105. I was with you right up until you got to the part about "it's a kid's movie, get over it".

Why should children's movies be exempt from criticism just because they're for kids? Why isn't it important for kids' movies to have good plots and good writing? Yes, they're for children, whose brains are still developing, so they may not have a full appreciation yet, but you don't get good crops if you don't plant the seeds. "It's a kid's movie" is not an excuse for a movie - ANY movie, I've never seen the one in the secret and thus can't speak for it - to be lazily written, plotted, or executed. Not everything needs to be OMG top quality, because a significant percentage of everything sucks, but children's movies should not be exempt from critique just because they're for kids.

I am totally with you on having a childhood favorite regardless of quality, and more power to you. I totally understand that you don't like to see it criticized. But DON'T tell people to "get over it" just because "it's a kid's movie". You sell your own favorite movie short that way - if you think it shouldn't be critiqued, then you're implying it's not worthy of any discussion.

151. Oooh that trilogy made me rage so much too. What kills me is that I liked the characters (for the most part, and especially Q'arlynd) and I didn't mind parts of the story. But what was done with the pantheon, and especially Eillistraee and Vaeraun, just annoys the crap out of me.

On one hand, I can sort of understand them wanting to go back to drow being evil songs of bitches no matter what, what with fourth edition and all, but they had to go off two of my favorite deities in a massive display of out of character actions and leaps of faith. Topped with Halisstra being turned into less of a tortured undead demon-thing and more of a blathering idiot with way too much power for her own good.

It pisses me off almost as much as Marvel's massive House of M retcon did. I say almost because House of M made me throw up my hands and just give up on Marvel altogether, but... I've already gotten a little too ranty for a comment, I think XD

Yeah-up. I think it's on her website, where she answers FAQ, and somebody asked about Marietta. Rowling said eventually the zits went away, but the scars stayed forever, because she can't stand a traitor (nevermind that Marietta was the only one of Cho's friends to stick with her during the roughest time of her life, and that she joined a dangerously sooper sekrit club run by a guy half the Wizarding World thought was crazy, just so she could keep an eye on said friend, who was vulnerable at the time, and that her mother was in the MoM, therefore directly in Umbridge's power, and both were leaning on her hard... No, apparently, everyone has to be strong like a Gryffindor).

I'm still pissed about it.

mostly all if not all the direct to video Disney movie sequels suck.

I'm generally a het fan. I really like a lot more het ships than slash or yaoi. And I've never had trouble finding good het fic when I've wanted it. In any fandom. Including GW which is notoriously full of rabid yaoi fans.

Also if we're only allowed to like a pairing because it's canonly possible and obvious and has lots of chemistry and conflict, then by that reasoning...I have to start liking SasuNaru. And...I really can't. I'm just not interested in the ship. Objectively I know it has lots of potential. But I'm just not interested in them sexing each other or being romantic with each other or whatever. Same for NaruSaku, since we're talking about het ships. I'm not overlooking either pairing. I'm just not interested.

I think it's the same for most other fans. They're going to read and write what they're interested in. And if they're not reading and writing an obscure slash pairing, that doesn't mean they'll read and write what you're interested in. Because it probably doesn't interest them as much as it does you.

105: We-ll, I loved some seriously awful things as a kid (and a teenager for that matter). Sometimes you just have to accept that at certain stages in your life you didn't have a single shred of taste.

107: I dislike them mainly because they're a technique to invalidate anything a person has to say. Someone should invent a law like Goodwin's or Snacky's; as soon as someone uses any of these words in a discussion they should immediately lose the argument.

118: I tend to cry more over fiction than real life, but that doesn't mean I feel more strongly about the fiction. Usually the fiction is just sinmpler, and effects a simpler reaction.

Yeah, because that happens so often, doesn't it...

But that aside; there aren't such a thing as a "better" pairing. Sure, there are pairings with more or less support in canon, but that generally has little to do with the tastes of the fans. Taste is not goverened by reason, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Because basically this is an issue I struggle with. I'm pretty clever so it's easy for me to say mean things that people applaud. It is one of the hottest things ever. Personally, I think the Japanese version is one hell of a lot hotter, but the dub one is excellent too. I was worried about the dub mostly because I wasn't sure if Light's voice actor could do the laugh justice. (And because I wasn't sure how Mikami's actor would handle the sakujo/delete sequences.) But I was not disappointed.

While I was like "Oh yay, someone else liked my icon," I was also kinda like "... that was my icon!
