Avengers Advice

[personal profile] type_wild 2017-11-05 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
With no previous knowledge of the Marvel films or comics, I saw Thor: Ragnarok because it got good reviews and I wanted a popcorn flick. I ended up being surprisingly curious about what the entire deal with Loki was, and why deny it: I've exhausted my current fandom for fic.

So: Which Marvel films should I definitely see to catch up with the fandom, and is there any must-read fic around?

Re: Avengers Advice

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
If you are just interested in Loki, all the Thor movies and the first Avengers.

If you are interested in the whole fandom: Iron Man, Thor, Captain America: The First Avengers, Avengers, Iron Man 3, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avenger: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War.

The first three set up most of the characters for Avengers. You can watch Thor: The Dark World but nothing that happens in it really matters to the rest of the world. Same with Iron Man 2. Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, and Doctor Strange are not really all that connected.

Characters you should hate but love

(BONUS POINTS FOR FIC RECS)

I recently started watching TWD, and I realize I would greatly dislike Negan if I didn't find him physically attractive/ funny. Sort of funny.

Who should you hate but damn it if you can't find it in you to do so?

Question about weight loss and breast size.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots of background information, sorry.

Back when I was a teenager, I was fairly slender, but had a nice C-cup. Then after college, life and genetics caught up with me and I steadily gained weight (and also cup size). I knew I was overweight, but I was somewhat active and wasn’t really that concerned about it. That is, until several years ago, when I was getting ready to take a trip and was weighing my luggage by stepping on the scale with my luggage and then without and I did a double take at the scale reading. So I figured out how many calories I was consuming (way, way too much) and cut it down to 2000 while still maintaining the exercise that I had started a few years before. I lost weight steadily for a little over a year, then plateaued, cut my calories down to 1600 for a few months until I was satisfied with my weight, then went back up to 1900. All told, I lost 85 pounds and have a nice average BMI (I know it’s not perfect, but I’m active not athletic, slightly taller than average, and white, so I figured it’d work okay for me). I also lost several cup sizes and went down to a B-cup, which took a little to get used to but it had it’s advantages. Now, I still keep track of my calories and have maintained my weight for over five years. But in the last couple of months, my breasts seem to have gotten bigger (both fuller and heavier), though I haven’t gained weight. It could just be hormonal, but if not, I’m wondering if my body is finding an equilibrium that it once had or if my body fat is going to just randomly redistribute itself as I get older. Anybody have any experience or insights to offer?

How does one "do" AO3?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-06 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I used to post on ff.net YEARS ago, haven't written any fic in a while but have been thinking of starting up again and I'd like to do it on AO3 instead (and possibly also post the better of my old fic there as well.) Apparently there is something to do with invitations if you want to post? Also, is it noticeably different in terms of general use from ff.net? I have been out of the fic loop for a while so the sum total of my knowledge of AO3 is that it's supposed to be the place where the "good" fic writers hang out.
