103. This.

114. I have felt this way now and then too.

126. XD I really don’t think either of them feel that way… not that I can’t see why many other people do.

Play 'em in easy mode. That's what I did.

101. Dory is one of the few animated female characters I like. She's a fish but still. *shrug*

103. I haven't actually come across this all that much. I think it must linger in more immature parts of fandom along with ship wars. I've managed to avoid it somehow.

Which is not to say it's not there. I'm certain it is. But if it pains you, there are ways to block it.

I'm glad you're a feminist. I'm glad you're fighting for women. I'm fighting too. But you can't fight for someone then expect them to repay you by meeting your standards. It's saddening that this happens, depressing, rage-inducing. It really is. Still, you work for a cause because you believe, not because you want people to be a certain way.

We fight so women have the freedom to escape foolish stereotypes, the freedom to embrace one another. Whether they do it or not is entirely up to them.

So, we'll have our Gloria Steinems and our Paris Hiltons. That's life. Just keep on truckin, and try not to let it get you down.

These silly girls with no female friends and no female characters to enjoy are really missing out. I'm hoping they'll become a bit more mature someday and realize that. :)

That's a really, really great way of putting this. Thanks. :)

(Comment reminds me of some Democratic feminists last year who went out of their way to defend Sarah Palin against sexism: not because they agreed with her, but because that's what you do as a feminist. It was good to see.)

158: Me neither. :( But then, I am a fan, so it's harder for me to get.

160: Aww, that's sweet!

130: WHY HELLO THERE ANON!!!!! Thank you so very much for not only encouraging me to finish my fic but also for giving me the plot bunny for a new one! ILU!!!

155: Who wouldn't want a friend like that, seriously?! I think we'd all love to have a friendship that solid.

166: WOOT another Shadow fan! It's such a cheesy film, but my god I LOVE IT!!! A sequel would have been awesome.

OP 130

You have no idea how devilishly glad this makes me. I was hoping the secret would inspire some whumpy writers.

103

(Anonymous) 2009-02-26 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Word to all of this. Also, in my experience, most of the time a woman says "I prefer the company of men, I have no female friends", she means is, "I want to be the only woman in the men's club." I think it's also a large reason why women become fag hags. Having male attention on you and being treated like "one of the guys" subconsciously gives women the feeling of having male privilege.

138. I have always thought that Spot was hot... I'll even admit to writing mary sue self-insert fics about it.

161. I've always wanted him to play the next Winchester (before we ever knew there was one)... but not because of wank, but because I think it would be epic. I am not ashamed to admit this.

Not a reply to the secret exactly (which expresses an opinion too unexplained for me to necessarily agree or disagree with), but the lack of love/acknowledgment for Roz and Boo from Monsters, Inc., Sally from Cars, and Dot and Atta from A Bug's Life here is making me sad. :(

YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

(OK, I was a kid when Cosmos first aired - I think he singlehandedly triggered my puberty.)

120 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-26 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Huzzah! I'm glad to know I'm not alone.

I think he singlehandedly triggered my puberty.
Wow, what a way to hit puberty! I wish I could say I discovered him that early, but alas, I don't actually remember Cosmos being on when I was a kid, not even re-airs! :\

[identity profile] simmy549.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
106: I never had a problem with Ginny. also that's a cool picture. I totally shipped H/G but not nearly as much as I shipped H/R. WHOO
116: I don't ship them? But they were pretty awesome
131: hahahah oh dear.
136: that is KIND OF AWESOME
160: Hahahah that is seriously kind of great.
166: holy crap is that actually Alec Baldwin? woah?!?!
167: is that that dude? Uh what's his name... Demetri Martin?

135 - ;_; Oh Wasp... <33 I join you in the hoping, OP!

132. Me tooooo. It's adorable.

[identity profile] joyciel.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
112) I loved his books so much omg, I never read so much than in that period where I discovered his books
158) I will say something about the secret itself but my god woman, black text do NOT stand out with a dark background!
163) Me too, David Tennant seems to like shagging his co-workers...
165) What? Why? I find Ichigo so much less annoying than Naruto

165 OP

(Anonymous) 2009-02-26 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess we are all different, but the blunt emptiness, flatness of the character Ichigo is what I hate so freaking much. I think Naruto has a lot more levels to his characters, he is constantly developing, while Ichigo has been acting the same way in the last 200 chapters, repeating the same lame things, fighting the same lame fights. I see him as a waste of ink.

103 - most people who tend to write the ZOMG KILL THE WIMMENS fic are, sadly, the younger writers (or have issues). Women are by nature competitive (as are men). We're also being told to compete against each other in a dozen different ways. Add the fictional ability to do whatever the hell you want, and it becomes a massive blowout of pent-up agression and projection.

Fictional reflects the cultural - but it also exaggerates it. It's the cause of the medium - fantastical, unbelievable situations take flight. Relationships are never casual. They never end with a handshake and walk away as they do in reality, the day to day grind and irritations tend to be swept under the carpet. Likewise the removal of the female characters "in the way" becomes excessively bombastic. It's batshit, but it happens :/

107 - so what, you have an opinion of your own on someone? QUELLE CATASTROPHE. Who needs to secret it? People have different tastes. It happens. Big woop.

Too Big 1

(Anonymous) 2009-02-26 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
*gasp* That was exactly the moment I stopped shipping Kataang! I went to a lot of art museums as a child, so I instantly recognized the Pieta when I saw that scene. I tried to like Kataang after that, but what has been seen cannot be unseen!

Re: Too Big 1

(Anonymous) 2009-02-26 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I...don't understand why. Is it because it's a religious-influenced? Or do you view it as a mother-child thing?

If it's the latter, I'm dearly sorry, but how in the world can you gloss over the Messaih-Who-Will-Save-Us-All subtext and cut straight to "THEY ARE LIKE MOTHER AND CHILD, ICKY ICKY SHIP ZUTARA IS BETTER!"

You are definitely not alone, OP. Even though I loved Goosebumps, I recognized Stine's awful writing. Pike not only had a far better grasp on writing style, but he wasn't afraid to craft real teenagers instead of cardboard cut-outs devoid of personality. (Andy from Monster Blood is one of Stine's rare developed characters, and one of my favorites.)

And I shipped Watch/Sally hardcore, too. Adam and Cindy were boring as hell.

[identity profile] math-camel.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
109 - Jim Dale is the man. I do like SF, but I first heard Dale as he read me to sleep when I was a troubled pre-teen, and that never leaves you. Also - his work on Pushing Daisies cemented him as voice over zen-jedi-master

114 - Lol, what are my thoughts on Civil War? Cluster Fail all around, but I mostly side with registration. Mostly I hate the writers and am just going to hide from it until it goes away a little more.

137/163 - I love it when secrets overlap like this. For 137, I think he's just a jerk; but then again, I'm terrible at seeing people as prejudice.

141 - In my head he runs off with the Titans after he accidentally walks in on Babs/Bruce. (In fact, in my head he's off world while Tim is with the Joker. Maybe he just didn't tell Batman?) He stays with them and tries to avoid the public eye. He an Kori eventually marry (or Roy, but he's happy dammit!) and they semi-retire to the 'Haven. (Don't judge me, it gets worse...) All he really wants is an apology from one of the B's for hurting him because he's in that angsty/victim phase we saw in the second cartoon, but he will never get it because the B's think he never wants to *ever* talk to him again. And then Tim leaves, gets normal, gets married, works with satellite dishes, whatever, leaving Bruce & Babs alone an they nearly kill each other, until she 'retires' and spends more time with the police. This leaves Bruce alone in his cave with no one willing or able to help him, until he becomes what you see in the show.

Seriously though, I would have given my kidney for some gosh-dang Nightwing in that series. (and I hate Didio too. SO MUCH right now)

I used to think that all couples on TV and in movies were really married, and that's why it was ok for them to kiss like that. I felt silly when I was learned the truth.

I enjoyed Breaking Dawn a great deal *because* it's so f'ed up; there's actual sex and violence (weird parasite baby); it's way darker which was a WIN for me

[identity profile] hikari-cyhan.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
103. I don't think you know how happy this makes me. Actually, you probably do. I prefer female characters. I take a lot of feminine pride in the weak female character who builds up her character strength to become a stronger person. I even like the weak female character, because they make our sex look that much more human. Rock on, girl power.

106. Man, I don't get the Ginny hate. So she's kind of a Sue. Big deal. She's cool. She's fiery and fiesty and a red-head, she's got a great sense of humor and she's so vivacious. What is there to hate?

158

[identity profile] resounding-echo.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't realize there was rampant Keira Knightly hate until f!s told me otherwise. I still don't understand.

As for her weight (which is not our business anyway), I always thought she seemed a naturally thin person. Go back and look at her in her younger roles--her body is as it should be. She's tall and lanky. And gorgeous.

And why is thin-hate seemingly so acceptable? It's just as bad as fat-hate. We shouldn't hate our own and each others' bodies. /soapbox

p.s. If we could extract Keira's Elizabeth and extract Colin's Mr Darcy and make them play together? NOTHING WOULD BE BETTER.

If you've only seen the horror that is most of 2nd series TW, and John's attempts to play an unplayable "relationship," I beg you to go back and watch the Doctor Who episodes where Captain Jack was first introduced. It's a whole other world, especially in terms of the writing and direction and the chemistry he has with every single person he's on screen with.

If you've only heard John's two most recent albums of poorly chosen cover versions, let me invite you to listen to John Barrowman Swings Cole Porter (http://www.sendspace.com/folder/8vlidf)

I have no answer for the "not that hot" because I find that unfathomable, except that if you see him opposite actors that he has incredible chemistry with (Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper) rather than being forced to play some of the TW rubbish, it might change your mind. Jack's first scenes with Rose are pretty incendiary.

107.I've never seen him act nor heard him sing. The only place I've seen him is an ep of America's Top Model. He kissed more than a dozen women for a scene, and I was so grossed out. It has biased me against him.

119. I thought that movie was adorable. They were cute together even as his ear and other bits were falling off. He came back from the dead for her; talk about devotion.

[identity profile] dior-chic.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
107. I don't think John Barrowman has ever been on ANTM. Maybe you are confusing him with someone else?
