Fine I have no soul *shrugs*; he was the whiniest of the lot when it came to his regeneration. No one else flailed and cried, they just let it happen.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-27 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
he was the most human doctor... and was is it that humans are most afraid of? Dying. It fitted the character.

nevertheless I wouldn't call his behaviour "whiny"
And I wouldn't change a thing about him.

False.

Humans are most afraid of snakes.

I love snakes. They're awesome.

Lemme get a 'fuck yeah, snakes' for my fellow robots.

It was ... quite a bit too self-indulgent for me. Having watched the doctor regenerate 6 times with it generally taking only a few seconds from fatal incident to completed regeneration, it seemed out of character that 1) the doctor lived so long and was unable to save himself -- I mean, he took about two years to get around to dying. Couldn't he have like, found a healing pod or something and gotten better? And 2) He's done this so many times before, it's not like he's really dying, he's just regenerating. And 3) He never bothers to visit companions he's left, why is he catching up with old companions now? Especially if all he's going to do is gaze sadly at them. It's not as though he had projects to complete. Hell, after he regenerates he'll have all the time in the world to look in on them again.

I blame bad writing. It wasn't the Doctor's farewell, it was RTD saying good bye on screen to all his favorite creations.

There was a GIFset going around Tumblr (I know I know but hear me out) from one of the behind-the-scenes interviews, with Tennant saying he wasn't sure he made his swan song "emotional ENOUGH."

So. Yeah. It could have been WORSE. And was definitely way, way, way, outta line for meshing well with canon. I personally think NuWho is a really cracky, poorly-written fanfic AU. That's the only thing that allows me to retain my sanity in the face of its sheer awfulness.

[personal profile] velvet_mace 2012-12-27 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
Well, hmm, that might the problem, then. If Tennent is so unaware of how much emotion he's pumping into a scene, then that might explain why he is so Shatneresque on occasion.

LOL

mmh... I would be really interested in your opinion about 11's attitude in yesterday's christmas special.

(I haven't watched more than one season of classic who (yet!), but it seemed to me that after all this time, all these companions who probably had a fate a lot worse than Amy and Rory, his decision to never help anyone anymore ever was a bit... overreacting. Your thoughts? Plus he was so immature gosh, it doesn't usually bother me about him but idk I wasn't in the mood I guess)

(Anonymous) 2012-12-27 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Am I ayrt?

I honestly couldn't hack the Christmas special, so I can't comment either way; I'm the nonny upthread who got to the "Those were the days." part and hit the Back button like it was on fire, LOL. Definitely had better things to do with my time.

his decision to never help anyone anymore

Oh, charming, I bet that upped Emo Eleven's face contortions to about a 20 on the Richter Scale ha ha.

I wrote it down below. I consider it to have been a Tennet worthy sulk and I sincerely hope he is over with it and ready to resume having adventures. He at least looked like at the end that he might be, though the grave scene visiting was kind of mark against it. I suppose it's more of a plea than an expectation that he's done being emo 11 and will go back to being the whimsical 11 that I liked.

But, yeah, suffice it to say, I loved everyone except the doctor in that episode. I would have been quite content to have it have simply been the Green lady and her wife who solved the problem.

his decision to never help anyone anymore

Oh pfft. He's just miserable and insecure at the moment because of what happened to Amy and Rory. He'll get over it and laugh at himself for being a tool soon enough. Honestly, as much as his moping is annoying, I'd be waaaaaaaaay more pissed if he wasn't moping after what happened to the Ponds. Because that was kind of a huge deal and a really horrible thing to happen to his best friends, and if he wasn't moping he'd come off as a sociopath.

Of course, if the writers could stand to let the characters be happy, I wouldn't have to choose between "mopey and annoying" and "non-mopey and even more annoying". I could choose "non-mopey and awesome"! See? Wouldn't that be nice?

...wouldn't it?

....I'm waiting....

I completely agree with everything you just said.

That and I didn't realise it was two years before he finally kicked the bucket. Oh my god...

(Anonymous) 2012-12-27 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
The Second Doctor says Hello.

Maybe not 'crying' as such but going out screaming; "NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO." is pretty close to Ten's whimpering.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-27 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
You can't even BEGIN to compare that, Two didn't have a montage moment or anything --- even Four's montage moment was two seconds long, not two years long. And two wasn't OTT emo-tastic either, I think (iirc it's been literally two decades since I watched any of Three's run) he was more ticked off that he'd run out of time for saving the universe.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-27 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
DA

Not to mention the other implications of that scene. It wasn't just a case of the Time Lord's clicking their fingers and having him regenerate with the magic glowy stuff like in the new series. The Doctor is probably screaming because they have to kill him for his body to renew itself! That's pretty dark...Okay, it's not outright stated but it's what my sadistic headcanon wants it to be. :P

But more than that, what is stated is that they don't just force him to regenerate, they take away his knowledge of the TARDIS and of time travel. Imagine forgetting how to drive or swim and not being able to even learn how to do it again. That would make anyone angry.

None of this is helping Ten's "I just don't wanna change my pretty face" tantrum case.

He was being executed and exiled to Earth and had no idea what exactly was going on or what was going to happen to him or if Jamie and Zoe would be okay though. Not really comparable to Ten's situation. Also, Two had only regenerated once so far -- from old age. Ten had regenerated eight times, in many different circumstances.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-27 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Try getting murdered by your own race, forced to regenerate against your own will and being exiled to Earth with no knowledge of who you are (to begin with) or how to travel in Time and Space THEN come back to me and say the Second Doctor's ending was the same. Which it wasn't, it was a very dark ending.
