124 - Don't feel like a freak, I'm sort of like that as well. :D I don't mind outright BL (even though I'm mostly in it for the fanworks), but nothing turns me off a show faster than blatant pandering (and not only to BL fangirls for that matter) without a healthy dose of self-irony. "Passionate Male Friendship" (note the irony)? Sure, I can't get enough of it! But only as long as it doesn't cross a line after which it all turns into "Look, we're all close and stuff! Look at all this subtext! Please write doujinshi about us!"
But it all comes down to personal preferences, I suppose...

I disagree. Remember the huge popularity of Mulder/Scully back when they were supposed to have nothing but platonic feelings for each other? That was all because of the subtext, and fans lapped it up with glee.

I don't see why subtext between male characters should always be seen as "pandering". Maybe it was a couple that the creator wanted, but wasn't allowed, to make canon? Maybe they intended it to become canon eventually?

Of course, sometimes the subtext is simple pandering. Gundam SEED had subtext for everything, but that only made me feel as if they were pandering to everybody - including the het fans.

101 Do it anyway. Even if you're not "accurate," people will still be able to tell which character you're cosplaying. It's really the fault of the anime industry for not creating more ethnic characters. There are a few good characters with darker skin tones that I wouldn't mind seeing cosplayed, though.

124 I think yaoi is too formulaic. Though I've been known to slash characters from time to time; I've never really been drawn to a yaoi anime. (Unless CLAMP works count...)

141 I tend to agree but I've seen a few funny ones. And there's always that website (can't find the URL) of PA strips that an English teacher in Japan used in her class -- she whited the bubbles out and had the students rewrite the comics. It was fucking hilarious.
