Silly questions

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Please feel free to use this thread to ask all those silly or stupid or embarrassing or whatever questions you want.

Change the Subject line to reflect your topic!

Yoga

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, here's mine. It's not really embarrassing, it's just so basic and I feel the answer should be obvious but it's not. So, yoga. Are you supposed to do it every single day? And are you supposed to focus on just one pose or is there like a routine? And I keep seeing these yoga blogs talk about focusing on a different pose each month, dose that mean they just do that one pose every day for a month and then move on?

..that was a lot of questions instead of just one. Feel free to answer one or all or any other yoga obvious advice!

my yoga teachers all just let inspiration come to them as the class progresses. Most of what they want us to get out of the class is to be more mindful of yourself and your energy and how you approach the world.

I go to class 3 times a week and see different instructors and all of them say yoga is an individual practice, so basically you do whatever makes you feel comfortable.

Does that help?

Anytime I've done yoga, which isn't a lot but is more than twice, it focuses on a sequence of poses. I can imagine focusing on one or two more heavily for whatever reason, but I've always known yoga as a sequence.

Re: Yoga

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
I do yoga a couple (2-3, depending on time) a week, and other work outs the other days. I do a series of vinyasas and then balance postures. It usually takes about an hour, holding each pose for about five breathes.

Re: Yoga

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
It's not necessary to do it every day, but you can, for example, do some yoga moves every morning to stretch a bit (like the sun salutation). You are usually supposed to do several different poses in a sequence, repeat this sequence a couple of times, and then move on to a different sequence.

It depends on the teacher what kind of poses and sequences they favor, but you can decide yourself which ones you'd like to practice. Do the same ones every month or change them weekly, whatever feels the best.

Is it normal to have some of your toes go numb when you go out for a walk (and it's not even that cold), and for your legs to become red after said walk?

Re: are my legs weird or am i being paranoid

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
... I don't think so. If it's a pins-and-needles sort of feeling, you might be having circulation/nerve pinch issues. Are you diabetic/pre-diabetic/have a family history of diabetes? Circulation issues usually go hand in hand with foot problems.

Either way, it's definitely something to mention to your doctor.

It is for me. Especially the toe thing. Sometimes it's just a matter or re-lacing or re-tying my shoes but sometimes it's just a weird thing my feet do.

Red: if I'm wearing shorts I've noticed that from time to time, yeah. Not an every time thing, but it happens.

Sounds like a circulatory issue. Not necessarily a big deal, but maybe get it checked out and check ways to improve circulation?

Maybe Raynaud's syndrome?

It won't hurt you to get it checked out.

No. It's not. Are you experiencing any swelling? Do you get little red spots on them that won't go away? If you press the skin/flesh around your ankles, does a little indentation remain?

How about your hands? Does the same thing happen with them when the temperature changes?

Since I was a kid, I've sometimes gotten mild but persistent muscle cramps in my thighs and calves and sometimes forearms that go away if I drink milk. I've always kind of wondered if this is an actual thing or if I'm just placebo-ing myself.

Tim Hortons

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Is this a thing in countries other than Canada?

Re: Tim Hortons

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Yes for the US, but I think it's mostly limited to states nearby Canada. Maine used to have more Tim Hortons but DunkinDonuts has slowly been pushing them out. Where I lived in NY (west of Rochester) it was always easy to find a Tim Hortons.

Downton Abbey

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Was the older gentleman who seems to be into Isobel the same person as the older gentleman hitting on Shirley MacLaine or were those two different people?

(On the same topic, why couldn't they have given Mary's two suitors different hair colors? I can tell their faces apart, but the names aren't sinking in and I can never remember which is which. I sit there wondering "Is this the guy with the rapist valet or the other dude?" until somebody gives some exposition.)

Exactly how unusual is it for a man to pee sitting down? Is it, like, on the level of "a little odd but not too remarkable", or is it more along the lines of "almost completely unheard of"? If you were in a public restroom, would you notice if another man seemed to be peeing sitting down in a stall and think it was weird, or would you not even pay attention?

ladies and body hair

(Anonymous) 2014-02-26 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
Is it normal for you to get more or for your body hair to get darker as you get older? It seems like since I've hit 25 my body hair has gotten much more noticeable. Upper lip has gotten darker and seems like more, I've got dark hairs on my chin/jawline, and where I had a slight 'happy trail' before I've got full on hair. Is this weird?
