(I write slash almost exclusively in all my other fandoms, I just... I can't see it there at all.)

Not even when they are self contained to their own movies? I don't like the Avengers ships at all but I like Steve/Sam, Steve/Bucky, Tony/Rhodey, etc.

Zutara. I left a similar comment in the secret 4 thread, but all I can get out of it is it's the pretty girl gets the hot dorky 'bad' boy trope that people like? Like, they hardly even interact in canon.

I don't say you have to like it but I'm surprised that you don't get it. They have a very standard enemies-to-friends dynamic, which is easy to make into an enemies-to-lovers dynamic.

And they do interact. I don't know what your benchmark is for the number of times that characters have to interact but just their interactions in Ba Sing Se, the episode where they hunt down her mom's killer, and the finale is a lot of really good interaction between them. It's a lot of development of their relationship. I'm not surprised that they would be popular. (Not surprised by Aang/Katara either.)

I want to apologies in advance if there are terrible grammar mistakes I miss here. I'm on the old laptop my mom gave me while riding my exercise bike.

Honestly Harry/Hermione. I was just such a brother/sister relationship to me all the way through the books I could never see them as a romantic pair. The thing that really cemented it for me was how bored Harry was when he was fighting with Ron, and it was just him and Hermione hanging out together.

Ron/Hermione. Any pairing that revolves around bickering that makes the characters miserable. It works with Han and Leia because they actually seem to enjoy bickering and they stop once they admit their feelings. But most of the time I just don't get why the characters would want to be together when they make themselves so miserable.

Snape/any Gryffindor. Who wants to date their bully? Actually the same goes for Draco/Gryffindor.

Feanor/Fingolfin. This is actually a thing in the fandom. And nope. Not only are they brothers but they hate each other.

Buffy/Giles. They see each other as father an daughter.

- FrostIron (Mostly because Loki is always characterized terribly in the fic.)
- MCU!Stony (Not 616!Stony, which makes perfect sense to me.)
- reboot!Spirk (Not TOS!Spirk, which makes EXTREMELY perfect sense to me.)
- Buffy/Giles (Because he's like a father to her. It squicks me.)
- Skye/Ward (WHY)
- literally any other ship that involves Ward (WHYYYYYYYY?!)
- Clint/Coulson (This is the most boring ship, I do not see the appeal at all.)
- Batman/Wonder Woman (It's not that I don't get it, it's just that I prefer them as friends. Same with Batman/Superman and Superman/Wonder Woman.)
- Spideypool ('Cause if you're gonna slash Deadpool with someone, it should be Cable goddamnit. Or Bob the HYDRA Agent.)
- Spamano (Basically for the same reason as Buffy/Giles.)

Sara/Gil

I can get a lot of relationships but I don't understand the appeal of this and I certainly don't understand it's popularity. Sara and GIl are such different people but not in an opposites-attract kind of way. She came off a little bit stalkerish to me. He didn't seem to notice her in a romantic way (not like he noticed Lady Heather), and looked a little boxed in when she pushes the issue. She never seemed to see or understand his way of thinking, and never seemed to try.

They felt like the things they wanted were kind of at opposition with each other. They never worked for me as a couple.

From the perspective of someone who has only seen the new movies, Spock/Kirk.

Natasha/Steve. They are such good friends who have no sexual chemistry.

Batman/Robin (any Robin)

I just see it as a father/son relationship. Maybe I haven't read the right comics (or I've just read the wrong ones, i.e. lots of old ones where Dick was super young) and I think I might headcanon Bruce as older than he's supposed to be.

... I want to say the two big RotG ships, Jack/Pitch and Jack/Bunny, but I actually do get those. Jack/Pitch is hero/villain with very similar tragic issues in their backstories and a bunch of 'we can rule together', rejection and betrayal-related anger in the present, while Jack/Bunny is woobie!hero/antagonistic!lancer where the lancer initially distrusts and dislikes the hero and then the hero selflessly saves his existence and they're friends. So. I get them. I still find it really weird that they so completely dominate the fandom. Especially Jack/Bunny, on the grounds of giant blue Australian rabbit. That does ... weird me out a touch.

IDK mainly because it's EVERYWHERE. (Even the creator of the show ships it.)

Weirdly enough I like it when it's genderswapped? Try and explain that one.

Since my philosophy is that the best ship is a crack ship, I really don't get a lot of canon ships, especially when the canon relationships are limp and lackluster. But ship and let ship.

Then there are the ships that seem to put the "fanatic" back into "fan." Destiel, Swan Queen, that Teen Wolf thing that kept getting onto my dash, Anders, the DA:I Cassandra wank, (but then again, Bioware has been shit since Indoctrination Theory).

Legolas/Aragorn. Okay okay okay I realise that it's probably because the movies upped their convos or something? And also I'm sore about Legolas/Gimli not getting that mega love, fanwork, doujinshi supply.

Captain Swan. Yeah, they're both pretty. But the hardcore fans are obsessed with how beautiful their love is and how he changed for her and how she finally learned to trust again, and I'm just cringing because he flat out admitted he's only behaving to 'win' Emma, who's OOC now because she was champion of the little guys and took no shit, and now she 'doesn't want to know about his past' because then she'd have to admit he's a bullying creep. And I don't even ship Emma with anyone except in a desperate 'for fuck's sake, anyone but Hook' way.

Vincent and Yuffie from FF7. It's pretty much a case of 'pair the spares', but for me, I always got a 'broody goth big brother and annoying-yet-well-meaning kid sister' vibe from them in 'Dirge of Cerberus'. Also, while I don't mind some age differences... that's a bit too big of an age difference for my liking, honestly.

Auron and Rikku from FF10 for about the same reasons, though at the time, I suspected it was more or less people using a 'free' character to project themselves onto or something (since Tidus/Yuna and Wakka/Lulu was clear endgame), I dunno.

Kíli/Tauriel. It was terribly done, too melodramatic and made otherwise good characters turn flat.

Of course I already had a ship for Kíli before I went to see DoS, so I was going "Didn't happen! Didn't happen!" inside my head through it and the first thing I did after was to propose to my RP partner a plot where Kíli has my Silmaril character when he goes on the quest.

I also don't like any Thranduil/Dwarf pairings as I feel the hard feelings on both sides are too much to get through.
