109) YOU ARE SO RIGHT.

120) Oh, Carl Sagan! OH GOVERNMENT CENTER! *uses Ellie Arroway icon*

138) I would posit that it's actually impossible NOT to view that film through slash goggles. Once the homoerotic subtext is cleared away there is nothing left but one rooftop conversation and a burlesque number.

139) YES.

Is it sad to admit I recognized that vast expanse of brick and concrete before I recognized Sagan?

Probably. Still. Government Center. It jumped right out at me.

Well duh. Look at DW... we Americans are always creating havoc and making the worst decisions in the series.

Yeah, I agree.

106. That's some nice fanart there. And yeah, they kinda grew on me too--I liked her strength and the fact that she wasn't just Hermione 2.0, she was a developed person unto herself. And I really felt Harry's love for her and it was just...nice. (And that girl put out. How many times in DH was it like "Harry's mind strayed to lonely corners of the Hogwarts grounds where he and Ginny had spent a few blissful hours..." We get it, Harry. You got some. Mazel tov, darling.)

109. Really? I thought everyone prefered JD! I used to, but I've listened to both and I've gotta go with Stephen, sry. His voice is just...nicer, or something, and I love his Dumbledore. It's just deep and peaceful, not the kinda old-man voice that JD does. Besides, I have issues with his inflection sometimes. ...Yes, I actually think about these things.

116. Awww, that one's so sad. "We're not Bert and Ernie." YES YOU ARE!

127. He is so completely wonderful. I'm glad everyone loves him. And I love him extra because I know someone JUST like him. Really. :D

138. Newsies? HEE! Yay!

145. "Ersatz homosexual marriage" and all? (I actually shouted "YAY" when Leonard's mother said that. Out loud. And punched my fist in the air.)

148. If by pathetic you mean 'AWESOME,' then yes. \m/

158. I think part of it is that she just always seems really bitchy and annoyed by fame. Like, she has this amazing life and these roles and praise, and yet it all just seems to bug her. That's my take, anyway. ...And yet I kinda love her too. Go figure.

NS3, 158

(Anonymous) 2009-02-25 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
NS3: THANK YOU

158: I adore her eyebrows.

(Anonymous) 2009-02-25 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
154. Well. Hm...

I'm trying to think of a way you could have been more offensive with that secret, but I can't seem to come up with one. The fact that you think A: those traits and being gay are mutually exclusive and B: that a character is somehow worse just for being OMG GHEY is just...

The mind, she boggles. I can't even come up with a decent response for this.

[identity profile] ember-reignited.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't forget: it's his girlfriend's fault the relationship is falling apart, because she keeps doing things he won't let her know annoy him.

103 Sing it, sister. Fandom can radicalize you because people are so free to say such stupid shit.

109 Because Fry narrated the British audiobooks, and when you're in a British canon fandom, all things British always > anything American.

116 True story: one of the first pieces of fanfiction I ever read was about Chandler and Joey. It's at nifty (yeah, I know) and it's actually pretty adorable.

122 The bunnies are awesome because they mock with love. That's why they can boil it down so successfully. Also, I'm not sure how well any of it works if you aren't at least familiar with the movie.

158 I could give a shit about her size. I don't like her because no, I don't think she's a good actress. Sucking in your cheeks a lot is not acting.

Re: 109

(Anonymous) 2009-02-25 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
But Jim Dale is English. I mean, I realize that he narrated the American audiobooks, but that does not make him or his narration American.

155- I've been best friends with someone like Jared... or, like Jared's public persona, anyway, since I don't actually know the guy. It's exhausting, and not in the good way. I don't avoid those kinds of people now, but I make sure to keep them as "going out dancing" friends rather than "share my life" friends.

158- I think the photos people complain about are the ones where she's skeletal, not the ones where she's skinny. But I actually think she's a really good actress, she's extremely pretty, and her eating habits (or other habits) are none of my business. I would rather there wasn't the pressure on actresses to restrict their eating or amp up their exercise to extreme degrees, but there is, and me bitching about it on the internet isn't gonna change anything.

Re: 155

[identity profile] tracevincente.livejournal.com 2009-02-26 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
155. That is almost EXACTLY what I was going to say, so I'll say 'ditto' here. One of my best guy friends in high school was just like the public persona of Jared that we see. I loved him lots, but sometimes he didn't know when to shut it down and knock it off. He made me tired and quite often embarrassed me publically.

147

LMAO IS THAT YOU BB

[identity profile] allyndra.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
154. I have no clue who that is, and I don't actually care if he's gay or not. But you can't tell someone's sexuality from their hair, voice, or general level of bad-assery. Even if you magically could tell, many of us have no problem whatsoever engaging in oppositional readings of the text and interpreting characters as gay even when they weren't intended that way. Also? Maybe you should man up and let your girlfriend know you don't like that perspective on his character, instead of lying and silently fuming.

166. Me, too!

131

[identity profile] cristiline.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Whoa, is that actually the name of the song? I read a Hetalia fanfic where they were making fun of how Sweden drops all his vowels, and they mentioned this song, but I just figured it was because Sweden grunts a lot.

103

(Anonymous) 2009-02-25 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
103. Thank you. I couldn't agree more.

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
103. The old tirade of what is and isn't justified "female character hate" may be a pus-infected debate where one misaimed work means opening up boils that spill over and rupture new boils and may threaten to end up causing an avalanche of slimy, digusting bodily byproducts flinging all over the place... but I must still say: this was a worthy addition to the debate, if only because of how elegantly written it is. Kudos, to the OP.

Also, I prefer to dislike bad characters because they are written in a boring manner, rather than their fictional gender.

105. Holy crap, people outside of soap operas actually have these kind of relationships? I consider myself a more educated man today than I was yesterday.

117. Having an idol whose ideals you wish to live up to is a good thing, I think. That he isn't real and will never truly validate or return your affection may not be a good thing, but on the other hand, it's not like he's ever going to disappoint either. All the same, I hope you find someone who will be proud over your decisions someday. RL may hurt more than the fictional, but the good things it makes you feel also come across just as strong.

119. Oh my word, someone beside me saw Fido. And yes, a hundred times yes, they were adorable. Well and truly adorable, despite the potential brainnomming.

122. Where can I find these bunnies?

133. Are the vikings on drag and riding on stud ponies, or am I just reading too far into things?

135. Man oh man, do I want to see him become an important character SOMEHOW in the show, and not just a one-note Gollum-copy. Preferably a tragic sort of romance and/or kinship with Blackarachnia, but most definitely a scene where he confronts Bumblebee and Bee reacts to the fact he and almost he alone is responsible for messing up Wasp's life so badly and it forces Bee to grow. Deliver to us, TFA. See to it that you deliver.

149. Hell, I want to kick ass in a dress one day, and... it mostly stems from watching too many Looney Tunes episodes, but still, foolish as it may be I just cannot think it wouldn't be awesome too!

150. Oh, those poor, normal characters caught in an all-encompassing shitstorm like CG-world. Poor Shirley, had you only lived in a shoujo-manga you would probably still be alive today. Most likely not any less disliked since you would still be competing with all the other gals for Lelouch, but hey, at least you'd be alive.

153. Link to where I can find out what this all is, would you kindly. Also I shall now hunt down your lucky testicle. It is my and my destiny alone to possess the magical Left Luck-Leprechaun Testes, and now that you have so foolishly unveiled yourself you have no one to blame for it's inevitable loss but yourself.

160. That is adorable, in some naive and slightly, sadly innocent way.

168. It is okay. As someone who can play them and win, I nonetheless understand those who can't. They are that adept at kicking your gamer-ass.

112. No, Christopher Pike beats R. L. Stine hands down. Maybe not that series, per sey, but Pike is more for tweens and Stine is more for kids. I guess everyone just burns out on Stine before they're old enough for Pike. Well, except me as a tween.

But yes. He beats him in every way. Stine ends almost ALL the Goosebumps books the same way. It fucking annoys me.

114. Incoming Civil War wank, duck and cover!

117. Captain America is one of those people who can be cheesy and utterly over the top and STILL be someone worthy of respect and admiration. It's just how he works and I think he's great for it.

135. I can't really see him going back to normal, whatever they did to him permanently fucked him up, but I do want to see him being happy. I also want to see him tear that little yellow jerk to pieces.

158. I just like her in general. She does a good action girl.

166. YES YES SOMEONE OTHER THAN ME LIKED THAT MOVIE YES. *ahem* Oh, and also I agree. However, if you consider fanfic sequels the next best thing, this person (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/17483/) has some that are absolutely amazing.

How does Pixar write female characters that's bad? Just not having a female lead doesn't diminish the female characters in the rest of the cast.

Besides, Jesse=win and love.

(Anonymous) 2009-02-25 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
103 is one of the dumbest things I have read, ever. It's saying it's not okay for women to be antagonistic?! Well, OP, I'm afraid evolution has already decided this is how it is. Women don't adore each other, any more than men do, when they come into direct competition and this is nature not someone deciding to 'act cool'.

Re: 103

[identity profile] scarlet-carsons.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought it was saying that it's disconcerting to see female fans hate on female characters because they 'don't like girls', not because those female characters are badly written.

135

[identity profile] georg-vanlunden.livejournal.com 2009-02-25 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh goodness, someone else who ships it. I... kind of see it in a somewhat tragic "We're both cyborg-freaks so there's really no one else for us but us, but we can take what what we've been given and still try and make the best of it"-way.

Also yes, I want to see Bumblebee suffer, not necessarily in a physical way, but definitely in a mental (processorly?) way. See him really, truly understand that his actions (even though it was not his actions alone since "Longarm" fanned the flames) brought great suffering to someone who didn't deserve it.

I honestly kind of want him to agonize long and hard and try to escape the responsibility at first though. Bee's been consciously written as a jerk before, and I don't want him to lose it all and go into tortured atoner-mode right off the bat.
