MIURA KENTAROU/NIGHTOW YASUHIRO OTP ~_^ Yes, cracky, but oh man both have the same issues. Though I gave up on the Trigun fandom recently since it's dead and even if it wasn't, it's just not a good fandom for yaoi fans anymore.

Not commenting on the yaoi secrets. If I do, I could go on forever about how it annoys me that people have to make it so clear they hate yaoi. Why can't they find fandoms that don't have it? It's not like there's a dearth of het canons where the fans write mostly het.

27: A theory on all the recent yaoi posts

1) There seem to be many comments in response to 27 saying "If you don't like it, don't read it".

The people who posted said comments seem to me to be assuming that the OP is referring only to fic when they say yaoi is eating fandom alive. But just look at tonight's secret post.

I counted 18 secrets, at least, that deal with or mention ships of any sort. Of those 18, 12 are clearly homosexual in nature and 3 are clearly het (of the remaining, 2 were "maybes", as in maybe referring to a ship or maybe a friendship, and 1 was incest but didn't specify the gender of those in the pairing). So, in this secret post alone, the homosexual pairings (slash, yaoi, and yuri) outnumber the het posts 4 to 1. And, just for the sake of argument let's assume that those 2 "maybes" are actually gens, they outnumber the gens 6 to 1.

So, according to the "Don't like it, don't read it" philosophy, does this mean the OP, because they don't like yaoi, should run away from Fandom!secrets never to return? Of course not, that's silly. On the flip side, should all the slash shippers stop posting yaoi secrets just because the gen and het fans are getting upset? That too is also silly. Nobody is forcing the het and gen fans to read the yaoi secrets - I'm sure most people's "scroll" button works just as well as mine.

BUT can you not see where, from the OP's POV, it might appear as though yaoi is "eating fandom"?

Personally, I think a lot of yaoi-bashing secrets have been popping up lately because both sides are digging in their heels instead of trying to see the other side. I think a lot of the "I hate yaoi" secrets are coming from het or gen fans who are feeling frustrated and just want to have their feelings acknowledged.

Yes, some of the secrets could be worded a bit better, but I think that one way to look at them is: "Look, I'm a het and/or gen fan. I realize there are a lot of yaoi/slash/yuri fans out there. Great. Whatever you like, you like. Sometimes though, it gets a little frustrating as a het and/or gen fan. I had a run in with A (as in one) batshit yaoi fan-girl once and sometimes it seems to me as though the yaoi is everywhere/I'm bashed for liking het/the internet is just for porn, even if that is not actually the case. But I need to blow off some steam from time to time. Thanks for listening."

If, instead or saying "I'm a yaoi fan and I'm not like that! Self-entitled bitch GTFO!" the yaoi/slash fans said "Hmmmm well I like what I like, and nothing is going to change that, but I can see where it might appear to you at times to be nothing but slash/all about the porn. Get it out of your system. I'm might not agree with you though" then we might have fewer yaoi-bashing posts.

18. Interesting... I think I understand what you are trying to say. I can admit that Delphi's ideals were fascinating and I can kinda agree but their methods were brash and horrible. The virus' they made and the way they created that virus was dreadful.

I don't think Second Opinion went into what Under the Knife did.

You know it really depends on what fandom you fall in whether it is slash heavy, of the fandoms that I am active in, none of them is particularly slash heavy, in fact one has a moderate slash following, but nothing zealous or overpowering, the other had one when it was more active, but still the majority of the fic produced was het, the other one had an extremely subtexty relationship between two male characters, but still most of the fandom is focused on the het couples from the series. So really it is a fandom by fandom basis.

The thing is there isn't really anything you can do about it, people are going to write/read what they like, and in some fandoms what most people prefer is slash. It sucks sometimes to see nothing else, but there are avenues to find more of what you like.

37. Eh, I never really participate at FW, even though I have an account, I still mainly lurk. I watch it mainly to keep in touch with what is going on I mean how else would I have learned of the stupidity that was RDR books?

Please please please get off the goddamn couch and do something. If you're still in high school, do your best, wait it out, and THEN get off the goddamn couch and do something.

You don't have sparklywarkly magical powers, but you can get out, travel the world - if you don't have the money, work your ass off until you have it - volunteer, start a movement, join the fucking Peace Corps if you want. There is a world full of interesting experiences out there that you are MISSING because you're too busy sitting in your room, watching anime or playing video games and feeling sorry for yourself because you don't have a big sword and pointy hair. You can have adventure. It just isn't going to beat down your bedroom door. You have to go out and get it yourself.

The solution is very simple, yet very difficult: if there's not enough of it, make it yourself.
I know, I know, I hate that answer too, I'm a complete lazy ass who doesn't lift a finger for fandom, but it's the truth. I hate having to scroll down past all of these anime/manga secrets to get to something I'm actually interested in, but do I make secrets about fandoms I like or comment on them? No, so how could I complain about people doing exactly what I should be doing?
You can bet that in every slash heavy fandom, there's a ton of people who don't really enjoy and they're just waiting for someone to start something they can follow, so why not? If youl build it, they will come.

12 - HAH. That is fucking brilliant timing. I have spent hours today reading all the DGM/FMA wank, and I am thoroughly entertained at what an ass spanking ASG and Sutlers are getting. Fuck them. I could never stand ASG's FMA fic, and although I generally liked Sutlers' efforts they weren't exactly mem-worthy.

They've gone from being mediocre FMA writers to 'big shit' DGM writers. You guys got so fucked over.
