126.Eeehehehe! I don't quite know why,but this secret definitely put a big smile on my face x]

(You're not the only guy don't worry xD)

137. Dude, you just made my secret! I was just talking about this with my boyfriend a few days back! I do think he's a bit bigger and beefier than comicbook!gambit but he would've made an awesome movie!gambit.

I don't know anything about the guy they cast so I'm not judging him either, mind.

[identity profile] thelavalampgirl.livejournal.com 2009-02-01 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched Jude for much the same reason. Then came the bit with the pig...*shudder*

For some reason, it didn't shock me in the book. Weird.

So anyway, I went to see it cos he was in it too, you're not alone. ;-)

109. Many people would, yes. There are people who just mock those of religion in general, and Christians have this stereotype of being annoying and in-your-face. I can think of non-religious people who would say that. I can also think of Jews and Christians who would say that of Muslims, and Christians and Muslims that would say that of Jews.

That of course doesn't make it RIGHT. Oh, God. No, I'm not suggesting that. I'm just saying the stupidity and the hate goes all ways.

131. His role in my favorite TV shows made me adore him, personally, but the attitude thing? Oh dear Lord. I couldn't agree with you more.

best movie he's done. I never got his appeal from er (and I love er). It wasn't until Three Kings and O Brother I realised this guy isn't all about the looks.

I say the same thing about Christians, Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, Hare Krishna's, Baha'i, (religious) Jews, and [insert religious group here]. I think all religions are equally absurd, and I lose respect for anyone who can believe that strongly in anything without quantifiable evidence. (Note: I don't HATE people who adhere to religious teachings, I just think they're very, very silly.) I find the notion that we're the reincarnations of aliens no more or less preposterous than the notions that the Earth is only a few thousand years old, that homosexuality is a sin against nature punishable by death, that mummifying a dead body ensures the continuation of the soul, or that somebody will go to 'hell' because a vindictive deity thought their choice of religion was incorrect.

143

Pretend? Now I know you're just a troll. But, just in case you aren't: There's nothing 'enlightened' about not being a racist. It's called SCIENCE, you idiot. The real kind, not that bullshit pseudo-science you racists use to justify your idiocy to yourselves. Do I have some racist thoughts from time to time? Fuck yeah. Anybody who says that they don't are probably lying. But I know how irrational and IDIOTIC those thoughts are, and dismiss them accordingly. Go back to Stormfront, fucker. You'll be happier there with your delusional brethren. Although I'm willing to bet most of them think that Doctor Who is part of the Zionist conspiracy to control the world through the media or something.

129. The only stupid thing is that Yale wouldn't give a fuck about her 'detention,' not when she's the daughter of a wealthy alum that can literally donate a building.

103)Agreed. I just saw the Avatar and the Fire Lord and...wow. Why no love for them? Their friendship/betrayal of each other/etc. was epic.

109) No, because those are actual religions. Scientology is a money based cult created by a crazy ex-sci fi writer who took his work a little too seriously.

111) I admire their honesty and ability to ignore society while following their hobbies (as well as their disposable incomes), but I can't admire them personally. To be honest, I think the term has been watered down over time to mean something that's not as...socially maladjusted, misogynistic, and creepy.

158) This is the song that never ends. Yes, it goes on and on my friends, some people started singing it not knowing what it was and they'll continue singing it forever just because... [/repeat ad nauseum]

Hi are you me?

I just made this my new desktop background so it can provide more inspiration. I wake up every morning exhausted, and I just think... "What would Rahm Emanuel do?" I'll tell you what, he wouldn't lay there in bed, he'd get up and go fucking mail dead fish to people.

(And on an incredibly superficial note, hot damn, would I ever love to work for that man...)

141. Me too! Half of my friends I gained through saying something nerdy, and it helps me connect. (I think it also helps that I take a program which attracts a lot of comic fans). The only way to get me talking is by mentioning one of my fandoms. I suck at small talk.
147. Now I want him to adopt me too.
152. I had to wear a uniform in High School. Anime had the opposite effect on me. I started wearing the skirt longer than I should have in order to prevent wind and people staring.
171. Because Stan Lee is awesome?

143. I'm a mixed race woman and I honestly am glad they picked another white male (although not the one who I would have picked for the role). While I would love to see a time lady (a female Master would be win), or someone of another ethnic background in the role of a time lord play a major part in the show, to me, the Doctor IS the Doctor and he shouldn't be changed.

(Anonymous) 2009-02-02 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
143. But why can the Master change gender, and not the Doctor? The argument I've heard for the Doctor being female is that we've never seen a Time Lord change gender. I'm not saying you're being sexist--just curious.

As for race, well, it seems like it shouldn't be any more important than his hair color or eye color changing (and wasn't Eight the first Doctor without blue eyes?).

109. I actually found out that the guy who played Hyde in That's 70's Show is a Scientologist a while back, and I still don't look at him any differently than I did before.

127. GOD YES. I mean...
Well, it was the only show that felt comfortable enough to talk about sex and boners, WITHOUT ACTUALLY SAYING THE WORDS.

137. Saaaaaaaaawyer... >3

157. AHH, ME TOO. I'd buy the merch with his face on it. ><

163. I like all the relationships in the show. I seriously ship everything--I can't ship one more than the other.

n!s 6. And Edward's character was badly written, but pretty much yeah...
But I'm probably the only one who agrees in the world, so ignore me. =P
ext_1338385: (Default)

n!s 6... continued...

[identity profile] notoriousreign.livejournal.com 2009-02-01 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No wait... Edward is intended to be considered an idealistic creeper, while Whedon wasn't actually going with that with Angel.

Reading other posts, I'm gonna have to change my agreement. XP Sorry.

oh and N!S 6

[identity profile] watchsnowfall.livejournal.com 2009-02-01 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I disagree! Angel did all those evil things and THEN got his soul back. Edward is all morally uptight end emo without actually doing anything evil. He hates his urges, but he's never done anything like Angelus did. And Angel's been to Hell. And like...he's protective of Buffy but as far as I can remember he didn't like...ALWAYS stay in her room and watch her sleep.

Angel is like the adult Edward, more...I don't know, better fleshed out in terms of character? Also less of a pansy. They're relationship is way better because Buffy is his equal - and mortal to boot. She doesn't need like mary sue transformation 'cause she's already fucking awesome.

107, 109, 149, 150, 157

[identity profile] jimmyrabbitte.livejournal.com 2009-02-01 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
107. So you're using that "So bring your favorite lady/ Or at least your favorite lay" couplet in First of May to say he's a misogynist? Lyrics and themes in the work do not dictate the personality of the artist. If that was true, Stephen King would be a serial murderer.

109. On that same tack, religion does not dictate personality. The few times I've been in the company of Jason Lee he was a gracious, fun, and down-to-earth dude. (And thank you for the bonus Fred Rogers! He was an amazing guy as well.)

149. Not only hot, but also a gigantic brain. And he seems like the kind of guy you'd love to knock around with and join in his poker game.

150. Scream 2! Possibly the most excited I've ever been to see a movie in the theater. Pissed me right off when they both died before the hour mark hit.

157. So would you say that, um, you want it all?

Re: 107 (OP)

(Anonymous) 2009-02-01 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
1st of May is just one of many - how about The Town Crotch? If it were just one song I wouldn't necessarily think/assume he himself was sexist, but it's a theme I hear over and over in his lyrics - women are stupid ("The Future Soon", "Skullcrusher Mtn"), the narrator wants them even though he's so much smarter than they are ("Skullcrusher Mtn"), he only wants a rich chick - specifically for her money ("Til The Money Comes" and "Millionaire Girlfriend") - or as a generic "someone" to save him from a miserable existence ("You Could Be Her"). How about Overhead? "Once in a while, I go out of my way/To kill you, a little".

I read and like Stephen King and I think the difference there is that even though he does write about women in situations where they're being stalked etc, the women themselves have agency and strength and they end up winning. The most recent example of this I read was "The Gingerbread Girl". So what you take away from the text is not a put-down, unlike with JoCo.

109) Same here. Although, in the case of actors and musicians, I prefer not to know too much about their personal life anyways; I'm more interested in their work.

114) xD So do I. The novels are really fun to read, more so if you enjoy the occasional breaking of fourth walls.

115) "wtf who gets overly-happy about research of all things?"
I like PWP as much as the next person, but a Hetalia fic someone took the time to do research on before writing is even more enjoyable. If I'm not mistaken, most of the historical fanfiction is on the main comm.

158) That's alright, actually. Sometimes I don't quite understand part of the fandom's inability to understand why Hetalia can still offend. I'm not offended (I love it, actually), but I can see why it would be rude to someone else. Even the Korean protesters who did not enjoy the portrayal of their country had a very valid argument (even if the "evidence" used happened to include fanworks).

Besides, it's fairly stupid to use tolerance of a manga as a means of "judging" another's merit.
(is the picture relevant? if so, "useless" is a very harsh trait to cast on it.)

159) Unaware of what the Mario fandom is like, but I enjoy this pairing for the fluff/hilarity/crack. It's been a long time since I even looked at any Nintendo-based fanfiction though, so the only fic that can come to mind is this (and it's really weird):
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2230246/1/Bowser_the_Bishonen

I'd be pleasantly surprised to find well-written fic of them though :)

Direct from IvyGate (http://www.ivygateblog.com/) comes...

How To Get Into An Ivy League School: A Step-by-Step Guide Featuring Testimony From a Real, Live Silver-Spoon Legacy and a Racial Minority! (http://www.ivygateblog.com/2009/01/how-to-get-into-an-ivy-league-school-a-step-by-step-guide-featuring-testimony-from-a-real-live-silver-spoon-legacy-and-a-racial-minority/)

1. Have perfect SAT scores, an off-the-chart GPA, amazing extracurriculars, leadership positions in everything, and the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Duh. This one is a given, a prereq, if you will.

2. Be from an insanely wealthy and/or well-connected family, preferably one with an Ivy League legacy. Apply early.

3. Exploit your minority status, hide your white background, avoid being Asian.

4. Know that your alumni interview is meaningless.

5. Pimp your athletic skills, especially in sports that barely exist outside of upper education (crew, we're looking at you). Apply early.

6. The Un-Legacy: First-generation college students as trendy new minority?

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT.

[identity profile] etherealtsuki.livejournal.com 2009-02-01 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
109. You know, IAWTS. Although I think Scientology is out there, I can lose respect for someone over that unless they're being a tool about it... like I do with people within my own religion.

111. Umm... I think I only envy them for the car thing.

112. Lol'd at facebook being more mature.

115. You know, we have more fic like that on the main comm... and yeah, the kink meme fails at being one which gives it freedom to write stuff like that.

119. I love it so much. It's so cute and funny. I wish it got more scanlations...

122. He may be a bit overrated but at least he's trying to do something different and I have to give him props for that.

126. Joker got that charm. And I lol'd hard at the "LOL fuck off watermark" remark really hard for some odd reason.

129. :/ Even though I think her social standing might get her into Yale, Yale is a competitive school with like 15% acceptance rate that even being in the valedictorian of your class doesn't guarantee a spot.

133. You have an interesting little brother, seriously.

143. ಠ_ಠ Obvious troll is obvious.

152. I wish my uniform weren't so bland for that. :/ went to a Baptist School for elementary and junior high, and a Catholic high school for four and I had pretty bland uniforms. Although

153. I wish you didn't dismiss sport manga like that. Air Gear is a sport mango, yeah, but it becomes pretty complicated and out here and there's loads and loads of fanservice, but the characters are lovable. Oh well.

164. Oh, you can put that on your resume, Case!

170. The secret combined with the carrot pic really fascinates me. Also, lol Case.

172. Suffers from being buried by more popular Jump titles, especially sport titles like Hikaru no Go (yes, Go is a sport somewhat), Prince of Tennis and Eyeshield 21. It doesn't help it was a finished series before it hit the Western fandom for a couple of years meaning the Japanese fandom was dead. Plus the anime didn't spawn much heat for a thriving fandom. Hell, I wish there was a fandom here too. I was happy enough to find fics on FF.net.

173. I never get the hate for Relena after she changed. And the hatred was everywhere in the fandom, not just the BL part. Heck, all of my friends who watched Wing hated her. :/

Not!Secret #2. I'm going to die from shock. ;_; I got so sick of that picture....
