Hey, does anyone else remember a thing they did back in the 1980s and 1970s with kids books where you got an abridged version of the story in a booklet, but got a fuller version on audio cassette which had sound effects and such? I'm looking for a specific one.

It was a family that had gone to settle on an alien planet and the natives there started worshiping one of their kids and immolating themselves in a giant fire because the family wouldn't let the kid come out and play. And there was something about a giant space monster too.

Anyone know what that was?

I'm one of, like, a dozen people who loved the first game. Yeah, it needed some polish, and had some downer bits, but I liked it.

And don't get me wrong, this game is fun, and I am enjoying playing it, but can someone please tell me: Am I supposed to hate the living guts out of the heroes?

Cause I hate the living guts out of them. They are every stereotype if the worst of millennial tumblrites.

Self important, self righteous, hypocritical fucking bullies. We're supposed to hate them, right? Cause, like, I could be totally on board with them if they were just a bunch of people doing fun stuff for fun, and didn't care about anything least of all the consequences, shit Saints Row was super fun with that exact premise, or if they were meant to be anti heroes only looking out for their own goals, Can't fault Aiden Pierce fr that. Made me care about his quest even if I found him to be a bit too brooding, but the "We're the moral superheroes who decide who the bad guys are then punish them" schtick is intolerable. Everything fun I do in this game I resent doing because of their bullshit.

Fun mechanics, tho. And San Francisco's always a delight.

There's a lot of play-fighting, but never with intent to harm. Boris could easily knock little Hotspur across the room but he just holds him down with the kitty equivalent of an eyeroll: "Kids these days...!" Hotspur initiates the wrestling 90% of the time.

I always find this week--the week between Christmas and New year's--to be kinda off, you know? Some people have to work and some are off until next week, some stores have unusual hours, it feels like a holiday but. It exactly, the days sort of blend into each other, my sense of timing is slightly off (I think it's Tuesday when it's Wednesday, it feels like bedtime but is only 7:30, and so on). Do you feel similarly, FS???

So here's the deal...I will not be able to read the book on time because of USPS and RL. I may try to buy it again but the copy I ordered a month ago is lost. (Anyone have an online source??) I am very annoyed but it is what it is.

Options:

Host a discussion anyway, and anyone who read it can participate, or

Have two discussions at the end of January, both the January and December books, or

Push everything back and do this book for January, the January book for February, and start the polls again for March.

I think I've had one vote for the third option but I'm not 100% sure if that's what the anon meant. They were kinda mad :(

What are your thoughts?

I like the idea of pushing everything back a month because I'd love to participate in a discussion about Practical Demon Keeping but it's been years since I read it and I haven't had a chance to read anything at all this month. December is always my busiest month of the year :( But I could totally join the discussion if we have it at the end of January!
