What famous people do you suspect of lying about their age? Or lying about something else?

I am not good at telling ages by looking at someone, so this is never something I've thought about a celebrity.

I strongly believe and have for a long time that Andruw Jones is 2 or 3 years older than he claims, and I also feel like that would actually improve his Hall of Fame chances.

To elaborate a little: people lying about their ages is not unheard of in baseball, especially for players coming from the Caribbean. There's a strong incentive to do it, because you will seem more 'advanced' for your age by saying you're younger than you are, making it easier to attract scouts.

It particularly makes sense in Jones' case because his career was essentially marked by (A) playing incredibly well out of the gate as a young rookie and (B) completely falling apart after the age of 30. But, if instead of being a great rookie at 19 and done at 30, he's a great rookie at 22 and done at 33, that looks much more like a normal baseball aging curve. And it also helps his HOF case (which I am a strong booster of) because one of the problems he have is that he 'burned out early' - which is kind of true, but it balances out because he started early, which people forget. So if you actually have him playing till 33, that effect looks much less pronounced.

In conclusion, please support Andruw Jones for the Hall of Fame.

Real life experience has taught me that there's actually no such thing as looking a certain age. I'm lucky nobody has accused me of lying about my age in an accusative way, but I'm never believed when I tell people how old I am; they're always certain I'm actually 10-15 years younger. I have friends my age who get the same and other friends my age who always get mistaken for being older. People think my mom is the same age as me. My friend who's a middle school teacher has people thinking her students are her classmates. So unless you have gray hair and wrinkles and say you're 13 or something, there's no way I'm going to tell you're lying.

Lol this reminds me of this one Youtube makeup star who was the definition of fake from a few years back. I remember reading about the drama on Japanese forms - this girl in question apparently landed a modelling contract in Japan. The problem was, her videos are all photoshopped (yeah, apparently you can do that if you have a lot of time on your hands). Her real face looked nothing like her shopped face (which was super manga, with big eyes and a skinny face). She also lied about her age for years, and said she was 14-16 and was actually like twenty two or something. I can't remember her name, but she appeared live on a Japanese talk show and looked really different, and even Japanese users were spreading the video, and apparently her mom repeatedly reported the videos and tried to have them all taken down.

It was really insane and hilarious, especially since the woman in question was a total asshole.

Long fic or Short fic

For a fic exchange (like Yuletide), would you rather get a long fic or a short fic for a gift (assuming quality is equal)? Do you have any expectations/biases/assumptions when it comes to the length of your fic? (i.e. character study is more likely short, case-fic is long, etc.) How do your assumptions affect your desire for long/short fic?

I used to blog a lot back in the LJ days - basically throughout my teens and early twenties, but I haven't done it regularly for a few years now. I'm thinking about starting a new blog, preferably one that's a bit more professional (trying to make my name as a writer, so yeah). What's the best platform? What ones have you guys tried, and do you like it?

Crushing on/falling for fictional characters

I don't get it.

I mean, there are certainly characters that I like more than others, adore seeing and always want to see more of. I feel emotions for the plight of said characters.

But this is the second day in a row where I've seen secrets talking about having a crush (OK, Mozart isn't fictional, but he's so far removed that reactions may as well be based not on the man but on perceived persona) or literally "falling for" characters and I don't know what that means.

Are people being literal when they say that? Or are they being metaphorical, and feel the same way about characters that I do? Is it just because I've never "fallen for" anyone in real life and my crushes have been short, few and far between that this makes sense? And I gotta say, I know there's nothing *wrong* with me, but seeing so many people use this language in ways I don't get makes me feel like there is.

Things you wish were cheaper

I need a cut/color but hair salons are expensive! I certainly don't think hairdressers are overpaid or anything, but $70 or whatever is a lot of money to drop. I have long hair so dying it usually costs extra... But now I have bad roots and a lot of split ends. I am really tempted to just have my sister cut it and buy new dye from the drug store, but they always tell you how bad that is for your hair and whatnot.

What expenses do you wish you didn't have to pay for? Or when you do pay for them, you can't help but think of how much money it is?
