I was reading about a horrific crime, and someone purporting to be the victim's father commented.

Am I the only one who is always dubious when that happens? Not to be cold, but... I feel like if your kid/sibling/etc. was harmed or killed, the last thing you'd do would be go on the internet and read the comments.

Has anyone commented on a crime or other news story that's affected them before?

The only time I'm not dubious about a commenter being related to the article is on Cracked, where 90% of the 'personal experience' articles come from forum members anyway.

I don't know how I would react. It's such an unthinkable, fucked up situation that I imagine people might resort to strange coping mechanisms.

idk i wouldnt write it off completely. i cant really see myself doing that, like going onnews articles about it & stuff but other ppl might. i can kinda see myself reading the articles themselves but i wouldnt wanna put myself thru the comments section

when my cousin died of an overdose i would see every comment left on his timeline in my own feed and i really had to resist telling his shitty friends that they enabled and encouraged him so i can see other people not holding back

I saw a thread on TV Tropes once where one of the forum regulars linked an article about a suicide-by-cop and claimed it was his father. He was pretty distraught, and I guess he considered the other posters friends he could lean on.

I did leave a pretty cold comment on the local paper's website.

I had politely asked them to only publish facts if they have to publish anything at all and keep it short. I also suggested they don't contact me again.

Apparently this pissed off the baby reporter and I made the front page and a double spread inside the saturday paper.

It was an epic sob story about my sad family, and how my mum died (but for some reason the same paper that has an archive copy of her obituary got the year she died wrong), and about how devastated I am in particular.

I commented with fact corrections, under my real name.

I dunno, people can do some weird stuff while grieving. I give them a pass unless they're endangering themselves or someone else.

Today my brother called me his brother for the first time, after spending a good while referring to me as his sibling to keep from saying sister. It's a big thing for me.

So over winter due to heating psoriasis has flared up on my eyelids and it's been so painful, been managing it with aloe and paw paw well enough but the heater has been winning.

Got some sigmacort 1% from the chemist and the relief was immediate. It's still red and puffy but the soreness and ichyness has eased so I'm not running as much. I want to put more on but I will obey the instructions and wait till tonight but Ohmygod the relief.

When was the last time you felt incredibly relieved over something?

High School Reunion

So my high school reunion is coming up and I'm undecided about going. I haven't spoken to these people in years and I do keep in touch with most of the ones I wanted to since I graduated. There's maybe 5-10 people that moved away that I would like to see, but otherwise, I'm not sure I really want to go.

For those who did go to their high school reunions, did you think it was worth going? Your impressions?

Anyone ever feel like the only way to catch up on homework is to stay up all night for one day and get everything done? It sounds stupid because if I do something a little at a time I can get it all done when it's due, but it sure doesn't feel that way. I'm just used to procrastinating but I am trying to stay on top of everything so I don't have to rush last minute.

An 11-year-old boy in Tennessee shot and killed his next door neighbor, an 8-year-old girl, over an argument about a puppy Saturday, police said.

The young killer, a fifth-grade student at White Pine Elementary School, used his father’s 12-gauge shotgun to fire at Maykayla Dyer from inside his home around 7:30 p.m., WBIR reported.

The little girl, a third-grader at the same school, was hit in the chest and died in a hospital, police said.

Neighbors said the senseless shooting was sparked by the girl innocently declining to let the boy play with her dog.

“Wanting to see a puppy, the little girl laughed and told him no...and that was it,” neighbor Chasity Arwood told WBIR.

Jefferson County Sheriff G.W. (Bud) McCoig told the Daily News the shooting is one of the saddest crimes he has handled in 34 years of law enforcement.

"This one has really taken a toll," he said. "It's just an awful thing."

The boy, who has not been identified, was charged with first-degree murder in juvenile court,

He remains in custody, and a judge will decided whether to send the case to adult court.

The boy took the shotgun out of a closet, where it was kept unlocked, McCoig said. His father, who obtained the weapon legally, has not been charged, McCoig said. The only other firearm in the home is a BB gun.

The father told police he had taken the boy out hunting several times, McCoig said.

The young gunman is one of six siblings, who range in age from 8 to 12. The family has not had any "major issues" with the law, McCoig said.

The girl’s shattered mother, Latasha Dyer, told WATE this wasn’t the first time her daughter had trouble with the boy who would be her killer.

“When we first moved to White Pine, the little boy was bullying Maykayla,” she said.

“He was making fun of her, calling her names, just being mean to her. I had to go the principal about him and he quit for a while, and then all of a sudden yesterday he shot her.”
