Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
YES.
I cannot agree with this enough.
This is everything i've always HATED about yaoi fandom.
Because they don't even want it.
They just want to be cool...

112. I've never seen those kinds of fans of Dasey. Maybe I'm just looking in all the wrong places, but the ones I know and see in LJ comms seem pretty nice.
120. Don't blame you at all.
137. I'd so totally read it. The benefit of writing it would be just to get it out of your head. That tends to happen to me. I think of stories to write and can't get it out of my head until I write it. But I tend to not post them. Anywho, not to get off topic here, but yeah, I'd so read a fic about them.
150. I'm twenty and I watch it. Hah.
167. Yeah, I kinda agree.

107) Different strokes, different folks? I enjoyed the show well enough the times I've seen it. Some pretty good songs and the characters were really likable. It's not my favorite show ever, but like I said. Hell, my favorite musical ever was on Broadway for about 2 months. XD

126.

[identity profile] distorted-r.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
126. I agree with this, but only in the original anime/movie/whatever. As far as fanfiction and art goes, I'm fine with that because it is fan made and not canon anyway. No one has to look at it or read it. Everyone has their kinks and I encourage everyone to enjoy theirs. It is not fair to piss on other people's parades.

Now, I HATE it when rape or sexual abuse is brushed off in the actual anime or what have you. I think it is the worst possible character developmental screw up someone can make. It down plays the seriousness of the issue and I think the main reason is because the makers are to fucking lazy to research the long-term effects of rape and sexual abuse. So they brush it off, ignore it, or turn into in a fucking joke. Yami no Matsuei is guilty of this and it pisses me off to no end.

I'm the OP of the secret and I am so pleased so many people love Oz too! I only recently got into it!!!

I love your Ryan icon - is that where he's crying when Cyril is being executed?

I think Said and Adebisi would be good because Said could calm Simon down! <3

124. Rorsharch isn't the main character of watchmen.

You're the one being an asshole if you're trying to kick people out of your fandom because you're paranoid that people think you're something that you claim that you aren't.

133. A slash writer who claims to be pro-LGBT and actually writes porn that fetishizes homosexuality for women to get off on?! Alert the news media!

138. Nothing can fuck you up about sex quite as good as media, especially when it's shit you like!

152. You understand that "ridiculous slapstick humour" is a type of comic relief?

162. I like sexless-but-intimate-with-unspoken-romantic-undertones relationships too!

164. As opposed to guys who pretend to be girls online?

And... Sorry to say this, but they're allowed to do whatever they please and who are you to speculate on their reasons for doing so?

164. I'm trans too, OP, but I don't understand your anger. It's the Internet, there will always be people pretending to be something or someone they aren't for any number of reasons. Maybe they're dealing with their own gender confusion. Maybe they feel safer if they don't have to worry about creepy men hitting on them. Maybe their internet persona is their escape from whatever's bugging them in reality.

The fact that yaoi fangirls do it adds a sexual reason to it, sure, but I can't see how it belittles anyone's real struggles.

[identity profile] capsulecorp-tm.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
As am I...I am only scratching my head because I've never run into yaoi fangirls pretending to be boys online.

Unless OP means RP? In which case...wow, total other bag of fish there.

(but I join in giving OP a pat on the back for coming to that scary realization about the self.)

Wow, overload of Joss hate secrets...

I don't really have a strong opinion either way but I don't get all the hate for him.

He seems like the only writer that gets shit all the time. No one really mentions the thousands of other writers and directors on television and the films.

So what if you don't like him? It's not like anyone knows him anyway, all they know are his programs. There are thousands of programs I don't like that doesn't mean there are thousands of writers I don't like. I just don't form an opinion on him.

Either watch the shows or don't. Who the fuck cares what opinion you have on the person behind it?

149 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-03-18 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
As far as I'm concerned, I don't hate Joss as a person. I'm just kinda fed up by how everything he *writes* is acclaimed as the best thing ever happened to popular fiction, while IMO it isn't. Clever dialogues but nothing gorundbreaking in terms of substance, that's how I see it - so I have issues with the works, not the man.

[identity profile] neonstilettos.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, and to the Joss Whedon hater(s): I agree that he's dripping with skeevy race and gender issues, and makes bad shows. That is all.

167

[identity profile] last-archangel.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
THANK YOU SO FUCKING MUCH! I am so THRILLED that I'm not the only one who hates that! Especially with "romantic" fics, when sex is supposed to be on a deeper emotional level. It's ridiculous, rude, disgusting, and, when done completely WRONG, absolutely offensive to the characters and to the creators of whatever fandom is being written about.

I'm not sure I agree. There are people who pretend to be a different gender on the internet for attention, but there are also people who are exploring their gender identity in a safer environment that rl, or how acting within gender conventions can change behavior and how people react to you.

The bottom line: if someone wants to be referred to as a 'he', then I use 'he'.

107. Because it's a fun show with catchy music and endearing, easy-to-relate-to characters? And because people have different tastes than you?

I can't stand Spring Awakening, but I get that other people like it. I can even, vaguely, see their reasons for it. Mileage varies. It's a fact of life.

111. Ahaha. I agree so much. It's been SF/F-ish from the very beginning.

111. THIS! Oh yes, the smoke monster and the miraculous healing seemed completely plausible, but what's this? A button that supposedly saves the world? What the hell kind of show is this?

167. Haha, yes... suddenly everything sounds ridiculous and juvenile, imo. Thanks for killing the serious mood.
