144. I genuinely dislike Lyle's character (mostly due to Sunrise and their crappy handling of him), but I also felt bad for him within that episode. That still doesn't mean it's all right for him to beat Setsuna until his face looks like a piece of meat. A 28-year-old guy walloping a 20-year-old who tried to save his life because he couldn't save his brother's doesn't sit right with me, no matter how much he's grieving.

103: TRUTH, you speak it. It's been a while since I was active in it, but I have never seen any fandom fail harder at canon than FFVII. The sheer amount of NOT GETTING IT and self-perpetuating fanon characterisation was/is staggering.

Ok, I completely understand where you're coming from. But having watched, re-watched, and then re-watched again up to the latest episode of season 6, I feel like I can definitely say he has his moments. (Even Kate would agree!)
I feel like at least part of his playboy asshole routine is a defense mechanism, possibly from his bizarre childhood (mother dressing him up in sailor suits, the whole inheritance thing, etc.) and he is awfully honest about how he can be a dick sometimes, so I have to give him props for that.
He also does have some great lines. Probie-wan Kenobie was pretty fucking hilarious. :D
Yeah, then that leaves the part of him that still is a playboy and an asshole. Everyone has flaws! McGee can be spineless sometimes, so how is much worse when Tony is too much of the opposite? Abby is very easily distracted, Ziva can be a bit insensitive herself, and Gibbs especially can be short-tempered.
And finally, Tony is a good agent. He cares about his team (like when he makes sure McGee and Kate are far enough away from the bomb, he tried to cheer McGee up after he shot someone for the first time, he encourages Ziva to get into film to learn slang, he evens sends Kate flowers though that comedically backfires). He also cared about not wanting to really hurt Jeanne when ending their relationship. He is smart when he has to be, he's definitely a good person on occasion (example: when he saves the girl who was a childhood friend of Kelly's), and let's be honest...
He's pretty damn fine to look at. :D
So that is my WAAAAAAY too tl;dr response for why I find Tony charming. God I love NCIS.

161. I got into SPN half way through the second season...if I'd waited until the uber-angst started, I don't know if I would have been as eager, so I know how you feel. But in hindsight, I'm so glad I kept watching. And as the wank levels have increased in fandom, I've found that I've almost completely drifted away, but just from fandom, not the show itself, which I still love. J2 RPS fandom, however, I'm still into.

169. See above -- maybe you could hold onto your love for SPN (the show itself) by staying out of fandom? Worked for me - I'm so glad they got the 5th season. As others have said, the Merlin fandom will more than likely not stay as easygoing as it is now. Give it a few seasons.

Cynical fandom hag here, but OH JUST YOU WAIT, MERLIN FANDOM!

Once upon a time, Supernatural was the fandom that "just enjoyed their show and actually liked each other" (and just look how far we've come! *hugs my shiny angry fandom*). Once upon a time IN EVERY FANDOM EVER this was the case. If fandom has taught me anything at all, it's that all this has happened before, and all this will happen again.

Nonetheless, you just go right on enjoying your fandom. Seriously. If it makes you happy, then right on. And hey, maybe Merlin will prove the fandom circle-of-life wrong, and keep on truckin, bein' happy and wank free forever. But, because you've caught me on one of my mean, cynical days, I'm gonna say.....PROBABLY NOT.

I was so tempted to write just this. On the one hand, I'm happy they are loving their shiny, happy fandom, and wish them many other days of shiny happiness. On the other hand, I had to laugh, because I remember reading early SPN posts that gloried in how much happier they were than any other fandom. Too funny.

I always feel this perverse need to defend SPN fandom. Sure, it's crazy, and gets into ridiculous and sometimes ugly fights -- on the other hand, it gets into perfectly worthwhile fights over legitimate issues, like the representation of poc, of women, etc. Sometimes complaining about wank is about shutting down important debates people have about issues that matter to them. And SPN fandom is filled with a lot of really awesome people who love their dark and shiny show. So I enjoy it.
