Good Omens 2

No spoilers in this comment, but I would expect spoilers below.

Has anyone watched it, like or dislike? Anyone who was just a casual fan? I was a superfan, but the whole season left me kind of meh. All the other superfans seemed to have loved it.

Very mild spoilers, just in case

(Anonymous) 2023-07-30 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't like s1 much because I found they made so many of the side characters from the book flat-out unbearable. I fucking LOVED this season, as a mild spoiler: I am an angst FIEND so I was FED VERY WELL this season, lmao.

I'm a casual fan and have watched half of season 2 and am enjoying it so far!

Mild spoilers

(Anonymous) 2023-07-30 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched it and really enjoyed it. I liked it better than season one. The final episode gave me so many highs and lows. I was really upset with the final interaction between Crowley and Aziraphale, but I’m halfway through a rewatch of both seasons and it makes sense to me now. I still want a third season though (and a happy ending naturally).

Re: Good Omens 2

(Anonymous) 2023-07-30 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Superfan-- the novel has been my favorite for a long time, Book!Aziraphale is my favorite fictional character ever, s1 I felt was a faithful adaptation and expansion that gave me (nearly) everything I expected or needed while also adding a dash of the new. (yes, the bits with Newt and Anathema were... about what I expected trying to adapt that whole thing to be. Just because it's my favorite novel doesn't mean I love all the bits and characters equally)

I really love s2-- I mean, I'm emotionally DESTROYED and I need Amazon in particular to cave and give writers and actors everything they want so that they can be UN-struck, so that s3 can happen and fix the gaping chasm in my heart, but... I love it, I don't only love things that don't hurt me. The book makes me cry at a couple points just because it's something beautiful that understands what it is to be human even when it explores that through the lens of the *in*human.

Like, first of all, s2 does not drag with nearly as many characters to care less about-- whenever we *do* break from both Crowley and Aziraphale, which is infrequently, it's characters who either affect or reflect their story in some way. And I just really appreciated all the little nods to Terry Pratchett and the bits where you could still feel his influence. I enjoy solo Neil Gaiman endeavors, but Good Omens is NOT that, it's a joint thing, and even with Terry gone, he's so present in Good Omens in these little ways I didn't know I was aching for. Not only the thing like 'seamstress' and CMOT Dibbler's name popping up, but like... moments where characters just feel like Terry characters, too.

Not going to read the other comments because I don't want any more spoilers than I've already seen, but I was trying very carefully to avoid spoilers and then some dick went and spoiled something with no warning. And what I saw makes me not really interested in watching it now, so I'm pissed.

People fucking suck.

SA, no spoilers above ^

I came to ask this exact question

Re: Good Omens 2

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
Mainly watched it because I got spoiled for episode 6 a couple of weeks ago. Didn't like S1 very much apart from Aziraphale/Crowley parts, so I definitely appreciated the focus on them in the second season. That said, to me, the pacing felt off throughout and while I enjoyed the queerness of it all, I needed more material to actually feel invested in the Maggie/Nina matchmaking shenanigans. For example, Nina's off-screen partner with the constant text messaging felt really hollow and off-putting to me. I would've preferred Nina freshly out of a dysfunctional relationship and understandably wary of new connections and the prospect of vulnerability instead.

Loved all the angst at the end. Don't get some people's burning hatred for Aziraphale but you do you, fandom. Looking forward to all the well-plotted fix-it fics that'll bask in the angst and mutual pining of it all.

TL;DR: To me, some parts were off and no, it wasn't perfect. But I saw and respect it as the GO creatives openly embracing a very enthusiastic, queer fandom which, even after all these years, still isn't the norm. Let's hope we'll get that third season and some much more tender physical affection between the two because I have an urgent need.

... but you wouldn't mind if someone else made them for you! As always, including the fandom and full character names is a big help, and I'll try my best to use an appropriate image choice.

Just to clarify - it's my intention to make all the secrets left in this thread, so even if they're not marked claimed, they will be made. I'll monitor this thread until tomorrow's secret post goes up, so feel free to leave your comments until then!

Yours truly,

P.S. Please don't worry if you've submitted a secret and it hasn't been posted yet. I usually post these threads before running out of the previous batch of secrets to get a head start on the next batch.

My least favorite character in Marvel's Secret Invasion was Sam Jackson's crusty old hobo beard. It was just too much ick for me to handle.

I keep forgetting youtubers make "mistakes" just to drive engagement and getting people correcting them. Goddammit though, Townsends, but even though you baited me I will not let you say unchallenged that steak pies are no longer a thing here in Britain. You did that on purpose, though.

My tiktok FYP is now mostly split between women showing off their 'Kens' and their 'jobs' (computer, warehouse, etc), and women complaining that the biggest thing to come out of the Barbie movie (in their spaces) has been the "I'm Just Ken" song blowing up, as well as the aforementioned Ken-job-pushing when the focus of the movie was and should have been Barbie.

I think it's adorable to see all the vague Ken 'jobs' like movie Ken's 'beach' job. I don't think it takes away from all the important messages of the film when after opening night my FYP was filled with discussions about the nuance of the film (as well as it's issues), as well as people using the movie as a litmus test for their relationships if their SO brushes the movie off as 'dumb' and 'misandrist'.

I was reading through some old livejournal posts a few weeks ago, and for some reason way back then, I had the biggest fandom-grudge against Margaret Atwood. I have no recollection why though. Does anybody else know what she might have done about fifteen years back to piss of fantasy fans?

So according to Marvel, Joe Biden is a genocidal madman and the Tories were innocent humans? Did I get the last five minutes of Secret Invasion right? If that wasn't the intended message, then they ought to have paid a bit closer attention to the global situation in their metaphors then. I think I'm done with the MCU now, I really am.

Star Trek Discovery would have been a lot better, and less controversial, if they hadn't included the Burnham was Spock's secret human sister angle. It added nothing to the character, and just created a lot of stupid arguing. And it was still copying an overused fanfic trope. It would have been a more enjoyable show and fandom without all that. I have no idea why they thought it was a good idea in the first place.

I liked the animated version of the Strange New Worlds title sequence from the Lower Decks crossover episode better than the regular one. I like that we can actually see the ship in it. The regular sequence is just too (literally) dark and "real".

After having for the first time the experience of reading a danmei’s human-made translation side-by-side with a machine translation I realize now that my issue with the genre may be the amateur translations much more than the novels themselves.

What the machine translation lacks in poetry and naming accuracy, it delivers in erotic tension. And really, at the end of the day, it’s all I care for.

I just realised, we never got a resolution on Bashir possibly being his own great-grandfather on DS9 in Trials and Tribble-ations. And all I can think of is that if anyone in all of Star Trek was going to blunder into being their own ancestor, Bashir is totally the one it would be.

I'm absolutely terrible at spotting wigs on actors. Whenever people complain about the bad wigs of MCU or GoT or the like, I'm just confused. As far as I can tell it could very well be the actor's own hair.

I wish webcomic artists had the balls to admit it when they're done with their comic. It's sad to lose one of my favourites, but I can understand that sometimes things happen in life that make running a webcomic impossible. I'd much prefer a final update along the lines of "Sorry, I can't continue this anymore because [reasons]" than just having the updates stop abruptly. Or worse, an update after a long hiatus promising that the comic will start updating again at a certain date, but then the date comes and goes without a peep from the author. Just admit this isn't working out for you anymore, please.

Hey, so they're making a sequel to Twister.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's called Twisters and it started filming in May (and halted due to the strike). Apparently, it focuses on Bill and Jo's daughter and it looks like none of the original cast will have any real billing, though I guess there might be cameos. I'm not really sure what to think of it.

Drama Kid Skywalker

(Anonymous) 2023-07-31 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
So, I missed a few days earlier this week and was catching up, and I think the Jedi were too dysfunctional to tolerate theater. They would have been the sort of dicks who would start side-eyeing whoever they cast as the villain if the guy could actually pretend to be dark.

But the comments still made me laugh. Good secret, anon.
