I haven't read The Three Body Problem, so I can't speak to the content of the book specifically.

But I think expecting people to judge books based exclusively on their politics - and not just on their politics, but on how the most basic, broad descriptions of their politics align with the plot summary of a book - is absolutely silly.

It does sometimes happen that people read things that they would politically disagree with without paying enough attention to notice the parts that they disagree with. But there's also just about a million other explanations for what's going on here, and even if they did politically disagree with it, it doesn't mean that every single reader would turn and dismiss it out of hand. That's absolutely a stereotype.

I feel this secret so much. TBH one big reason I started posting headcanons and then fics in my ship fandom was because the one big name fan in this ship fandom shipped the pair as abusive, and their fic is what people think of when they think of my OTP. But I (and many others) don't think this relationship is abusive (between each other anyway), and it bugged me that this was the main way non-shippers thought the ship fandom shipped the pair.

I get this. My top teeth are a little crooked and two of them kinda look like vampire fangs, so I always feel a little self-conscious when I smile and it’s too expensive for me to fix them.

I liked her two trilogies about dragons better, but I'm not sure if they've stood the test of time because I haven't read them for years. But I know how you feel, OP. I also tried to get into her new series that she started after not finishing the Exiles series and... meh. Didn't care for it at all. I feel a little guilty about that and wish her the best in terms of continuing to manage her mental health, but I think her writing no longer appeals to me.
