As an artist who does not have epically amazing art, especially compared to the other artists in the fandom communities I'm in, I say I suck, because it saves my ass from getting made fun of behind my back.

You've never gotten comments like "Stupid western art should die" and "Americans shouldn't draw manga" and shit like that, so just shut the fuck up.

My pathetic defense for saying "SORRY IT LOOKS RUSHED, BUT I HOPE YOU FIND IT AS FUN TO LOOK AT AS I DID DRAWING IT" or some comment like that when I post my art.

Yes, this. I wonder if the OP is a fanartist? Because I think this is something other artists understand, but non-artists can't. There is so much art elitism in fandom and people very much DO look down on and comment nastily (though usually in their own LJs) about artwork they think isn't up to their standards. By putting your artwork out there with disclaimers like, 'I know I eff'd up the hair' or 'I know the proportions are off', the elitists know to just scroll on by while those who are less picky may still want to take a look.

I guess the appeal of m/m is the equality. I like the pairings that come from relationships that aren't necessarily romantic - the best friend, the rival, the respected colleague. With a woman and a man, romance is expected or at least a possibility, and with it the male and female roles. Of course you can actively choose to step out of those roles, but it takes work. All in all I feel like two men, or two male characters (because this is fiction we're talking about after all!) have a more interesting starting point (to me, that is.)

Of course, you absolutely can have a male/female relationship that is like that, but I'm very pessimistic about finding that.

Also, because I'm totally girly. XD

Now, I do really enjoy a lot of US comedy, and the British can knock out the crappy, contrived sitcoms as well as any US networks, believe me.

However, you just listed pretty much all of my favourite comedy shows of recent-ish years (barring Father Ted and Big Train, which if you haven't seen I reckon you'd enjoy from that list) and therefore I adore you. Maybe try to get your existing friends to watch a bit of Spaced or Black Books to ease them in - I'm sure they'll thank you!

I honestly don't get how you can say that the characters are badly stereotyped. Did you just start on Series 03? Because for sure in series one if anything there is a breakdown of stereotyping imo... minus like Abigal... Series 03 is starting to break it down too, but progressively.

I love those books! Ironically, I can't stand anything outside of the that universe that Anne Bishop has ever written, but I love the Black Jewels books.

119. Fishing for compliments? Not likely. Some people just genuinely don't like their own art, no matter how much they improve. Especially those that are in a fandom where the fanartists are brilliant, sometimes the artist in question feels that their art doesn't compare/compete and therefore not worth trying.

Many artists are in fact, self-conscious about this.

So please, don't paint all "I hate my art BAWWWWWWW!" with a broad "Fishing for Compliments" Whore paint roller.
