I just get weirded out because the VAs look nothing like the characters. Which... actually isn't very weird at all. But except for respecting them (if they deserve it at least) I don't pay much attention to VAs.

Well, that's not really a great reason for not watching the show, but you don't actually have to have any reason not to watch the show. "I'm not in the mood" or "It's just not grabbing my interest, glad you like it."

That said, it's really your loss. Not only is the show great but the fandom is insanely brilliant. It's got lively active coms and a kink meme bigger and considerably more active than the legendary Phoenix Wright kinkmeme. I don't blame your friends for squeeing like mad things.
