Question for people who use FF.net

When someone reviews or favourites your fic, do you go to their profile to see what sort of stuff they write? Do you also look at what else they've favourited?

I do both, and I'm curious to see how many others do this.

I also sometimes count how many fandoms someone shares with me (based on looking through their favourites), because I find it interesting how some fandoms are more likely to overlap than others. For example, I've found that a lot of Doctor Who fans seem to also like Sherlock. I'm not familiar with either of those shows, and as far as I know they have nothing in common, so it kind of makes me wonder what it is that attracts people to certain fandoms.

_{And now that I've actually written all that down, I realize how dorky it sounds and feel like a total dweeb for being fascinated by stuff like this.}

I do sometimes. Usually I don't care, but sometimes I'll check, to see how much I feel like a fav is "worth." I've gotten favs from a couple people who had over three-thousand (honest to goodness, that number is not made up) fics on their favs list. Which, TBH, made me feel less confident about the fic in question than I otherwise had.

I don't look at their profiles, that way lies madness.

I used to check out their profiles in the beginning, when I was all giddy whenever a favourite notification fell into my inbox. But I was always completely crushed when the person turned out to be one of those long-winded, copy-paste, anti-choice, "97% percent of teenagers would cry if Robert Pattinson would throw himself off of a building. If you're one of the 3% that would yell 'Jump!' copy and paste this into your profile!" kind of people, or their favourites list was thousands of fics long and most of it OOC wish-fulfillment fic.

The thought that MY fic might be nothing more than OOC wish-fulfillment crap would completely cripple me and make it impossible to write for months, so I stopped reading the profiles of reviewers/people who favourite my stuff.

I don't get a whole lot of favs (or authoralerts) so I always do, for each one. It's always fascinating to see what sort of people fav your fic!

Well, someone who likes Who and Sherlock may well just be a British person who watches tv, or a foreigner who really likes British tv.

I always look at what someone who favourites/kudoses me has written (and I'll read anything that looks at all appealing), but I don't go through their favourites. It seems like most people on the Pit just have hundreds and hundreds of favourites and it's basically just a list of all the legible fics they have ever read, so I doubt there'd be much point. I remember when you could only add a maximum of 30 (? or was it 35?) fics to your Favourites list; old fan is old.

And I admit that if they have eleventy-billion favs, but I'm one of the few (or the only) story they've Favorited for that particular fandom, I get the Special snowflake Glow.

I don't check the ones who have read my fics, but as I read through other people's fics I look at the profiles of people who made a good point in their comments. *G*

With my incomplete chapter fics, I always check out what else the person has made a favorite, because I'm interested to see what type of fans those particular fics appeal to (and to try to guess from what else they read what they expect to happen in those stories).

I don't write fic, but I read a lot, and I only fav a small number (I think my fav fics list currently has 20 favorites with 10 different fandoms represented), so I really hope some of those authors have gotten that happy warm glow.

Doctor Who and Sherlock - both made by the same person - Moffat, both British shows, with a super-intelligent but socially-awkward odd-looking male front lead. It's also arguable that Doctor Who in the first place got a lot of its tropes from the original Sherlock Holmes.

Baby cats and baby spiders!

Sup! For this week until Saturday we're going back to the roots of these posts and just going straight for the typical cute, but because I like themes (and they actually make it easier for me to compile pics when I'm looking for something specific rather than just general stuff), we're going with cute babies of various normally cute things. Because I like kittens, you get 12 different types of kittens.

Here are two quick cat facts for you, though. Kittens only normally open their eyes about two weeks or so after birth, and most kittens have deep blue eyes that will usually change colour as they grow up. A general rule of thumb is that if you see a kitten which still has its baby blue eyes, it should probably still be with mom. Also, if you see a tortieshell cat (aka a cat which is brown, white and black), it's very,very likely that she's a girl.

Also with regards to requests- just drop a post on my DW! I won't be getting to it immediately, but you can be sure whatever you want will get a spotlight from me.

I forget all the time how young a lot of my online friends really are.

They're younger than me going off to school and I'm at a community college for another year - let alone working on getting a driver's license because our public transportation is spotty.

I'd almost feel like a failure if this was uncommon in this day and age.

Emma Watson and Fandom Secrets

So last night at work I somehow remembered that Emma Watson had spoken in a magazine about how she didn't know where certain rumors about her college life came to be. One in particular was where she had answered a question correctly and someone shouted, "Ten points to Gryffindor!" She said it was absolutely false.
And I actually recall reading this on Fandom Secrets a few years back when one member told us about a friend of theirs' who was a roommate with Emma. It had been a secret about Emma, I am pretty sure.

So I just wanted to ask, are there any other incidents where something in Fandom Secrets made it somewhere big?

This Emma Watson thing is the only thing I can think of.

Not that they're really worth anything, considering that my sample is teeny and biased as hell, but I collected the data so why not?

Assuming I did the math correctly:

~66.6% of respondents enjoy one or more game shows, ~25% do not like game shows, and ~8.3% were unclear on the concept
~66.6% enjoy watching others play video games in some manner, 33% do not
Phi coefficient is -.125, which is pretty weak

Conclusions- contrary to my suggestion to the anon who hated Legends of the Hidden Temple, there doesn't seem to be much of a link between people's enjoyment of watching others play in game shows and their enjoyment of watching others play video games.

So I read most of the secrets while listening to some film reviews and one of the films that was reviewed was Tintin and one of the reviewers mentioned, almost out of the blue, that Snowy was basically Tintin's daemon, and lo and behold, it was like 6 and 13 met for one weird moment in my head.

Movies you Want to See Made

What movies do you want to see based on your favorite book/tv show/comic/song/whatever? Have you already picked out the cast inside your head? What form do you think would be able to do it the greatest justice (hand drawn animation, CGI, live action, whatever)?

Because lately I've been thinking about how badly I want a Static Shock movie. You have no idea how much geeky joy I get out of trying to figure out the best cast. I'd really like to it be live action, but I also wouldn't say no to a tv-movie spinoff from the show. The only thing that makes me said is that Dwayne McDuffie wouldn't be here to work on it :(

I'd also like to see a live action movie based off the Gay Pirates song by Cosmo Jarvis. At first I thought about it jokingly, but now I'm seriously interested in it
