101. Uberlate, but WHY is it so important for a female to have to be the lead? Are you saying that minor characters can't be cool and awesome? I personally don't see a problem with the ratios of men to women in Pixar films. The important thing is the characters themselves. It's better to have one or two women on the side who are great and interesting characters than sticking a woman in the lead but having her less developed and interesting or just adding a bunch of girls to a cast for the sake of "gender equality."

I'm not hating on the ideas of a female protagonist or having more girls, I'd love it actually, but I'm baffled wondering why people seem to think that sticking a girl in the lead is going to suddenly going to fix everything they see wrong with Pixar films.

I agree.

I think the problem is that there is a pattern of them not being leads. One can like the individual movies, but when looked at as a whole, it can get a bit depressing, no?

And why can't we have an awesome female leads, rather than just awesome female sides? They are not mutually exclusive, so that argument is completely pointless.

I say this as some one who loves pixar. I would love them even more if they got theor act together. For others, it's not an issue they can dismiss for the sake of enjoying the individual movies.

There have been a lot of non-specific secrets where the writer whines at fans who hate female characters. There's plenty of true misogynists in fandom, but the unwillingness to name the specific characters that have been targeted makes me wonder if maybe- JUST MAYBE- the writer knows damned well that their favorite girl is a bag of crap and politics have nothing to do with it.

107: I respect you for your opinion. I like the guy, but I'd never say he was the greatest actor ever. And I don't like his music either, but I'm not judging his singing ability only because I sound like a cat in a blender.

But why do you prefer her version of Pride and Prejudice? I don't dislike it because of Keira Knightley... well, okay, maybe I do, but that was because I really like Judy Dench (my favorite actress), Brenda Blethyn, and Donald Sutherland, and think they can act circles around Keira Knightley - because they're, well, them, and while Keira Knightley is okay, even decent, she is not yet on par with these three magnificent actors. Judy Dench can actually pull off the lines that the character cannot pull off in the book, making it seem like any Elizabeth oppose her is going to get wiped out on the floor. Brenda Blethyn can pull off dizzy and make it cute and forgivable. And Donald Sutherland is just Donald Sutherland, who makes the lines of Mr. Bennett acceptable. The Elizabeth would truly have to shine in this role, which Keira Knightley cannot quite pull off. Jennifer Ehle might be able to stand a chance in this same role, but Keira Knightley is not yet at the level where she can.

Now, keep in mind that the only younger actors I like are Johnny Depp, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Rosario Dawson and Rachel Weisz.

Others, however, include: Anthony Hopkins, Judy Dench, Daniel Day-Lewis, Meryl Steep, Edward Norton, Geoffrey Rush, Antonio Banderas, Hugo Weaving, Laurence Fishburne, Sigourney Weaver, Bill Nighy, Ralph Fiennes, Donald Sutherland, Juliette Binoche, and Colin Firth. These actors are truly wonderful and actually sink into their roles in such a magnificent way that you can't tell its them from movie to movie. If by the end of the movie, you're like "That was so-and-so? I had no idea!" this is the sign of a movie well-acted. Keira Knightley, as of yet, can't do that, but I'm willing to say that she does show signs of being able to in maybe ten years or so.

my biggest pet peeve was the black-haired girl in the incredibles. her superpower is to "disappear". oh and she has force field abilities, too. that's just as awesome as her brother's superfastwalkonwater superpower. NOT.

ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO

Except I thought they all had to be married IRL!
I got very confused when I watched My Girl and two children kissed on the mouth! Because the actors were too young to be married...

It makes me ridiculously happy that somebody else thought that. :)

It probably wasn't a coincidence. And it's not overreaching to think so. That's kind of standard, making references to such things.

And 109

Are you blind?! He is SMOKIN'. Yes, hot enough to not need the "g" at the end. I was doubting his acting abilities as well, until I realized the writing was just crap.
