137) DS9 secret! Kira/Odo! \o/ Hooray! I know, that last scene broke my fucking heart. And I wasn't originally even that huge of a Kira/Odo shipper--I loved her with Bareil and never really got over his death (I think I'm a minority about that)--but I adored Odo and loved Kira and Children of Time I think was what finally did it for me. I'm glad he got to go home to his people in the end, but I remain convinced that someday he comes back to her.

Let go of her childhood? At the end of the movie she has a giant imaginary goblin party in her bedroom! That's a real crappy way of showing someone letting go of their childhood.

I think you're right, for the most part. The message was that she had to take responsibility for her own life, and live it by her standards and not the standards of the people who wanted to control her. But I also believe that part of the message was that you can do that, you can take that step into adulthood, and still retain elements of your childhood.

Why should the "author's pairings" be untouchable, though, when everything else in fanart and fanfiction is mixing and matching different parts of the canon? And why can't you love a series without being married to the idea of two fictional characters being together? That's not all there is to most series -- there's also the plot, the setting, and the characters' personalities outside of their relationships.

Seriously, this always confuses me. Especially when secrets like this are basically also saying that, if there's no romance in the confines of the series or if only two characters are paired up, it's a horrible thing to imagine any of the non-paired characters ever having relationships with each other.

I assure you, I can love a series, ship all the canon pairings, and also ship every potential non-canon pairing as well. Part of my way of showing love for the series is, when I absolutely love characters and their personality traits and the way they play off of each other, also mixing that up with romance/alternate less-healthy relationships. (:
