Hetalia Secrets: NO NO NO, guys! Guys! We were so close to being free of it! Don't revive it!

157: If you beat Sacred Stones, you'll probably be able to beat the others. Maybe not the japanese only ones, but The gamecube and Wii ones are probably EASIER than sacred stones, if you take them both on their easiest difficulty. The other GBA one will probably slap you around a bit, though. But that's the fun of the games, at least for me. It's no fun if the game just rolls over and lets you win, eh?

[identity profile] xilnold.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
163: If people judge you for liking things they don't like, then they're not worth having as friends.

Insert motivational speech here.

114. I call troll.

175. Same here. But half the reason I don't want my stuff to be published is I'm sure if I get one it will be mostly shipping of the main two characters, who are JUST FRIENDS DAMNIT. In before "lol famewhore" and "you're putting way too much thought into it"

103. You do realize that actively telling people on your side that they're not good enough is actively discouraging people from engaging in small steps against racism that can change attitudes and lead to taking larger steps, right? But if you want fewer people giving a shit about racism, that's fine, I guess.
114. Uh, speak for yourself?
123. I'm jealous, man. :) I would, and I'm sure others would, too.
127. GRANNY WEATHERWAX ♥
137. SECONDED. EITHER ONE.
150. Hey, I like sociopaths in fiction. You don't have to deal with Robin in real life--it's not strange that you would like her even without liking her real-life counterpart.
151. Oh god, two of my favorite companions? Yes please.
160. Agh. Does she think you can change someone from straight to gay or gay to straight, too?
163. Variety is awesome! Your fandom friends don't have to share every interest with you, and if they judge you, they're morons anyway.
N!S1. So did Todd Haynes, apparently.

Oh, good, Hetalia and Twilight secrets that say the same fucking thing every other secret has said! No, really, when you say it, it's new and original!

Hello my f!s reply comment, you're kind of tl;dr today. orz

114. Oh god, I know! How dare they spend all their precious time slaving away at work they're so passionate about! Whether they be doing it out of sheer fun or they might even be aspiring novelists that are strengthening their writing skills, it's just disgusting. I mean, it's not -that- hard to get published and to find a good promoter and editor, right? Ugh. And the fact that they're assuming other people would even take a second to enjoy all the work and effort, that there are people out there who enjoy reading through something that long when they can just read a book is preposterous! Go spend all that time on an actual book that can have the same exact content except it's a -book-! It's -supposed- to be that long!

128. Uh... did it ever cross your mind that she was just embarrassed? I get like that sometimes when I decide to take a little while to glance at the manga section of a bookstore only to find other people there. I can't help that I'm being secretly judged for what I'm picking out, which is ridiculous, I know, because odds are I'll never see these people again, but I can't help it. And as much as I hate to say it, I sometimes try to take a peek at what other people get, but that's mostly out of sheer curiosity.

156. FFFFFFF. This secret. Me. It's like, the same sentiments. D: Though I do think that some of the photos that are out there of the band can be very amazing and interesting. There's a bit of an artsy feel to them at times.

163. Are you kidding me? I have favorite series that stretch out over -tons- of genres, though I do tend to drift more towards shonen/seinen stuff. Anything that interests me though, I'll read. I don't care what people think. Guro, shojo, action-adventure, comedy, romance, whatever. I don't see why your friends should be getting so worked up about it. It's not like you're -defiling- the name of certain genres because you're not sticking to only them. "Oh noes we both read shojo but you picked up a horror series! BLASPHEMER." I think it's great when people that tend to stick to only one type of genre end up drifting out to another. It shows the influence of the second genre or series that they're getting into. :)

103 I find it odd that you assume that everyone that has a problem with this is in school, and apparently white. And I don't know why I should have to provide my bona fides to someone I don't know. I also find this a really insulting assumption. I think that representation in media is hugely important, because it underscores (or undermines) the assumptions that people make about minority groups. I think you want to think this, because you want to be able to belittle people who actually want to change something. I love how the only things that count as "activism" here are starting clubs or going to gatherings of like minded people. What other activities are on your narrow self-serving list?

114 If you don't like it, don't read it, and stop being such a fucking hypocrite. Go read your porn and leave other people alone. Newsflash: not everyone is like you.

116 Do you post this secret like every week or something?

128 Are you a guy or a girl? Also, I think when people are embarrassed about something they think everyone can tell because they feel so self conscious.

150 That's not hypocritical. Robin's a fun character but I'm not sure I'd like her much in real life either.

154 Because NPH hitting RDJ is a kind of hot the world is not yet prepared for.

158 I'd say me too, but actually I just feel sorry for judgmental people. It's so much energy expended, and so many avenues closed off for them.

159 No, thinking that LARS is sexy is just fucking weird.

160 I'm sorry, man, that is some seriously uncool. Some friend!

161 I always worry that people will feel hurt if I don't try their shows. But that just resulted in a lot of people hounding me about things, and it's made me resentful. I just forced myself to watch all of BSG, even though I hated most of it, just to get everyone to STFU about how omg, I will totally love it. (In fact, I didn't watch it, because I hated it, and then I said I'd read the recaps on TWOP, and they yelled at me about that too, so I "had" to read the recaps on the BSG wiki.) And I mean, I'll watch the end of the show? But never again, and all the screamers can fucking SHUT UP.

You might want to give your friend a little space so she doesn't get resentful too. Also you should go into those fandoms and find people to talk to, and then you won't feel so dependent on your friend. Because just because I don't like your show doesn't mean I don't like you, and it can be a lot of pressure when someone is always on you to watch/read stuff.

163 I like a variety of things and I know it can be hard. But more and more I think that people who judge me for liking or not liking a fucking TV show are idiots because jesus, life is too fucking short. Also, their arbitrary rules are keeping them from enjoying things. I like being eclectic!

165 I don't think it's actually shota; isn't he like, the same age as the others? You know, he just looks young?

168 It's all over LJ, in comms. Get with the program, dude.

Just a never ending parade of people with DVDs for you to watch: And this one's about this small group of people fighting the FORCES OF EVIL who are all played by black actors in space! While making quips! With an awesome, sexy villain! And people break up and die every week! Tell me how you like it!

Look at it this way: people are finally taking notice of the issue! It's an opportunity to create GENUINE awareness. TAKE IT. Not that you don't have a right to be upset, but this kind of thinking can backfire into scaring people off way too easily for my liking.

114. I care, and I love to read this kind of stuff. Just because you're only interested in romance and don't care where people got their inspiration, doesn't mean nobody else does.

126. Fair enough. I know I have a ton of not-quite-'ships where I love the characters' best-friend dynamic as it is...but with f/f pairings, I will almost always take 'em with sex XD

133. I'm mostly in it for... everything. Usually the educational bits. Sometimes the artists are too... kawaii-bishie for me to properly enjoy their works.

163. HI ARE YOU ME? My favorite series/fandoms are so varied and out there usually. It's hard finding others who love the same variety of series as me. Seriously, if you've watched/read/played it, chances are I've dabbled in it. ;_; And I recognize a good chunk of your fandoms. :D

[identity profile] nochi_san.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
103. I take offense to this. I've always wanted to do those things, but the boonwater town I live in lacks the resources (both financially and regarding anybody else giving a fuck) for me to do so. The casting protests have given me an outlet to do something in that direction, and I'm hoping will help me find ways to get resources out here to Chickenshit, Georgia for my own ideas. And I doubt I'm the only one.

119. I was kind of that way too, except I only ever cared about Jiraya and Kakashi to begin with.

103. Oh dear. I'm not touching this one.

107. You know, I'm tired of seeing this 'eat a hamburger' comment thrown at celebraties who don't deserve it. They're thin, but they're not wasting away - it's perfectly healthy. Honestly, being all snarky like that just makes you sound bitter and jealous.

123. Auw, I don't think it matters. I've got an IRL friend who's got the same language situations and we get by fine. I can't imagine that a fandom friendship would be any different. ^_^

133. (raises hand) I'm in the same boat, minus the fanart. I was totally neutral to the fandom before the wank happened, but I just had to step in and defend it because I honestly don't believe the fandom deserves to be bashed. Actually, all the hatred has made me like the series more.

167. I agree, OP. If folks can 'hate' imaginary characters so esily, what does that say about how they treat other *real* people? I mean, I've got one non-Umbridge character that I can say I hate, but people seem to have dozens of 'hated' characters. I dunno, it seems worrisome to me. Or, at the very least, the vast majority of people are exagerating their feelings to be dramatic.
