
143. A touch oversensitive?

144. I felt conflicted over this scene because it was the best possible way to end the series, and had it ended any other way I would not think so highly of Life on Mars, but at the same time I WAS SO SAD HE DIED. It was like the ending of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

At 115: The Big Bang Theory is awesome! Totally excellent crush.

127. I sort of didn't like the gag angle of the manga, though I did prefer it to the anime as a whole.

138. But... that looks so creepy....

140. Ditto. On both accounts.

[identity profile] colorcapsule.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
LOL Just what kind of slashers do you hang around with? I know mine (even myself, I daresay) doesn't even say anything close to that lol |:

Re: 108

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, all slashers are the same and liek teh KAWAII BISHIES AND EVERYONE MUST TOO!

Honestly, like all fandoms, even slashers have annoyingly pushy fans among them and like most fandoms, a small section of fans is not a correct reflection of all fans.

(Anonymous) 2008-06-21 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
hon, you're not missing much. keep up the good work and don't waste your time with watching clamp murder what little good was left in them.

I wish I had never known there was a religious context, I liked it better when it was only a story for me, and not some stupid allegory. The innocence is ruined for me now.

Me too. I feel jipped because I loved the Narnia books.

27 years old here too! Pft. I know 40+ year old fans. Where do you think anime fandom CAME from?

127

[identity profile] asmaria.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 04:28 am (UTC)(link)
I like the anime too! *_*

I tried to glance past it in time.

I failed. ;-;

115. You and me both.

[identity profile] nirvana-falling.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
126. I agree 100%

[identity profile] obnoxdwfanbrat.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
143) Okay, so maybe I'm just an idiot, or an uninformed american, but wtf did he say?

(Also, tell me what's sexist about the end of forst of the dead, as one above poster said. River is strong and badass and saves the world and ends up getting saved in the matrix. So she got to be all yay mommy to computer kids. So what? You show a guy hanging out with his adopted children and no one goes ZOMG SEXIST, they go OMG SEXY FAMILY MAN.)

Re: 143

[identity profile] xanykaos.livejournal.com 2008-06-21 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
If I'm the above poster (and I guess I am) here's what I heard, more or less. Moffat said that back before he met his wife, he was far more like Patrick than Steve in Coupling--basically a giant man-whore (and the fact that he pokes fun at that with Patrick and points out how incredibly shallow he is in ever episode seems to illustrate that, y'know, he's grown past that point, IMHO). He also said that women, moreso than men, tend to want to get married, settle down, and have families. Mind, in "Blink" it's Nightengale who wants a relationship before Sally's ready for one, but OMGs, it's her happy ending because they held hands and Moffat means that she's only happy now because she can be with her man, whatasexist! (Couldn't be that, y'know, he just likes writing relationships with happy endings every now and again.) Oh gosh, and the girl in "Empty Child" was totally maternal and had to admit being a mother to save the day--never mind that it worked for her character and the story, and golly, some women actually are maternal and enjoy being that way! He also said boys are more adventure-type, which, again, if you look at most writing, is true. It's just straight-up easier (or at least far more common) to write a simple adventure story with a male hero because it's a default. That doesn't mean it's always the case, but basically, it's the default model of our society, and just because he's been influenced by a couple-hundred years worth of that does not make him a sexist.

Buuuuut... All that said, what struck me as "hruh" (that is, a little confusing and out of left field) about the end of FotD was that River had never expressed any interest in having children, or having a new relationship with anyone, but the machine world happy ending -bang- gives us children to show that she's happy. It didn't make sense because she just didn't seem like the kind of character who'd want kids. Now, fair's fair, Donna doesn't either, but they built up to it so it worked (for me). But I would think a woman like River's idea of paradise would be more about infinite worlds to explore that three fictional kids tucked in bed. It didn't seem downright sexist to me until I read the interview, and then it kind of soured a bit, because I could see the opinion pretty clearly.

But other than that...I think Moffat's done a brilliant job of lampooning both genders equally, and honestly, I don't mind someone taking the piss about stereotypical girliness if they do the same about stereotypical manliness as well.

And he writes kick-butt women.

141- I had the version for GameGear, and I almost passed out holding my breath so many times! It made me panic; I hate that game.

147- I'm almost 22, and that is still my favorite game OF ALL TIME. I was in France for about five months, and it kind of saved me while I was there. I could pretend I was a kid again, playing at six in the morning in my living room at home. And, yeah, I could still draw a floor plan of the Mana Fortress.

154- I'm lolling so hard right now.

107. Don't worry, I agree with you. D: *loves Fuuka, hates Yukari* And I liked Fuuka's VA? She wasn't as strong as a few of the others, but it could've been a lot worse like Chidori.

126. THANK YOU, I feel the same way! All the Kingdom Hearts hate is ridiculous.

138. I'd love to see the website. I'm obsessed with makeup technique, and it sounds like a lot of fun. :B

123: As a 38-year-old who's into a lot of fandoms most people would see as "for kids", let me say: Don't get discouraged! Us older fan are out there!

153: I'm not sure I'd so far as "I'd hit it", but I certainly understand the sentiment. ^_^
