If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it.

I always get a kick out of this part.

If she is so unattractive, why did she end up getting all these roles?
And please spare me any sexist crap like "she slept with all the directors".

(Anonymous) 2012-11-24 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I tried to think up a really ridiculous portmanteau just for the sake of the experiment and ended up with "Moc" for Marty/Doc. Now I can't stop laughing.

No I haven't, but a recent secret of mine has been considered a troll secret.
I'm not very good at making convincing troll secrets or good troll secrets at all.

Every time this comes up I remember at the time I was thinking "they wouldn't...would they? OH GOD please DON'T!" but for a split second I almost felt they really would do that.

And seeing as the first film was out when I was nine, it would've got me right in the childhood, as they say.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-11-24 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
And that -- the usefulness -- is why I don't judge you. There's an actual functional purpose. It's an increasingly common thing. It doesn't say anything about a person that they use portmanteau ship names, so I don't judge them.

I just RAGE, and then have to go count to ten and take deep breaths and play solitaire until I calm down.

Yes to all of this. People don't watch, say, reality TV for their interesting plots and complex characters. At least Glee has some music to go along with it (although their cover of "Rolling in the Deep" is probably the soundtrack to hell).

Re: Scared anon here

(Anonymous) 2012-11-24 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, on FFn. The number of reviews is slightly bigger, but still trifling.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-24 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's definitely fine to think she's not pretty. I mean, that's basic attraction, typically not something you consciously control. And if someone asked you, I wouldn't expect you to lie. But when people feel the need to assert it, it comes across as mean-spirited. And if people are going to be mean spirited they can at least come up with something more interesting than 'she's ugly', which is what I think of as a 'Mean Girls' insult... just designed to tear someone down, not to actually change anything or spark any discussion. Basically pointless when it comes to celebrities, who aren't even going to be affected by the insults.

TELL HER NEVER

GRAB ALL THOSE FEELINGS AND SQUEEZE THEM INTO A TIGHT BALL AND BURY THEM DEEP DEEP DOWN

YOUR FRIEND WILL VISIT YOU AND BE ALL LIKE

"Oh, [OP], what's wrong? You are trembling!"

AND THEN YOU'LL BE ALL LIKE

"N-no. I'm fine." HERE YOU WILL FORCE A SMILE FOR YOUR FRIEND'S SAKE. "Really," YOU WILL STAMMER. "Hey, let's go do [FUN ACTIVITY YOU AND YOUR FRIEND ENJOY]."

YOUR FRIEND WILL LOOK UNCONVINCED, AND YOU WILL TREMBLE SOME MORE, BEGGING HER WITH YOUR MIND TO PLEASE JUST LET IT GO. PLEASE. OH, PLEASE.

SHE WILL DECIDE TO LET IT GO FOR NOW, BUT WILL DEFINITELY TALK ABOUT IT LATER. FOR YOUR SAKE, SHE WILL TRY TO GO WITH YOUR DISTRACTION, IN THE HOPES THAT IT WILL CHEER YOU UP.

BUT SHE WILL KNOW. SHE WILL KNOW.

IT'LL BE LITTLE THINGS AT FIRST, LIKE A COOL FANART YOU PRINTED AND LEFT LYING AROUND, FORGOTTEN.

A LITTLE SLIP OF THE TONGUE ABOUT LUCY LIU'S KICKASS PERFORMANCE IN THAT RECENT SHOW THAT--OH, NOTHING, NOTHING.

THEN ANOTHER TIME, WHEN YOU FORGOT TO LOG OUT OF YOUR TUMBLR, LEFT TO GO GET A DRINK FOR YOUR FRIEND WHO JUST CAME OVER TO VISIT YOU, AND SHE WILL SEE THE GIFS YOU HAVE REBLOGGED.

SHE WILL SAY NOTHING WHEN YOU COME IN, FOR HER BACK WILL STILL BE TURNED TO THE DOOR.

YOU WILL STOP IN YOUR TRACKS, SEE THE COMPUTER SCREEN, SEE HER, UNABLE TO SEE HER FACE, AND THEN DROP THE DRINK.

SLOWLY, AS IF TIME ITSELF WERE STRETCHING ITSELF OUT, THE GLASS WILL FALL, CENTIMETER BY CENTIMETER, INCH BY INCH, WITH PRECIOUS DROPLETS FLOATING, BEING LEFT BEHIND BY THE UNCARING FORCE OF GRAVITY, BUT FREE, SO SWEETLY FREE AND FLYING FOR THAT PRECIOUS MOMENT.

BUT THE MOMENT WILL BE SHATTERED BY THE CRASH OF A GLASS SHATTERING ON IMPACT AGAINST THE FLOOR.

YOUR FRIEND WILL TURN, STARTLED AT THE SOUND, AND WHEN YOUR GAZES CONNECT, THAT WILL BE IT.

SHE KNOWS.

YOU KNOW THAT SHE KNOWS.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT, THEN, OP?

WHAT?

She's pretty to me. Not extraordinarily beautiful or anything, but that's just my personal opinion. I know it can be hard to not take negative comments to heart, but honestly if its the criticism of KStew that bothers you...a lot of people just hate her period, and it has nothing to do with her looks. (Don't ask me why, though.)

That said, not everyone find her good looking, no, but no one is going to be universally accepted as attractive. It's not worth worrying too much about imo.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Hollywood is not the best judge, especially for women. There are some legitimately ugly men in Hollywood but I have a very, very hard time finding ugly women. Usually, if they need an ugly character, they cast an obese but pretty woman. But she's never actually ugly. The awkward loner girl is always just a step away from being a leading actress. It's ridiculous...

elephantinegrace: (Default)

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2012-11-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably. I'll have to go back and re-watch the episodes (usually my eyes glaze over the second Will's face appears on the screen) but she never struck me as an asexual character, just someone who was extremely sheltered and mysophobic.

[identity profile] tafkarfanfic.livejournal.com 2012-11-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. I've only ever seen one sci fi show vid set to industrial music, and that was years ago. The vid itself was poorly edited (in that the person apparently just decided to play part of an episode and run the music over the actual soundtrack, rather than doing any editing), but the song (Praise the Fallen, by VNV Nation) was such a good fit for the source material that it made the vid way better than it should have been. I would KILL to have someone vid BSG, Stargate, Farscape, Firefly, or Falling Skies to industrial, just to name a few fandoms.

Heck, I think there's even some industrial songs that Doctor Who would go with. Imagine vidding Nine to Wiseblood's Pedal to the Metal! Lyrics like "I'm a one man wrecking gang" and "Two's company, but I'm a crowd" would be a perfect fit. (Too obscure?)

(Anonymous) 2012-11-24 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Aren't you just a winner. Maybe you shouldn't try pretending that listening to industrial that was super ~obscure~ over a decade ago makes you cool?

Because seriously, it doesn't. It's no more original or awesome than a lot of that "more mainstream" music that you so enthusiastically diss.

Get over yourself.

*g* For me, BNF will always before anything else mean Bibliothèque nationale de France.

One semester I took both a course in Linear Algebra and history course on post-WWII Europe, so IMT could be either Invertible Matrix Theorem or International Military Tribunal.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-11-24 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's fine if you don't find her beautiful. I would hesitate to use the word ugly simply because I'm unsure if we use the word the same way. I don't want to confuse the issue with that so I'll just assume you don't think she's pretty. That okay? (Honest question. I don't want to misinterpret you.)

I think it would be okay to talk about her looks if you're in a conversation solely about her looks. You're allowed to have your own opinion. I just think it should be stated respectfully and nicely. But say you're in a conversation about her acting skills and if you suddenly bring up her appearance I'm going to have to wonder why. It has nothing to do with her acting skill.

Also, maybe I just hang out in different places or something because the most I ever see her is here. So, I don't know, I don't understand why seeing her often would give you the right to be mean about her looks. Maybe I'm interpreting what you're saying wrong. You said ragging so to me that sounds like bullying, in a way. But you also said you do it in private? So at least you're conscientious about it.

But mostly, for me, it's less about the opinion and more about two things; how you express that opinion and whether or not that's the sole defining reason for hating on someone.

I understand I may sound a bit convoluted here. Do you understand what I'm trying to say?

What did they do to her hair? It looks so normal and conventionally attractive.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-24 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
From what I remember across most pictures I've seen: she looks sickly, or like a stoner-- her eyes in particular have this not there gaze, her nose is very narrow, most of her features seemed to small for her face which made the entire structure look odd...

It could also just be her styling. I've considered a few famous people ugly, but then they changed hair or make-up styles, which made a big impact (bangs, no bangs, heavy eyeshadow, etc.,). So...*shrugs*

Guy here but, since I've done it with a few parnters, I think it's gonna be different from person to person, like a lot of things.

I do know if you're nervous about it, you almost inevitably don't enjoy it.

But I do also know somebody who could handle it fine but simply derived no pleasure from it. And people who love it but find it very difficult without preparation. I think part of it is the nerves back there, and who has what.

Seems like your one of the ones that can take it easy though so... if you like it, enjoy it!

And ladies... I'm not saying no guy has ever tried "oops slipped" but... that happens easier then you'd think. Honest. (sorry)

Okay, so, for NaNoWriMo, I've been writing about a boy band reuniting, and I'm working on two timelines--the first is the "present", when they're getting everyone together and hashing out the details of their regrouping, and the other is in the past, with their rise and fall. During the past portions I'm going to be talking about them at the height of their fame, complete with screaming, shrieking, crying fans.

What I need, then, are stories about fans doing all manner of ridiculous, silly, crazy things to get to this group. Because while I was a huge fan of some pop groups, I was relatively calm in my fandom. I'm talking stories about sneaking onto tour buses, breaking into hotel rooms, or giving strange presents to the star of their choice. So what's the weirdest/strangest/funniest/most horrifying fangirl story that you know of?
