123. I don't know your fandom (you could like things I detest) but yes. Who wouldn't want to talk to someone who speaks Finnish?
137. I don't quite understand how you would, but I can understand why you would want to.

121. I'm American, and I like it when Canada tops US. Idek why.
123. I don't see why it should make a difference to people whether English is your second language or your third. I'd be friends with you...
139. Well, that's a dumb reason for not liking someone. The Spurs are a sports team, right? Who cares?
148. HUNGARYYYY <33
153. No. Way. *gaspshock*
154. NPH is made of awesome.
158. Do you judge yourself, then?
163. Really? Because I also like a variety of genres, and most of my flist is the same.
164. People post profiles/character designs of countries that haven't been in Hetalia yet at [livejournal.com profile] nationslash. You should check it out, maybe someone's done one for your country. :)

122. I wholeheartedly approve. Where is the fic? WHERE IS THE ROSEY FIC?

130. You. Can't stand. Castiel? Pray tell. Why?

CAN'T DO IT, CAPTAIN.

Um. Nevermind, sorry. YOU MADE ME THINK OF THE SHAT.

Not OP, but I don't like Castiel either, so I'll butt in here. I don't find anything endearing about him, and he always seems so one note. The few times when they have had a chance to flesh him out have really fell short for me and I just feel they could do so much more, but they're holding back. He's not funny, not adorable, not...much of anything and it bugs me to see so much screen time devoted to him...or any screen time, really. I get no spark from him and most of the things he does kind of pisses me off. If Sam doesn't get to punch him in the face by the end of the season, I'll be disappointed.

This is just my side, of course, I don't mean to speak for the OP at all.

103. You know what? You don't need to be organizing conferences to be anti-racism. Know what else? I bet you haven't bothered to ask even one fucking person if they, in their daily lives, bother to educate themselves and others about these things.

Fuck you, seriously. If I didn't care about this shit before it affected Avatar, then I wouldn't have cared when it did affect Avatar too.

114. Um, maybe all you read it for.

132. Brave and classy

163. to be honest that doesn't look like much variety at all.

re: 163

[identity profile] banditjoeykuba.livejournal.com 2009-01-09 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's quite a bit of variety. It's pretty evenly split between Shoujo and Shonen mangas/games and then branches out to: comedy, action-adventure, magical-girl, sports, romance, RPG, JPop (or JRock, I'm not familiar with the band she used for the icon), parody (in the case of Haruhi, Lucky Star, and Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged), and supernatural (which is different from magical-girl mangas). I can't categorize some of them because I haven't seen them, but at least one of those also appears to be in the fighting genre.

In fact, just using one of the games she listed, Disgaea, there are a myriad of categories to place it in: Dark Humor/RPG/Strategy/Action-Adventure/Parody.

142. I LOVE HER SO MUCH. Though I sometimes think her drawings look a little too Bleach-y, but other than that... she just has a very interesting style and ideas. grr now I wish I had a Re:PLAY icon.

And I hear ya with the manga-elitist friends... I once got seriously pissed at my best friend for picking up my copy of Mangaka America and snarking it while I was still standing there. Um, I BOUGHT the book, WHY would you sit right in front of me and make fun of something I obviously liked enough to pay for?

112. Most disturbing book I've ever read.
114. What? If you don't like it, then don't read it. Not sure wtf fandom you're talking about, but I love reading those kinds of fics for my fandoms. Maybe you're just shallow?

[identity profile] tamara-raymond.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
103. Irrelevant. If the only people allowed to voice objections to racism were the hardcore activists, the world wouldn't have come as far from racism as it has today. Also, "precious cartoon" snide remarks ignores that race portrayal in media is as much a part of real life as...well, real life.

[identity profile] la-revanche.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)

128. I don't understand why this is a secret. It seems like a journal post.

153. Well aren't you just a special snowflake? Join the club. Literally, there are clubs.

160. If they can't accept you for who you are, they're not a friend at all. Don't feel like you have to take that.

168. I didn't realize this had become fandom recs instead of, you know, actual secrets.

[identity profile] evewithanapple.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
132. Um, I think it has more to do with anger at the disrespect being shown to real-life tragedies than "bursting into tears at the mention of any war, ever". Put it this way: if someone made concentration camp porn (God, I feel disgusting just writing that) how would you feel then?

155. WORDY MCWORDENSTEIN. I was bullied for about 75% of my school career, and people who say stuff like "Oh, bullies are just misunderstood/abused/secretly like you!" PISS ME OFF. When you've had to drop out of school because your class shouted you down while you tried to make a speech, or when you get told that "anyone who saw your p*ssy would kill themselves" or had to drop a class because you're afraid of being seriously injured? Then you can talk. I don't care if the bullies have bad home lives, that doesn't excuse them being evil little fucks to people who did nothing to them.

175. Ahaha, same. ALso, I'd totally read fan communities to see reactions. Especially after I killed someone off.

155

[identity profile] fenm.livejournal.com 2009-01-08 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
155: You realize that the secret-maker disagrees with the "bullies are just misunderstood" line of thinking, right? Seriously, look at the top of the secret were it says, "Horrible Lessons Hollywood Loves to Teach Kids". They're basically saying, "I'm glad Cracked.com pointed out what a horrible lie this is."

111. I actually do like that show (I am intensely shallow, see, and, well, I find Justin attractive), and I dorkily ship the actors. Shipping them isn't a far cry, so I went and found them all on youtube. XD Thank you.

125. That's my Avatar ship, too. :3 But yeah, I'm not in the fandom. :/

136. Haha, me, too.

102. (completely unrelated to secret) That picture. I like.

109. Worst case scenario, you get Trowa!hair... I love Trowa to death, but I could never get over that weirdo hairstyle.

145. It's funny. My friend told me what the movie was about before we watched it, but I completely forgot and was totally shocked when Dickie was killed. I was heartbroken. I'd been so sure they would live happily ever after. Such a sap I am.

163. It doesn't make you a freak. You aren't as alone as you think you are. Plenty of people enjoy many different types of stories. Don't put so much weight on the instances when someone dislikes a fandom you're in and find the common interests you share instead.

OP: 109

I care about racism. When I see it, I speak up. When I hear about it, I speak up. This was the first real example I had seen that I could understand and put together an argument for racism in casting.

Does that mean I am some self-righteous asshole because it affected my beloved Avatar? No. I've seen the people who care about this issue put together some interesting and valid arguments and it got people to take notice.

So what if it is over a cartoon. People have now taken notice. The fans became outspoken and gave this issue an even louder voice. And they are passionate. And if it inspires change, wonderful. So what if that change came from some passionate Avatar-loving fans. It's the changes that are important. How we get to those changes comes in many ways.

Sometimes it takes something hitting close to home or to something you love to make you speak up. It happens all the time over many issues.

OP, you are so not alone! I did a secret like yours about Kuroshitsuji's Sebastian and Ciel and how I was afraid that I would like shota. I realized I like it more for the character himself than the character being a shota and I still find pretty much all things related to shota gross. You wouldn't get me to read anything from Dr. Ten when she brings the shota stuff in and I still delete any shota chapters if a BL mangaka brings out a compiled volume of their works.

I still not comfortable with it though, I guess it's good in some instances. You don't have to be open about everything.

That said, I like that pairing too after stopping denying myself over it. I guess in part that Honey's 18 and their interaction are adorable.

Now excuse me, I've been on a mini Kaito/Len (from Vocaloid) binge since last night and I'm desperately looking for fics.
