That's why most of the fandom takes place when she's older.

102. I think we all do that, more or less. Sometimes is a point of view about something or an eccentricity or a small detail. But it's something we can't help, I think. And I don't think it's really a bad thing, unless you start doing it too much.

108. That scene is soooo beautiful ♥

128. I'm always confused when someone calls him with the Japanese name. He'll always be Light to me, too.

113, 117, 121, 125, 133, 146, 154, 155

113. I agreed with your point, but...why the bad caricature of Mexico? You ruined it with that.

117. It...it...it's a TODDLER and a DOG. D:

121. If you want a guy like him, what the fuck does the fact that he's gay have to do with it? Just go for a guy like Neil that happens to hetero. Christ.

125. It pisses me off when people get upset about that...and THEY are writing the other person. So they're writing the one that's cheated ON and the one that was cheated WITH. I'm not saying that's what happened to you, it just popped into my head.

If it were a third party, I don't blame you for being upset. RP characters can be a little extension of yourself., sometimes.

133. I love that song, even if I wish it weren't so true.

146. I watched The Muppet Movie last night and I came to the realization that Miss Piggy is a drag queen. My god, she's fabulous.

154. Art like that freaks me the fuck out.

155. Yeah...but...think you missed the point a little. (And couldn't you have at least put a skinny woman in your secret? I mean, what was the point? ...lovely pic, though.)

Not fandom 1 and 2 are obviously the same person.

I'd REALLY hate to be that person's friend. Anger management much? Did you REALLY need that friend if you've got one that's helping you with the hacking? And way to waste your parents' money much... I hope it rains and floods around the places that could've used the home repairs.

*wankwankwank*
On my part. xD

Sadly, this isn't the first time I've seen someone say this. The fact that everybody's racist does not make racism okay. Stop using a shitty song from an overrated musical to justify your own bigotry.

Re: 133 addendum

(Anonymous) 2009-01-03 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy shit, I just read the lyrics to that song and it's even worse than I remember. Apparently, racist jokes are acceptable because stereotypes are based on truth! Acting like a bigot is laudable, because you're just being honest! Fuck that. This fucking musical and everyone who likes can all go fuck themselves.

Okay, now I'm going for a walk because a musical should not be making me this angry.

102: You're not the only one, trust me. And as for people calling you out, as long as it's well written and pretty in-character, no one will care too much.

106: I'd probably ship it more if they didn't work so hard to make Tully such a loser. As for whose kid it is, I thought the whole, "she gets married, has a kid, and gets divorce" was odd, anyway. Why not just have it be Dana and Peter's kid?

108: Between this and mentions of them in Harry Potter, I keep being tempted to buy crackers (which aren't as common in the US, I think; but I have started seeing them in stores). Still haven't, though...

112: LOL! Pedobear with Bowie hair!

114: Not even Kelso, who you're kind of supposed to hate?

117: "In real life, a baby and a dog would disgust me" Well, in real life, a dog wouldn't talk and a baby wouldn't act like a Bond villain, so...

122: Aren't those just, like, normal Ace bandages? Cuz you can get those in the same place as Band-Aids in most stores.

132: Yeah, I hear ya, some of those old, "dead" Sites are fun. Bring them back!

146: I'm not so sure about the Oz one, but I agree about the other two (though I've not watched any other versions of Treasure Island), and I'm twice your age. Dear, God, I love Muppet Christmas Carol. I watch it every year on Thanksgiving, and often at other times during the holiday season. Caine is a really good Scrooge, and Gonzo as Charles Dickens is awesome.
"Charlie, are ya hurt?"
"'To say that Scrooge was not effected would be untrue. But the moment had passed...'"
"He ain't hurt. Didn't even break his concentration."

107. The word "judge" just gets so hilarious when we fling it around in communities devoted to talking about cartoons on the internet. Good people of F!S, if someone who you will probably never meet has announced that you are condemned based on a miniscule element (that is, your consumption of a form of media) of your personality, I think it's okay to declare it no loss.

127. I felt like this for a while--anime was just a huge timesink, and dealing with my rl-friends who were still obsessed with it and their endless goddamn DVD marathons oh merciful baby Jesus was irritating, especially when it seemed like they just didn't want to talk about anything else. I also started moving out of my idiot weeaboo phase and realizing that network TV isn't the great evil I'd been acting like it was. But if you're expecting to find ~*life-changing masterpieces,*~ those are hard to come across in any media. Hell, even shows that are just decently entertaining are hard enough to find. You can still have some fun, though.

128. I like "Lighto" 'cause it's a nice compromise and it sounds funnier in filks. "His name was Lighto; he was a student / with a notebook that could kill / and an ego to fulfill..."

132. THIS. I was in a fandom that hit its peak in 2002-2004, and those sites have vanished to the land of wind and ghosts. :[

154. ...I'd yell at you, but the truth is, you probably won't.

107: idk about Lain as I've yet to watch it, but I completely agree on Gankutsuou. Of course, I'm just furious that the dub dubbed over the French recaps.

131: Yes. Our female characters rock, though <3. Especially Hungary. I'm not particularly fond of Liechtenstein, but I don't hate her or anything.

113) That picture. Wow.

127) Growing out of anime is fine and dandy. But calling the rest of us "people with shallow tastes and expectations"? Dude, that's not very nice.

128) It's really like I'm back in 2007 again!

133) Agreed!

138) Right.

154) [CLAMP] Lol for truth.

163) Enjoy your lolcat yaoi.

N!S 1) People don't write about canon gay. I thought this was pretty clear by now.

I didn't grow out of it. I just can't like shows where the main point of the fangirl squealing of my friends is about how hot characters are and all the fun ships. These series use general cliches that have been beaten to the ground among others.

114 - It's weird. I think JD turned into a total asshole, and I really dislike him sometimes, and yet, I still love him. It's like they are family, and no matter how much they piss you off, at the end of the day, you still love them.

121 - He is the perfect man, in my opinion.

114 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-01-04 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen a lot of people say they think he's a total asshole, but that's the main thing I don't get. I feel like I'm watching a totally different show than everyone who says that, because I still think he's the same loveable guy from season 1. Maybe it's just one of those shows I watch to laugh and not to analyze the characters or anything - like how I never really got into shipping with it. Idk, there are probably things he's said that would come off that way that I just disregarded as the writers being funny.

113. I know for a fact that there are cool, smart people who love Hetalia. Why does there seem to be such a high concentration of douchey Hetalia fans on FS? It's not just the drawing - the whole "BECAUSE!! TOO MANY COUNTRIES!!!" argument doesn't work too well when you've got a character representing Sealand.

Why not just say that the other countries aren't relevant to the story at this time? Despite that answer being really problematic in other ways, at least it makes sense.

116. I went through the same thought process, actually. I see no reason why it wouldn't work. :)

155. As a seriously skinny chick, the bugs me sometimes, it's true (I massively dislike just about all the "real women" rhetoric, to be honest). Still, on the other hand, I understand the idea behind it, and can sympathize to an extent. It is rare(r) to see bigger ladies on TV, so I get why people might be excited when one comes along and is awesome. Skinny awesome girls (as far as awesome women on TV go) aren't all that rare. So a thin character might be super interesting but on some level is just more of the same, whereas the larger woman is a departure from the norm on top of being a cool character. That's my theory, anyway.

164. I keep hearing about this series and it sounds too cute, but I never looked into it because I figured my Japanese wouldn't be good enough to be involved in the fandom. So, uh, I'm sorry to hear that I might have been kind of right?

Sealand has showed up in a grand total of three strips:

1: his introduction strip, which was poking fun at England's incompetence at keeping Sealand under control.

2: The strip about Sweden buying Sealand, which was poking fun at how you can buy anything on ebay.

3: For two panels in the introduction of Canada, where he pretended to be Canada so he could get into the world meeting. And the strip was poking fun at how Canada is so unnoticeable that somebody else can pretend to be him and nobody would notice.

It's not like he's in every strip ever. He shows up THREE TIMES and isn't mentioned at all in the rest. And even then, the jokes aren't about him specifically. He's being used in jokes about other countries.

If you're going to use a minor country to prove this point, try picking someone else who shows up more often.

Psychology. It says yes.

The difference is in who engages their frontal lobes and suppresses that judgment.

Of course, you'd like to believe that it can be trained out of a person -- it makes you feel better about yourself to believe that -- but it just can't. Sorry. You can just get really damn good at skimming over the reaction. But hook you up to a machine that measures the muscle twitches in your face and the neuron activity in your brain and it's still there.

I was originally of the opinion that you guys couldn't all be that bad, and yeah political cartoons have done it and whatever, but this is causing me MAJOR EMBARASSMENT SQUICK. Plz assume your place among the Furries and the Goreans and the other fandoms that nobody respects, and stop trying to justify yourselves.
