A lot of the characters I like in fiction are people I wouldn't go anywhere near in RL.

103. Look. Every little bit helps, right? Sure, some people aren't as aware as others, but isn't somewhat active better than not active at all? It could be the start of awareness for some people and you're bitching at them for it? Chill out. People have to start somewhere.

120. You guys should talk. Seriously.

143. ...I don't even watch House and that made it a lot more interesting to me.

148. "She makes me wish I were Hungarian."

178. I am the House to your Mello?

I would want to be friends with someone like you!

:) This may sound silly, but I often get messages on deviantART from people who do not speak or write English as a first language. Sometimes, I find that the native English-speakers are harder to understand! People who speak/write English as a second or third language put more effort into grammar and trying to make sense, I think.

When I get messages from native English-speakers that make no sense, I actually get a little embarrassed.

Be confident!

But let's ignore that you came to the party a little late and embrace the fact that you showed up at all. ♥

163. My fandoms are incredibly diverse. It doesn't stop me from connecting with the people in those fandoms, even though we may not all, uhm, share the same interests. Come, sit, be merry, ignore the people who judge you for your fandoms. They're not worth your time, bb. ♥

Also? I think it's better to be diverse. Once you get too tunnel-visioned, you have a hard time branching out again. (EVIDENCE: MY FANDOMS: Animaniacs, Politics, Ouran, Dexter)

103. Dudddddddddde. Unless you personally know everyone, calm down. It is disconcerting when film makers do that and I doubt a majority don't care about it because if they truly were, they wouldn't blink an eye at the casting. Jesus, your passion to fight racism is nice and all, but it doesn't mean to leave logic ahead, y'know. I don't like Avatar and all, but I can understand the disappointment.

110. Don't mind as long it's IC.

113. HA HA OH WOW. I'm glad you had so much fun.

114. Cool story, bro.

119. Personally, the hate is stupid too. There are a lot of flaws to Naruto, especially after Part 1 ended (enough for me to drop it anyway). But a lot of criticism I found against was pretty silly though to me. I think a lot of it has to do that it's pretty much the most popular mango in the world currently (although One Piece is king in Japan).

121. But annoys me about this secret is that if being a bottom means that you have to be submissive. No, just no, dammit. You can bottom and very aggressive, dammit.

123. Why not? Plus speaking with others would strengthen your English fluency so don't fret! Personally, I would be honored to be of help. Heck, I need to regain my ability to write Japanese again and I would like to find a fluent in Japanese to practice with.

128. It may not be because of Hetalia, but anime/manga in general. I don't see how anyone can say Hetalia is BL (which it really isn't) when the covers never indicate otherwise. The person is probably very self-conscious and nothing more. I notice that people do that when I'm shopping in Manhattan for manga, especially when I come close (supposedly one of my friends told me that I don't look like a typical anime/manga fan, especially when I was working and had a suit on).

132. You're not helping.

139. I don't think I can't like an actor/actress because they like a certain team. Of course, the team I always root for in basketball is the New York Knicks! Although, admittedly, I do get a little annoyed when Matt Damon and Ben Affleck make any mention of supporting the Boston Red Sox. HURR DERP.

159. I like it the Hetalia secrets that tell the haters and lovers of the series to shut up are as frequent as the "I love Hetalia" secrets now.

153. Jesus Christ. Case, this should be in the not!secret section. Seriously.

155. Because it is a symptom for someone to be a bully? Although, it's overplayed a lot, I'll give you that.

160. That supremely sucks and I prolly would've tell them to back off in a not-so-nice way. It is kinda sad there isn't any sort of program or something of the like to promote understanding of asexuality and that's it's normal.

163. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT. Variety is the spice of life especially with media. I like many genres and demographics that I'm usually have no problem find something entertaining (and why I think people who like older anime who are claiming there's no good anime these days are overexaggerating). Actually, I wish there were more people like that. I love variety.

170. Dude, it's like most of the fandom is wet for Grell, how is this a secret again?

Not!Secret 1. I lol'd hard because Cate Blanchett played a sorta of version heavily based on him.

163.

I have several friends who toss a lot of different fandoms at me, too. And it really depends on the presentation. I do have one person who suggests things to me, absolutely insists I'll love them, SWEARS TO GOD I'll love them, and if I happen not to she gets butthurt and annoyed and acts like I'm setting out to dislike it on purpose, even though she knows full well sometimes we just don't agree on things. I've tried to tell her it's nothing personal, she doesn't like some things I've recommended to her, but she just kinda BAWWS.

I think when someone really pressures me to get into something they like, it feels a little overwhelming. I'm much more likely personally to take a casual recommendation, especially if I know I'm 'free' to dislike it without hurting feelings or what have you.

Generally, the way to get me to try something is to lend me the book/DVD/whatever and say 'I think you'd like this because I know you're a fan of ______' (one of my quirks, I'm more likely to give something a chance if I know what pinged in the person's head that reminded them of me). And then?

Let it be.

Don't ask if I've watched/read it yet, don't beg me to get to it soon, just sort of let it lie. (Although I'm the sort of person who remembers to get around to stuff I've been given; can't vouch for others.) And once I'm done, not surprisingly, that person will be the first I go to and say 'Oh, wow, this rocked' or 'It just wasn't my thing.'

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who responds well to this, or if it's just a general sort of courtesy, but try leaving off any indication of 'I KNOW YOU'LL LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!11111two' and maybe tell them what about it reminds you of them ... then drop the suggestion in front of them casually and leave them to it.

Long comment is long. It's just I've been on the receiving end lately and it got me to thinking.

109 Awwww! ;^; This secret broke my heart! Ever since my unhealthy fixation on Uchuta in Zanbot 3 I've LOVED that hairstyle. I associate it more with super robot pilots than "emo" anyway. And since when do hairstyles have to have a "point"? Technically short bangs don't serve any purpose, either.

121 That's the dumbest shit I've ever heard.

133 I enjoy much of the fanart of Hetalia and I'm not even in the fandom.

135 The enemy of my enemy is my friend

161 Oh, I can totally relate. My best friend and I used to be in all of the same fandoms, and everything I watched he would watch and vice versa, but lately it's like I can't really get into any of his fandoms (first of all, he plays video games and I don't) and he's like completely opposed to watching anything I like with me (which includes anything that could slightly be construed as mecha anime, despite the fact that we watched Escaflowne and Eva together and he's played games like Metal Gear Solid, WTF).

163 What does being a girl have anything to do with this secret?

OP: 109

(Anonymous) 2009-01-09 09:46 am (UTC)(link)
I-I'm sorry! D: idk I just have this really awkard strong like for the hairstyle, which I always feel weird about. it has nothing to do with the whole "emo" thing though. I keep thinking of it in a practical sense. Like, "wow, it must feel nice being able to see through only one eye. I'm pretty sure your peripheral vision would give you a nice pat on the back if you brushed back that fringe of yours."

B-but whatever. I guess I am taking it a bit too seriously. orz

101. ME TOO. I have been building this whole story for my RB band. They're all vampires and one is a superhero, one is big into EGL, one is a pyschopathic rich young businessman, and another is a wannabe doctor. They all play in a band so they can act as crazy as they really are. I have way too much fun buying them clothes and instruments and stuff. :x I wish there were a community or something for this so that I don't feel like such a huge dork.

142. Do they dislike her because she's not Japanese, or because she's not Japanese and draws manga-style comics? Either way, that's a stupid thing to dislike someone for. Though, I'm not sure if manga-ka is the right term for her... We call comics from Japan "manga" and manga-style comics from westerners "OEL." But then I don't think there is another good word for it... You could use "artist" or "author" but most of them write and draw... skdjflk so confusing. @_@

155. Cracked does have some pretty neat articles sometimes, but a lot of the time they just don't do enough research... Though I usually don't mind since the main goal is always to be funny and hey, as long as they accomplish that... It's like a cool bonus when they make a really good point or show me someting I didn't know before.
