108) Agreed. Can someone explain to me the point?

114) I'm gonna assume you're going for a broad definition of "gay couple". I suppose I can see how lesbians might not bother, but then a lot also do. As for gay males, who are these "matter of fact" couples that don't? IMO, a lot of gay men do as opposed a lot not doing it. No it's not the only thing they can do and no they're not always going to do it but I fail to believe there are all these "gay couples" out there sitting around not doing it. If I'm wrong about this, hey guys, you're missing out ;) Flame away...

118) While I liked the double page spread once the squid had attacked. IMO, I thought it was rather random and thought the way they did it in the movie worked much better.

123) This has to be a troll. Considering most movies are based on some kind of literary text whether a direct adaptation or not, do you read all the source material for every movie you watch?

It's really that difficult for you to imagine a gay man just not liking anal sex?

141: Oh God. Sorry, but the way you phrased that...I've burst out laughing at least seven times while trying to write this. S-splutter.

So if I get addicted to City of Heroes or Warhammer Online, WE STILL TIGHT, right?

(Anonymous) 2009-03-23 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow. I have a similar story. My former best friend introduced me to Sailor Moon, and that's what started me drawing a lot more, watching more anime, reading manga. This was in elementary school. Those times are bitter-sweet for me. How naive I was.

Each time I believed him when he said we were still friends and that he'd keep in touch when he moved. But, I know now that he was just lying each time. I was actually never in his "circle."

I have to thank him for the introduction to many things in my life, but I also want to forget him for everything else, for my troubles with friendships, and never giving me any sort of closure to a childhood friendship I had believed was so close.

113. I feel your pain, OP. To me it sometimes feels like fandom only exists on the East and West coasts and everyone inbetween is SOL. Geography's a bitch.

118. Dude, giant squids are a fandom unto themselves! But yeah, why should a squid have to die on a whim just for world peace? Save the squid!

119. My World of Warcraft characters have backstories and shit, with the end result that my Draenei shaman has kind of a crush on my gnome rogue. Poor guy. ._.

122. Listen to yourself. It's just a game, and yet you look down upon anyone who plays it, no matter how much or how little? Why so serious business?

131. You mourn what you know of a person. When I die, I hope I've managed to touch the hearts of people I've never met.

132. This is the Internet. Nothing is safe. (Also psh there is totally better drawn fanart out there of both of those guys.)

133. Construction paper! Er, that is to say, computers...

135. Everything is cooler in a language you don't understand. This is universal for all languages. Which explains all the Japanese and Russian music on my ipod...

139. Who cares how old you are? Someone's got to carry on the fandom! And finally, Internet fandom osmosis pays off as I can actually identify all those characters, woo.

144. BBC America has the new series occasionally as well (but no classic series, the assholes). Also, This Week In Doctor Who (http://www.gallifreyone.com/thisweek.php) lists all the airtimes for Doctor Who everywhere in the world every week. If you can't get one of the stations listed, you're going to have to go with hunting down online videos, possibly downloading, or resorting to DVDs - hopefully you have a friend, library, or rental place handy, because them fuckers are expensive.

132 OP here. Of course rule 34 applies and of course there is better fanart. My objection is to what constitutes as the rape of Rorschach's character. A completely asexual man with black-and-white world views and disdain and disgust for anything sex related... doing a STRIPTEASE? Being cutesy? Having sex with random characters from other comics?

I'm not fond of Dan x Rorschach but I'll admit at least it's vaguely feasible. But I have a hard time seeing Rorschach getting over his loathing for sexuality.

110. [breaks OP's heart]

149. ... Why would you go into musical theatre if you didn't actually like it? I mean, you're not going to get a lot of money out of it, it's not easy to break into, it's looked down on a bit by the general public... it's not like it's the easiest/best way to get famous, if that's all you want out of it. It seems like the sort of thing that wouldn't be terribly rewarding if you didn't enjoy doing it.

118.,132., 138.

(Anonymous) 2009-03-23 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
118. I don't care about the squid either way and can't stand discussions about it. It's the least important thing in the story. Hell, I think the plot is the least important thing in Watchmen, which was a problem the film ran into when it needed a driving narrative.

132. We do go through this "how can you fangirl X didn't you read/see source material" thing every few months though, don't we? Actually Rorschach doesn't bother me much. Most of the time, when fangirls are chasing the (often totally) evil and/or psychotic flavor of the month, they're characters that give off a "I am going to rape you or kill you, or more likely both" vibe (the Joker, Angelus, Comedian, etc.). Elevator shafts aside, Rorschach would honestly probably just insult and then ignore fangirls. He's at his most vicious against people who hurt women and children, so I doubt he'd rip off some teenybopper fan's face as soon as she looked at him like so many of these characters would. Plus they're all fictional.

138. Oh, god. I just realized I can't think about this movie without thinking about the "The Aristocrats" joke now.

I am right there with you. I wanted to like her. I tried to like her. Sometimes, I did, like when she would actually do stuff that WASN'T "pine over the doctor" she was okay. But 99% of the time she was awful.

The fact that they keep bringing her back just to have her do absolutely nothing of importance beyond spouting corny lines is certainly not helping, either.

109: Kripke is incredible. I hope his next project will be AMAZING.

124: God and religion have been in the show since the very first ep. However, I'm no Castiel fan either. The season almost is over and the character STILL is pointless.

Re: 104, 109, 124

(Anonymous) 2009-03-23 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Religion has been in the show since the first season because of the demonic stuff, but God and especially angels are new (excluding that episode with the dead priest who thought he was an angel)

Yeah, I hope that Castiel will go just like Bela did too.
It's not such a bad character, but come on, he just fits the wallpaper, if you know what I mean :)
Like in 4.16: it was a good episode but loads of things didnt make sense. Castiel's new way of thinking included.

123 -- OH NOES, I HAS LOST THE RESPEKT OF A STRANGERZ.

But seriously, Watchmen fandom is a lose/lose situation if all the wank is actually true. If you happen to have seen the film but don't want to read the novel, then you suck. If you happen to have seen the film and have chosen to read the novel, then you're jumping on the bandwagon.

Oh plssss. I watched the film first and thought it was epic. I read the novel afterwards and thought it was epic. BUT I OBVIOUSLY ONLY LIKED IT FOR THE PRETTY. I'm just such a faker that way.

122 - You fail for assuming that just because someone plays a game, it's their life.

123 - You ought to start judging people based on their personality and actions instead. I read the comic years ago and even I realize that a bunch of papers stapled together isn't the be all end all.

132 - I'm fine with people fangirling over Rorschach, but. . . that is just not right. At all. If you find the character appealing, I don't see why you would take away all the traits that makes him appealing to you in the first place.
