I for one am worried about it -- I've enjoyed Moffat's eps so far (in the US, will be seeing SitL tonight, so I'm a little behind the discussion), but I can't say I've been happy with the gender issues. I find them less skeevy than RTD's race issues, and I think his writing is in general stronger, so I have hope that the rest of the production staff will balance it out. (Haven't seen any of Coupling; it's not my sort of show.)

124. Do you think anyone who likes action movies with fight scenes wants to really beat people up? A lot of mainstream cinema squicks me hard because I can't separate fantasy and reality there -- I can do it when reading, but not in TV. So shoot-em-ups in movies often creep me out, if they're not cartoonishly. Does that mean I think everyone who liked, say, Fight Club is a horrific person? No. I just trust that they can separate fantasy and reality in that instance. I generally expect that people who like fictional rape can also make that separation. (And I really do think that the percentage of rape-readers who actually are potential rapists is probably about the same as the percentage of non-rape-readers who are potential rapists. Possibly less, since I think the demographics say that most rape-readers are women and most rapists are men, though that could be sexism/gender stereotypes at work rather than fact.)

I do agree that the "non-con" label to avoid the word rape is dumb. Call it what it is, people.

Just thought it was interesting that folx are saying that "non-con" is not exactly the same as "rape".

I hope that what y'all mean is that some non-con fic stops short of penetration, and not that "it's not realllly rape because they're dating / they're lovers / other excuse".

136. CLAMP's art could make even the most secure person have an ED. :( I wouldn't read/watch it if I were in your position. The art has changed now so the characters look less noodle-y, and Sakura actually looks like she has some meat on her bones since Infinity arc, but for the most part, the art in the series features lanky forms that would be gross to look at if they were real.

135. Why do you need to tell them you ship it when you don't? If they're worth your time, they'll be fine with it. I do know some shippers who WOULD act like you'd just stolen candy from a baby, but they aren't exactly worth anyone's time IMO. Some of us - myself included - won't bite. :) The only issue I have is when entitlement is involved - i.e. "Jo shouldn't have made it canon because I wanted something else to be canon."

Are you seriously saying people don't have the right to be disappointed because something they didn't like happened in the books? This is the thing about HP fandom that baffles me. That said, I like H/G fine, but I think Rowling wrote it very badly.

I'm glad that the fic helped you, and that you grasped something in it that I've spent a long time working out for myself. It's nice to know that something silly like fanfic can affect people -- it's very pleasing to me as a writer.

I completely support your decision not to medicate. I'd be the worst kind of hypocrite if I said otherwise. However, I made that decision after a lot of thought and work and study, and I always keep the option of medication there on the table. I hope you do the same -- good on yer for finding strength, but don't forget that if it reaches a point where you don't have the strength to wrangle with it, there's no shame in medication. I'm able to because my depression is reasonably mild, and I would never blame or belittle someone who really and truly needed the excellent drugs they have now for depression.
