126. You don't suck. I don't think that it's that fandom's about that so much as the fact that some trends frustrate people and frustration needs venting. And I'm pretty sure that nobody hates the fangirls unless they're trying to push their preferences on everyone else and shunning those who refuse.

I don't hate slash. And in purely theoretical terms I appreciate its value. It just does absolutely nothing for me personally.

The thing that drives me mad comes in two halves:
1. The "truism" held by a lot of slashers that the female characters are all boring.

2. The complete inability of certain (otherwise wonderful) fen of my acquaintance to get that one can be fannish without seeing every fandom through an m/m lens. In RL, friends who know I'm a lesbian usually take the clue eventually that I'm not likely to join in checking out the ass on that guy. So why don't fen get that I'm not interested in checking out the yaoi on that fandom?

Interesting reason. It's just a music video, hence it is a secret. I love the song and the band, but still. Crying over a music video? Artist is Jal, song is "Sajni". You'll be disappointed to find that the man's nose is not a prominent feature in the video. :P

Not that I agree with this you understand, but when I saw this secret i tried to think about why they call it non-con rather than rape. I think it's because 'rape fic' implies that it's about a character who gets raped, and then, usually, it's shown not at all in a pleasant way, it could just be a plot point, and there's usually 'getting over it' (no matter how stupidly) to be done. With the fics labelled 'non con' it's ... shown as something to get off on, basically. I still totally agree that both are rape fics, but I'm assuming they're trying to distinguish between 'omg she gets raped and it's totally horrible and dramatic' and 'omg this is actually supposed to be hot, either for the reader or for one of the characters'.

Someone stole my comment already, but yes - AMEN! I never understood why there was so much "non-con" in all of the fandom. It's such a disgusting kink. I've never been raped, but I don't need to be to know how un-glorifiable it is. And what's irritating is that a lot of fics then create romantic relationships between the rapist and the one raped. I can't help but go, "WTF??" What's really creepy is the age of the writers too.

Yeah, that sort of relationship (victim growing affections for the rapist or vice versa) is called a "stockholm syndrome" which really does exist in psychiatric terms. It can happen in any traumatic situation because it's a coping mechanism, but it is NOTHING like it's portrayed in fic.
